Are single stack 9mm and .380 ACP guns still relevant in the world of compact double stack guns?
I say yes… availability, price, reliability, and size of single stacks make them still viable. At close range, self defense distance, they will still stop a threat- but do your homework, try many guns, shoot them, see what feels good to you, what’s reliable, and what you can shoot accurately. A big gun is great, but if you can’t hit your target with it, it’s no hood.

I attempt the Mozambique drill for the first time
I messed up the number of shots on the Mozambique drill, but for the first time, it got me familiar with it, and I know I can do better.

Head to Head to Head Smith and Wesson SD9 2.0 vs SD9VE vs SW9VE - accuracy and reliability
Three very similar but different guns head to head to head
SD9 2.0 has the best trigger and feels like it has less recoil impulse for some Reason.
The SD9VE had some issues with light strikes either because the striker spring is getting weak or because I have a lot of rounds through this gun- it may have had some schmutz in the striker channel, it seemed to run better after I flicked the striker a few times with the slide off
The SW9VE runs was better with the new MCARBO sear spring installed
Accuracy differences between the three are now negligible in my hands

Rifle and pistol Pairings part 16 - Kel Tec Sub2000 and Glock 9mm (17/19/23 with conversion barrel)
Magazine compatability/ interchangeability, various loads, folding rifle, this would make a decent pair for SHTF, short and mid range small game hunting, and big out if you’re not expecting to take on the world.

Tonight on “This old Shotgun” with Cranky Gun Reviews, the JC Higgins model 20 12 gauge pump
Another great old department store shotgun.
This JC Higgins model 20 was made by High Standard and sold by Sears And Roebuck from 1947-1961. Mine is a 1951 year of manufacture and is the premium model.
Milled steel receiver, smooth action, 5+1 capacity of 2 3/4” shells and it’s a sweetheart

Remington model 17 is coming along- re-bluing, cleaned, oiled, and functional!
I love this gun, it’s coming along
Cleaned it, reblued the barrel, magazine tube, and receiver. Trimmed the barrel to 18.5” and it’s a great piece now. Needs a bead sight, and I’m still looking to replace the stock

Ruger Security .380 reliability testing. Ammo Inc, Silvertip, Fiocchi, New Republic, Winchester.
I had several people complaining that their Security .380 was not reliable and jammed a lot. My gun may be a sample of one, but mine is reliable. I put about another 210 rounds through mine on this trip, and other than two light loads that wouldn’t fully cycle the action, I had a good trip.

Smith and Wesson 4046 vs Smith and Wesson SD40VE vs Glock 23 - 40 S&W range day accuracy reliability
Shooting a few 40 S&W guns side by side for accuracy and reliability with Herters flat nose, Blazer Auminum Cased flat nose, and Speer Gold Dot.
The 4046 has such a long trigger, I often pull the gun down when shooting, I have to really think about squeezing the trigger to be accurate with it. The SD40VE is the lightest of the three, it has the most recoil but I am very accurate with it because it is familiar. The Glock once in a while I have trouble with the trigger reset and the sights are a bit unfamiliar to me still, but once I get it on target, I am pretty accurate with it.
Ironically, the only reliability issue I had today was 2 rounds in the Glock that failed to eject- this is a Gen 2 Glock so maybe I. Red a new extractor.
Overall a good range day, shot a lot of ammo, and got home safe and sound. I love these range days, gives me more confidence in my guns and in my ability to hit my target.
Practice is paramount.

25 ACP penetration test. If it penetrates a 2x4 will it penetrate a leather jacket?
I had people mention several times that a 25 ACP will not penetrate a leather jacket- they say it will bounce off… so I decided to shoot it through a wooden 2x4 and it did it with no problem. It may not have a lot of energy, but it most certainly will penetrate a leather jacket if it will penetrate a 2x4.
