I was asked by El Dorado, Kansas Elementary School Art Teacher Ira Bane to conduct three workshops for his 3rd, 4th and 5th grade art classes. I applaud him for letting kids this young try oil painting, and it was my honor to do this. This video is a recap of the workshops, and an opportunity to share the thank you notes I received afterward. I've received a number of painting awards over the years, but none compare to the Thank You notes I received from these talented kids. I hope you enjoy the video!

Painting in Progress. This was commissioned by Emily for her fiancé Tyler. Tyler lost his dad a few years ago, but when he was alive his dad always went to cheer him on in his bull riding endeavors. Emily said sometimes he was the only one there for him. Emily wanted to put the two together again so Tyler's dad has his arm up in back cheering him on.

If I have room at a show, I always try to set up and paint a portrait of a "volunteer" I pull out of the crowd. This was the case at the 2023 Ben Johnson Days show in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. My model, Cody Garnett, turned out to be the owner of the Ben Johnson Museum! I look forward to this year's show!!

I did this painting specifically for a request from the Kansas Academy of Oil Painters to cover the finishing touches and decisions to make near the end of a painting, so it was mostly completed before I showed it to them. They are an incredible group of Kansas artists, and I was honored they asked me to do this.

Sharon asked me to do a painting of her grandparents' barn, a place where she had many fond memories as a child. This is a really cool structure with so much character, and listening to her describe it as it was when she was a little girl allowed me see this magnificent barn through her eyes. It also let me try to bring it back to match her memory. There are other structures around it now, and the trees have certainly changed some, but I hope I honored a beloved part of her childhood.

Earlier this year, I donated a custom Pet Portrait to help raise money for the Butler Homeless Initiative. A local couple, Joel and Kim, had the winning bid. It was a privilege to meet, and paint, their beautiful dog Snot. Snot was older and sadly passed away a few weeks after I worked with him, and before this painting was completed. Here is a video of the process of the painting.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped work on the Community Painting at my 6th Annual Holiday Art Show! I got it started, the awesome people who came to my show did all the heavy lifting, and I'll put a few finishing touches on to complete it. I'm going to frame it and at next year's show have it on display for a Silent Auction, with all proceeds raised going to Veterans Day events via Celebration of Freedom. This isn't my painting, this is our painting, so I'm hoping everyone involved will be able to sign the back for next year's show.
