Kings Mountain State Park Camping Trip Part 1
Kings Mountain State Park Camping Trip Part 1
We finally had some downtime from planting and maintaining the yard and property to get away and do some camping. My family along with two other YouTube families that we are friends with went to Kings Mountain State Park which is in Blacksburg, SC right on the North Carolina and South Carolina State line. This is a big historical site as it was the turning point in the Revolutionary War for the Americans.
Here is the link to Kings Mountain State Park: https://southcarolinaparks.com/kings-mountain?gclid=Cj0KCQjw6cKiBhD5ARIsAKXUdyZCv15Ezx-QWNITLXr0U_ER9t9eRp6L5ETUeue_aKAgWe78rTb-cTkaAnwuEALw_wcB
We were camping with Shannon from Swamp Stalker Outdoors and Matt Dean from Dean Family Acres. Both are good friends of ours.

Did You See It? | 2nd Phase of Composting #nature #composting
This compost pile has been sitting for a few months. It is out of the heating-up phase. You can see worms, organisms, and biota. This is the 2nd phase of the compost pile, whereas the 1st phase the compost heats up and a high temperature, In this phase the compost is cool and is breaking down. You can tell that by seeing that the chunks of material is smaller than in the last video.
Some material breaks down fast, and some, such as wood chips, make take a few years. You will see that in the next phase, the curing phase.

Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup
For a full write-up and printable recipe, visit our website here: https://southernfoodjunkie.com/easy-slow-cooker-chicken-noodle-soup/
As the weather starts to cool down, and the leaves begin to change, there’s nothing quite like a warm bowl of soup to comfort and nourish your body. And what better soup to make than slow cooker chicken noodle soup?
This hearty and satisfying dish is a staple in many households, and for good reason. It’s packed with protein, veggies, and a savory broth that’s sure to warm you up from the inside out on chilly days. Plus, by using a slow cooker, you can let the flavors simmer and develop over time, resulting in a soup that’s even more flavorful and delicious. So, grab your slow cooker and get ready to cozy up with a bowl of slow cooker chicken noodle soup.
This chicken noodle soup is made with egg noodles and has healing herbs such as garlic and ginger. Fresh vegetables such as celery and carrots have lots of vitamins and nutrients to help you get over your sickness.
This egg noodle chicken noodle soup is not your grandma's chicken noodle soup but it is still outstanding. I love eating chicken noodle soup with ginger. Ginger helps soothe upset stomaches. This chicken noodle soup with garlic and ginger is the best of both worlds. Garlic has antiviral properties that help you get over the hump.

Planting Trees We Got From "Plants For Everyone" | Up Potting Blueberry & Blackberry Bushes"
Last week we told you about a plant haul we purchased from a group called "Plants for Everyone" that is in Asheville, North Carolina. Last week we picked them up and brought them home. We soaked the trees in a 5 gallon bucket of water overnight and the next afternoon, we got to planting.
We are planting 4 Carya Hardy Pecan Trees, 1 Jiro Persimmon, and 1 Pink Lady Apple Trees. The pecan are going next to our Dunstan Chestnut trees and the Persimmon and Pink Lady will go in our fruit orchard.
Along with this, we got some muscadine vines and some Blueberry bushes from "Plants for Everyone" sale as well. All of these are bareroot so it is important to get them in the ground or in a container as soon as possible for their survival.
We mix up a mixture of peat moss and potting soil for the blue berry bushes making sure to soak the peat moss ahead of time. Then we use straight potting soil for the muscadine bushes. We also pot up the bare root trees that are going to my cousin for him to plant.
Come along and join us on this journey of building out our small hobby farm. The ride is going to be fun.

Ouachita: Which A Taw or Watch Uh Taw? Answering Dean Family Acres' Challenge
In this video, we're answering the challenge from Dean Family Acres to settle the debate on the correct pronunciation of "Ouachita". We'll be discussing the history of the name. While we are at it, the correct pronunciation is actually "Waa-Shee-Tuh" or "Wash-uh-taw" which we actually butcher in the video haha.
Additionally, we'll be sharing how we went in together with other members of Homesteaders of The Southeast Facebook Group to form a "group buy" on Blackberries in order to get them at a discounted rate. The blackberries were bought from Pense Nursery in Arkansas. I have a link to their site here: https://penseberryfarm.com/collections/blackberry-plant-varieties
If you're a fan of the Ouachita Blackberry or simply interested in linguistics, this video is for you! Whether you're a seasoned gardener or new to fruit cultivation, this video will share our experiences with buying blackberries in bulk with a large group.

Pouring Pancake Batter
This short video is to show you how I like to use a pitcher or a mixing bowl with a pouring spout to pour pancake batter. This is a better method than ladling the batter out of a bowl onto a surface.
I like to use a circular motion when pouring and you can also take your whisk and smooth it out if you want perfectly round pancakes.

Making Egg Salad
Cut eggs in half. Remove the yolk and add to a large bowl.
Using a fork, break up the egg yolks
Add in mayonnaise and yellow mustard.
Mix all ingredients well until all are incorporated.
Chop up egg whites and add to the bowl.
Add salt and black pepper.

When To Spray Dormant Oil on Fruit Trees and Why
Today I am showing you the reason why I am spraying dormant oil on my fruit trees.
After last year, I realized that I couldn't just leave my fruit trees to be and be able to harvest fruit from them. One tree, in particular, was severely damaged by insects and ruined all of my fruit. Also, while pruning this year, I noticed some insect eggs on one apple tree.
This year I am trying to be more proactive in my approach so I am trying to spray my trees to protect them as much as I can while avoiding harsh chemicals.
I try to be as natural as I can, I know some don't believe in anything added in but I believe in some inputs that are needed. I will be spraying this year with dormant oil and possibly a fungicide in a few weeks. We will continue to build out our fruit tree guilds and continue to add companion plants to help deter what bugs and fungus we can. We will also add in spraying compost tea as well.
The beneficial bacteria in compost tea are supposed to benefit the trees as well as kill some funges also.
As we have stated many times, this is all trial and error for us as this is our first fruit orchard. It is all a learning process and we are sharing our experiences with you so you can learn too.

A Simple Way To Make BioChar
Today I’m showing how we make biochar. In order to make biochar, you need to first make charcoal. We simply use a fire pit to do this.
After we make charcoal, we may leave it in the fire pit for a few days to a few weeks until we have time to deal with it.
Next thing we do is break it up, then we store it in a metal bin until we are ready to use it.
When we make our compost layers ( browns and greens) each week, we add a scope of charcoal to the compost as we build it up.
At this point, it becomes biochar after it has inoculated in the compost like with beneficial microbes, bacteria, and nutrients!
Then the biochar compost can be used in the garden to benefit your plants and soil.

O 'Charley's Has A New Lunch Menu, LET'S TRY IT!!
Greetings Food Junkie Followers,
We were informed by a marketing agency for O'Charlety's that they have a new lunch menu out and were asked to check it out. I have to be honest, I hadn't eaten there in a few years and the food had good down a bit. I used to love their rolls and their potato soup.
I am not sure if the restaurant is under new management and they are trying to revamp it, but nevertheless, we decided to check them out to see what the fuss was about.
The new lunch menu has a pick 2 where you can pick half of one and half of the other combo. It comes with a drink for $9.99.
My question was this: How is the service, and how does the food taste? Come along and find out as we get food junked on some O'Charley's food.

Have you tried Jumex Peach Nectar?
If you have been around here a while, you will know that we have tried a few of the flavors that Jumex offers. We are continuing down this winding road by reviewing Jumex Peach Nectar today. My questions to you all are, have you tried Jumex Peach Nectar before?
A few of the flavors we have tried were viewer recommendations, but this one I saw, and being a peach fan, thought I give it a go on my own.
The first thing to know is that Jumex peach nectar isn't the same as peach juice. This is also not a healthy food drink, it is similar to drinking a soda. It has lots of sugar and therefore should be enjoyed on occasion.
I chose the Jumex peach nectar that is in a can. I typically enjoy sodas and drinks from a can as I feel the flavor is true. Jumex also sells its drinks in a box-type container.

Old Fashioned Persimmon Pudding
Persimmon Pudding is a traditional American dessert that is as old as America itself. This rich, decadent dessert is great to enjoy around the Fall and Winter holiday seasons. If you have not tried this Old-Fashioned Persimmon Pudding Recipe before, you are in for a real treat!
Although I am not quite sure if Persimmon Pudding originated from the South, it is often enjoyed here and folks have been making it since before the 1900s. Fall is the time that the Native American Persimmon Trees’ fruit ripens, and with that comes many persimmons desserts. Out of all the Persimmon desserts, this one may be my favorite.
What Is Persimmon Pudding?
Persimmon pudding is an old classic American Dessert. It combines the fresh pulp from persimmons, ( You can use any type of persimmon, but I prefer to use the Wild American Persimmons) egg, milk, and flour mixture.
It has cinnamon and butter that makes a gooey delicious dessert that is truly a one-of-a-kind hit.
The texture will remind you of fudgy brownies where the edges are chewy and the inside is soft and gooey. It is lightly spiced and has hits of caramel.

The Best Holiday Snack to Make! Pretzel M&M Hugs
Hello Food Junkie Followers,
Today I am sharing with you a Christmas Dessert treat that my wife and kids make each year. The Pretzel M&M Hugs are so easy to make and they are so addictive to eat. This is a salty and sweet treat. You can make these year-round with regular Hersey Kisses Milk Chocolates and regular m&m but at Christmas time we like to use the Hersey Hugs and the Christmas colored M&M's. To me, the Christmas Pretzel M&M Hugs are the best ones to make though. I like the white chocolate in the Hersey hugs and you still have the milk chocolate in the M&M's.
