Food inflation hitting Canadians hard this Thanksgiving
A shortage of fresh turkeys is expected this year as Thanksgiving approaches and that could have a major impact on households in western Canada, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have a ripple effect in the east.
Thanksgiving classics cost noticeably more this year from pumpkin pie to potatoes and cranberries.
Nearly a quarter of Canadians are making changes because of higher food prices.
Anne Gaviola takes a look at why food inflation is rising so quickly.

Indigenous Food & Culture at Feast Café Bistro | Explore Canada
Christa Guenther is a self-taught chef and owner of Feast Café Bistro in Winnipeg where she’s championing Indigenous cuisine and opening the cuisine gateways for community cooking.
In Winnipeg’s West End, you’ll discover a microcosm of modern Indigenous culture and cuisine that’s made up of more than just fresh, local produce and modern twists on traditional recipes. The art on the walls, the stack of fresh-baked bannock for pick up and the smiling staff will make you feel right at home.
Christa Guenther originally had no intention of becoming a restaurateur. Before opening Feast Café Bistro, Guenther noticed that there was a lack of representation of Indigenous chefs and Indigenous food in Winnipeg and across Canada. As a result, she felt a responsibility to open her restaurant to share the foods and culture of her Indigenous roots. At Feast Café Bistro, Guenther shares her homemade recipes created with Indigenous foods, with the community. Guenther has also made a point of hiring members of her fellow Indigenous community to teach them how to cook and learn to love themselves and body, mind and spirit, through food.
To Guenther, food is a celebration of wholeness, family, ceremony, and tradition. Creating food for others is a truly a way to connect to culture.
