Translucent porcelain sculpted vessel.
I created this vase from slabs. It is fairly large 13x11x5.5 and one of my personal favorites.
Once the basic form was made, I altered and carved the clay walls.

Finishing porcelain proffesionally
Fine details need special attention to make a pottery piece successful. In this video I show a group of potters in Switzerland how I look at nature to form a good lip for pouring.
This porcelain bowl turned out to be a sculpted bowl, but I used the form to explain how to make a spout on a jug. I always teach with a broader picture in mind. The human brain can make the association. Just give them the info and they will process it themselves.
I also teach online. Here are some of what I have to offer: https://www.teachinart.com/antoinette-badenhorst.html

Classic handle
It can be difficult to choose the right handle for a porcelain mug.
I am a huge admirer of potters making handles that look like it grows from their work, but unfortunately, I must choose between a handle that will deform the mug in the fire and a “growing” handle.
That is because the walls of my mugs are thin and translucent and it become glass-like in the fir. The weight of a thick handle will not only deform the wall, but I’ve seen walls tearing under the weight of handles.
So.... I stick to a simple classic handle.

Translucent porcelain sculpted bowl.
Opening my kiln after firing, is both exciting and scary. So often the clay moved too much and leaves a crack. Fortunately an understanding of the porcelain diva helps to prevent most cracks. Come learn from me here: https://www.teachinart.com/antoinette-badenhorst.html

Making a porcelain mug
Porcelain clay soaks up water for a very good reason. Some potters throw fast to prevent the clay from getting so soft.
I have a very different idea. Throw slower, throw meticulously, use the drunken diva to your advantage.
Once you understand the characteristics of porcelain, it becomes clay in your hands and you are in control.
Come learn from me in a hands-on workshop in San Miguel, Mexico with @joe.molinaro as your host. Sign up with your deposti here: http://www.sanmigueldeallendeceramicworkshops.com/
The workshop is filling up fast…so if you are serious, hurry.

Unloading a porcelain bisque kiln.
When you spent hours and hours to throwing, trimming, altering and carving porcelain clay, the last thing you need is a firing that goes wrong.
My first experiences with porcelain were the one disaster after the other, until I learned to understand porcelain. Since then I helped many artists around the world to work successfully with porcelain. I have 2 hands-on classes for the first part of 2022; one week-long class in my studio on April 17- 23 and another in Italy @ La Meridiana, which will be a 2 week class. I also have classes a available online, for which students can sign up ANYTIME.
All my classes are intense and detailed. I teach my students everything they should know about porcelain clay, how to throw or hand build porcelain objects, professional finishing and how to design porcelain objects so that they can have the most success. The highlight is when potters learn to fire porcelain successfully. We look at glazing, faults and how to remedy them. Most of all we have FUN! This page will take you to various ways in which you can learn from me https://www.porcelainbyantoinette.com/workshops.html#/
If nothing work for you, contact my directly to see how I can help you.

Carving porcelain for translucency.
When the porcelain is at a stage where I can carve crisp lines, it is also very fragile, so I have to take the utmost care to do it carefully. It is not uncommon to break some of the clay off and either have to fix or smooth it out. Here are more links to my work in porcelain: https://www.porcelainbyantoinette.com/pottery-videos.html#/
