Many people feel that a house only becomes a home when a cat lives there. Here are some benefits to cat ownership which may surprise you.

Dogs or cats?

Although dogs are considered to be "man's best friends," we can’t deny that cats have their own appeal, and are many people’s favorite pet. All it takes is a few minutes on social media to see several memes featuring these cozy animals.

For many people, cats are mysterious beings, because they don’t show any expression or affection for their owners. But cat owners know that these animals are affectionate and actually very attached to their owners.

There are also several scientifically proven benefits to having cats as pets, and they go much farther than just emotional support. Here are some of these benefits:

Less stress

A cat’s purring can relieve stress. When they purr, they create vibrations that are considered to be therapeutic. Studies have associated hearing purring sounds with reduced stress, decreased dyspnea symptoms, and even stronger bones. Just petting a cat can bring us great health advantages, because it reduces our anxiety and nervousness.

Healthier heart

Interacting with a cat (or dog) can actually lower our blood pressure. A recent study showed that cat owners are 40 percent less likely to have a heart attack.

Pest free home

Although they sleep a lot, cats have their own habits and schedules. One of these habits is hunting. If you have a cat at home, you will hardly have rats, cockroaches, or other pests.

Awesome company

For anyone who lives alone or spends a good deal of time alone at home, kittens can be great company. They’re quiet, independent, very affectionate, and hygienic!
