iPain Webinar: Trauma-Informed Yoga and the Benefits
International Pain Foundation presents Trauma-Informed Yoga and the Benefits webinar with The Honest Yoga Owner, Nicole Byars - thehonestyoga.com
Main Talking Points of Segment:
• Understanding Trauma: Emphasize that trauma can result from various experiences such as abuse, violence, accidents, natural disasters, or any event that overwhelms a person's ability to cope.
• The Need for Trauma-Informed Yoga: Highlight the importance of trauma-informed yoga as a supportive and healing practice for those who have experienced trauma. Regular yoga classes may not suit everyone, especially those with trauma backgrounds, as they may inadvertently trigger distressing responses.
• Creating Safe Spaces: Discuss how trauma-informed yoga prioritizes creating a safe and welcoming environment for participants. This includes being mindful of language body language and creating boundaries that help individuals feel in control of their practice.
• Empowerment and Choice: Explain how trauma-informed yoga allows participants agency over their practice. Teachers may offer choices and modifications, allowing students to decide based on what feels safe and comfortable.
• Mindfulness and breath work: Talk about how trauma-informed yoga often incorporates mindfulness practices and breath work, which can be powerful tools for grounding and emotional regulation for trauma survivors.
• Body Awareness and Empathy: Explain how trauma-informed yoga encourages participants to cultivate body awareness and self-compassion. Individuals can better recognize and respond to their needs by developing a deeper understanding of their bodies.
• Building Resilience: Discuss how trauma-informed yoga can help individuals build resilience and foster a sense of empowerment as they develop coping skills and tools to manage stress and triggers.
• Research and Evidence: If available, cite relevant research and studies demonstrating the effectiveness of trauma-informed yoga in reducing trauma symptoms and improving overall well-being.

iPain's Arizona Chronic & Rare County Events 2023
Our project was to host 15 countywide events/year for two years to provide health education to underserved communities in Arizona. We offered free resources based on each community, legislative updates on health bills and laws in Arizona, and health education. Our project was a success, and we reached our goal of delivering health education to more than 1,000 people.
We completed 15 Arizona County events in 2023. We also hosted pop-up events that were not scheduled but became an opportunity as we finished our three-part tour (south, north, and central) through Arizona. The events provide Arizonans interested in pain and rare diseases with community resources, laws, and support available to Arizona residents!
The 15 planned events worked well, with 960 in-person participants (planned and pop-ups) and 257 virtual attendees over a 3 month period in 2023
These events are hosted and created by the International Pain Foundation. Our event support organizations/companies include HealtheVoices Impact Fund by Johnson & Johnson, KB Companies LLC, Recovia Arizona, Respond and Rescue LLC, AZ DHS, and Pain Matters Support Groups, with events supported and hosted by the International Pain Foundation.
