It only took me 50:minutes to set up from when I arrived until my first QSO. When I heard a CQ on ten from Namibia. I had to respond. I mere 7,462 miles away. I decided to call CQ on ten and picked up an aeronautical mobile over Raleigh. The father was the pilot and son co-pilot. Both hams. I had to ask questions. I am subject to change my POTA contacts to a QSO. In addition to the aeronautical mobile I made a few other videos for my website. Check out my website at n4mqu dot com later for the videos. After the activation I took the bike out. I am trying to learn how to ride and prove I am not getting old. I haven’t owned a bicycle since I got my drivers license and only been on a bicycle when I go visit the radio telescope facility in Green Bank WV where they only allow diesel automobiles and bicycles. I had a nice ride. Thanks for the hunters and p2p. If you ever want to activate a park around my neighborhood look me up. We are close to the South Carolina line off of US 1!

Activating Town Creek Indian Mound for Amateur Radio #5
NC K-6854 #5 Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site Total contacts 49 Mode SSB Bands 20, 10, 15, 40 IC-706MKG HF/VHF/UHF All Mode Transceiver LDG AT-200 PRO II Antenna Tuner MFJ-1984HP, ENDFED 1/2 Wave 40-10M This is a POTA friendly park. I started off hunting today and had the required number of activation in 8 minutes thanks to the multiple 2 park activators and 1 5 park activators. I also used my headphones today. That is rare for me at activations. This park has more of an opportunity for visitors to see an activator than other parks in my jurisdiction. So I displayed my POTA flag. Guess what happened a school group came by for their snack break and sat at the surrounding tables. One of the adults ask me what I was doing as she pointed to my flag. I explained it to her and gave her one of my business cards. Told her the hobby was open to people of all ages and showed her the map I had of my contacts at that point.. one of the adults said he thought I was flying a drone. Great to have DX contacts in Canada, England, Belgium, Spain, Chile, Germany, and Poland. I am also enjoying QSOs with my regular US contacts. Isn’t it fun as you start to recognize regular contacts! After the activation I had purchased lunch at my favorite BBQ food truck Max’s Millstone BBQ & Catering Thanks for the hunters and P2P.

Amateur Radio Don’t Get in a Rutt
What a morning! And at first I didn’t want to go. Everything went perfect only 4 throws using the strong arm method. IC-706MKG HF/VHF/UHF All Mode Transceiver LDG AT-200 PRO II Antenna Tuner MFJ-1984HP, ENDFED 1/2 Wave 40-10M In the videos you will hear tips on taking down your antenna and what I do to organize my gear to carry it home. Don’t worry about having everything perfect. I have grown and didn’t start out with the equipment I have now. (And I don’t have the newest equipment) Thanks to the hunters and p2p and the early shift contacts.
K-7796;Amateur Radio Activating Parks for POTA
Virginia. VA K-7796 Hickory Hollow State Natural Area Park #52 for me The travel app overshot my park turned into a public school. Luckily I caught a brown park sign out of the corner of my eye. The trees at the park seem to make up for the humidity and I was pretty comfortable. Thanks to the hunters and p2p
Activating K-2888 for amateur radio
K-2888 Cheraw State Park 28 miles 28 miles from home This made my 50th unique park activation and my 1000th p2p contact. This is my 3rd South Carolina Park. It was a nice day at the park. Thanks to all the hunters and p2p. 21 contacts 2 on 15, 1 on 17, 2 on 40 and 15 on 20. Looking at the map to extend my park activation list I’ll have to do some driving that may be possible. But I have 5 parks I can easily get to on a regular basis.
K-6848 POTA activation by n4mqu
NC K-6848 President James K. Polk State Historic Site 74 miles from home 149 activations I put it in Waze and it routed me on a toll road oh well it’s a bit far for me but glad I did it. I arrived and walked thru the museum. I mentioned that I was an amateur radio operator and he said we can operate from there but just don’t use the trees for the antenna. :( I was prepared. I had my MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna. I made 26 contacts on 40, 17, 15 and 20. Thanks to the hunters and p2p. This video contains a tribute to my friend. Honey Davis 1948 - 2023. She was interested in my amateur radio activities and even wanted to go on an activation with me but God had other plans before we got her to one of the parks.
It was a nice morning for activating a park. It wasn’t roo hot. I used MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna tried 10, 17, 15, 20, 40 but only successful on 20 and 40. Check your radio settings if you are not making contacts. I called for 10 minutes before realizing I had the split function on. I made 20 contacts. Thanks to the hunters and p2p.

It was OJ’s second activation. My 23rd for the park. OJ made the hot sun more comfortable by bringing her canopy. We really enjoyed the contact with 6 youths from the 4H camp in Pennsylvania from K3PMC and KC3EVL. I noticed some youth are shy about getting on but others are a little more engaged. Thanks for the hunters and p2p.
Activating K-3891 Parks on the air
K-3891 SC Campbells Crossroads and Angelus Tracts Wildlife Management Area As I know my shortcomings it is easy for me to get instructions wrong and get lost. This was no exception but I did find the park. The instructions say Turn left onto SC109 and proceed 0.4 miles but it left you with choices left or right without signs I chose left but I turned around checked google earth and found the facility and a church I could use as a land mark. I made 36 contacts using the MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna. I do not want to get in the habit of using just this set up but with the grey clouds and rain in the forecast I chose this today. I know I get better signals with the Endfed. Thanks for all the contacts and p2p.
Activating 3 Parks in 1 day
I picked out five new parks to activate while I was staying at my friends house in Virginia Yesterday I did accomplish activating 3 of them. K-4987 Lake Curtis State Fishing Lake 36 contacts K-3975 C.F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area 10 contacts K-0717 Fredericksburg and Spotslvania National Military Park 12 contacts I used MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna mounted on the car. It was challenge for me since I was totally unfamiliar with the area but technology was helpful but the third park the name on the sign was different from the POTA name but I was able to verify the correct park by a sign at the park. I failed to take a photo of the sign displayed at the parking area. The cool temperatures made working from the car more tolerable. I was trying for 5 but finding K-4983 Lake Orange got to be a challenge and decided to head home after not finding the park. I appreciate all the hunters and p2p and the multiple park and band hunters. W4JE, N4AWP, and N4UHH. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out The following parks will have to wait. K-4983 Lake Orange Fishing Lake K-7640 Oakley Forest Wildlife Management Area
