California's dry-weather causes wildfires and spreads to homes quite often. U.S. home builders are very vulnerable to fire because they use wood materials mainly, which can cause even more damage. Nevertheless, concrete construction is expensive and difficult to use. The U.S. is large country. Mostly the distance from where concrete is produced is too far and it makes hard to transport on time and also it is quite expensive. Thus, the lack of specialized labor makes construction cost even higher than conventional development. Hence, it would be great when you can build an exterior structure of a house that's as economical as a wooden structure and doesn't burn. In that simple thought, we searched possible solution and found a product that came out to secure the need. It's called RSG-3D. (only for the purpose of the concept design) The panel is said to be 100 percent fireproof, so the effect is like concrete based on CEO said of the manufacturer. If these new materials could replace the use of concrete, we thought we could build a fire-proof house without adding too much extra cost compared to the conventional house development. Hence we made one as an sample. The house is a duplex and the total floor area is 1,870 sf (174sm). 1st floor is 1120sf (104sm) and 2nd floor is 753sf (70sm). 1st floor includes living room, kitchen, dining, 1 reading room, master bedroom, 1 ensuite with walk-in-closet and 2nd floor includes 1 living room, 1 bathroom, 2bedrooms with 1 walk-in-closet

Have you ever thought of converting your customized home into a coffeeshop (interior design) during day time? Or, your vacation home into one? Here is a reference house design project for you. It includes virtual house tour of this vacation home interior space. (btw, the images are rendered by Enscape) The location for the house is San Diego, California. It is a two story house and total area is 2,658sf (247sm) including 1st floor 165sm (1776sf) and 2nd floor, 82sm (882sf). As a vacation home, it is not much in use while the owner is away from home. So it could be rented out for a coffeeshop owner during day time, and whenever the house owner comes back for a vacation, he/she still can stay at the 2nd floor. Thus, it could be the good house to rent for parties for birthday, wedding, or other ceremonial events for local communities. The design was intended to use a full of natural ventilation as it fits best for tropical region. The hot and dry climate in San Diego would be the perfect place to have this type of house design. For the materials choices, we used concrete polished floor with natural wood finish ceiling, concrete aggregated mixture cement finish harmonized well with natural wood ceiling. For easy maintenance, outdoor wood floor was installed with ceramic tile to mimic the mood of real wood could offer. 1st floor area includes spacious outdoor garden and seating area with small Jacuzzi pool, and coffee counter bar, storage (with laundry machines), toilets for male and female. In addition, there is a small private bench seat room for guests who wants to have private conversation. The 2nd floor has one allocated seating area and the master bedroom for cozy and warm mood of interior design.

This is the design of 'Resort House' and the total area is 1940sf in California. (custom home design after Covid 19) Covid 19 is totally horrible for all of us. It is beyond stressful. Business is dying day by day. Even further, we can’t even travel to other countries as we used to do. Among all these happenings every day, the news report about the vaccine to be available was a great relief to have a hope to think that we can travel again in the near future. Thus, business might be come back to normal. While we are under this experience, it is quite basic thought that what if we don’t want to travel as much as we used to do and rather we prefer staying home. This doubt triggered to think what about we change the basis of house design into something else. Hence, we began to question if there is another way to fulfill our need in regard of house design. And what if we design a house like a resort hotel, and what if it is like camping tent? Based on these questions, we designed a house that we call ‘Resort House’. Total area of 1937sf (180sm) 904sf (84sm) at Level 1 527sf (49sm) at Level 2 505sf (47sm) at Level 3 2 bedrooms & 2 full bathrooms Living room, Dining room and Kitchen And Swimming pool and barbeque deck. A model is to create a place to exercise Yoga in a forest to show process of making curved wood fins by Sketchup, Rhino (tutorial). The design of wooden nest is to offer learning of commands in Rhino and Sketchup Plugins “Cleanup” & “Weld” This video is made for intermediate level or advanced beginning level for architecture and interior designers or students who are in need of learning Sketchup & Rhino. Rhino & Sketchup tutorial is not a step by step process, but it is to show the whole process of how it does work on Sketchup with Rhino together with Enscape. In Rhino, when exporting the file, I used COLLADA file and import into Sketchup. In Sketchup up plugins I used are Cleanup and Weld. All other functions are mostly Move, Rotate, Cut and Paste. By the way, if you spend more time, you shall create better than what I have done for this quick presentation work once you have enough practice.

For this house, we designed a flat box style modern contemporary house. We named as Contemporary Courtyard House. It is 2 story house. 1st and 2nd floor are each 175sm. In total of 350sm (3,766sf), the house includes the courtyard, backyard, barbeque deck, swimming pool and 3bedrooms with 2ensuite bathroom with 1 half bathroom, kitchen and dining room, family tea seating area, roomy living room. Plus, it has small allocated exercise area and a guest toilet. This house is located in the middle of two previous houses we design previously. They are located in the same street of Los Angeles, California. It really makes this project quite fun to see how they mingle together in the same street. Apparently, they are different styles each other. Especially, this modern house is quite different from the others. The main reason is due to its structural system. Previous projects are based on wood structure, but for this house is based on reinforced concrete mixed with steel structure system. Because of that, it appears to be quite different. One of the most important features of this house is the use of the central courtyard. Since the house is in between the other two houses which occur in many cases of residential town in urban area, keeping privacy is not really easy. So the idea of the design started with building up two walls to block views facing to neighbors’ houses. Hence, we created own private space for home owner to enjoy green, open space through the courtyard. It might be a great feature to have it in this urban context. We designed 2 modern family houses located in Los Angeles, CA, as if we are a developer to sell them after completion of the project. Overall site area is around 6,000sf. Assuming this lot is allowed multi-family houses, we planned 2 identical houses to reduce the cost of design service also to ease the construction process. This house is currently foreclosure under auction. We assume to purchase it slightly higher than bidding price which is $420k. So, we assume to add 430k for the land acquisition. The area requires 36” setback for residential development. Hence, we designed building area by 1650sf which is around 27.5% of the land. Landscape area is over 15% more than what is required by local code. Hence, we planned each house gross floor area to be 2,200 sf and total gross floor area is 4400sf with 3 story, 3 bedrooms & 2.5 bathrooms. For more details, please check the video.

You shall learn how to use Sketchup and Rhino + Enscape as intermediate level or advanced beginning level for architecture and interior designers or students. When you use Loft in Rhino, it is similar to Sketchup Curviloft Plugin/Simple Loft Plugin. My PC has an unresolvable issue with Sketchup Plugin. However, it would be also better for beginners to learn Rhino as well since it is also convenient to make quick modeling. So, it is always better to know little bit of Rhino functions so that you can make models as you want to. In Rhino, the commands function I used are Loft, Sweep 2 Rails, Curve Network, Rebuild, Divide, Trim, Split, Fillet, Extractwireframe, Move, Join, etc. When exporting the file, I used it as COLLADA file and import into Sketchup. We intend iconic landmark castle that will consist of 6 different tribes who are appeared mainly in the Lord of the Ring, one of famous fantasy movies. Its story is about horse race game to be held by one of tribes, the Elf who invites 5 other tribes for the horse race game in her land. In this form, private gamble sports of horse racing will become family oriented game. From the entry of the theme park to utilization of each function on the site is related function to visitors’ benefits on uses of facilities in the theme park.

The new public cultural and art center needs modernism to correspond the pace of Shenzhen’s development, yet practices the significance of cultural inheritance. Hence, the concept of our design is to explore Chinese traditional pottery art through contemporary methods. Chinese pottery has a long history and has been world’s leading for long. This will be a suitable theme for the concept of the new public culture and art center. The process of pottery shaping is a metaphor for mixing the three different cultures together. They support each other during development and achieve high. Instead of building three separate buildings, the idea of “Three as one” is more meaningful. Our design is not solely providing Shenzhen with a cultural landmark, but together with the adventurous and prospective shape of the design, the public center will gain reputation around the world and strengthen the cultural influences. This design mainly consists of six parts, which are, from top to below, roof garden, art gallery, museum, gallery, public open space and underground parking respectively. The circulation of the public center is a simple composition of two patterns: the ramps which go through the whole gallery and museum and the vertical circulation. Visitors may choose to slowly walk along the ramp to enjoy the gallery, and then they will continue the visit to the museum by another ramp or the art gallery by stairs or elevators and eventually reach to the roof garden on the top floor; on the other hand, they can simply take the elevator and visit wherever they want. In order to increase the service quality and efficiency, there will be three sets of vertical circulation throughout the whole building. The three sets are located averagely and each set contains stair and elevator so as to make the visit more convenient.

Its climate, culture, business and life are related to this urban fabric. The design site is located right in-between the Baltic Sea and Tahititornin Park. Its characteristics to render into this city context will be very much excited. By its fine location, the distinctive seasonal change becomes much dramatic elements to bring to the site as a form of architecture. In every season, there is respective own beauty. Especially, the strongest impression tends to happen when there is a dramatic change. When the spring season is near to arrive, frozen ice on the Baltic sea begins to melt away. The Tahititornin Park will be preparing its transformation with its new clothes. The landscape covered the city will change its form. In this regard, we propose a new building on the site to continue to bring this excitement. We intend the form naturally to be generated from melting ice on the sea as structure elements. The elevation lines that has been drawn by trees on the park becomes an architectural enclosure. We imagine planting a native seed on the site. It will grow and become a fine medium to connect the sea and the park. We believe the interpretation that is made from this context shall recall nostalgia that people would see this new architecture as a nature that is not a foreign but a native one. Once it is only a seed and now it will be a grown plant as a part of the cityscape where it has always been.
