Right side up trimming of a porcelain bowl.
There are potters that will consider this as cheating, but I never had a pottery bowl that once it was fired, call out: I’ve been trimmed right side up! 😁😁 so, enjoy, adopt the idea and let me know if you succeeded doing this.
It allows me to make sure the walls are even, since much of my decoration comes from translucency. Translucent porcelain , do not need shadows from thick and thin walls, unless it forms part of the design. I teach these techniques in my “Understanding Porcelain” class which is available either hands- on or online. See details here: https://www.porcelainbyantoinette.com/workshops.html#/
Follow me here, or on my website to learn how I push to finish these porcelain sculpted bowls.

How to mix and preserve porcelainpaperclay
In my latest blogpost I discuss some facts and uses of porcelain paper clay. It is a very useful way to strengthen the clay while it is still raw, but what happens after the first firing, may be a different story.

Wheel thrown porcelain wall sculpture
My porcelain sculpted vessels, plates and other hand formed clay objects are often thrown on the potters wheel. From there I will alter and carve it. The purpose is to create movement, inspired by nature. The nature of circles, cycles and seasons. You can see more of my artwork and activities on my website: https://www.porcelainbyantoinette.com/about.html#/ I work from my studio in Mississippi.
