I have always had trouble getting a good and uniform finish with Cedar, so I made this simple cedar bowl to try something out. I used General Finishes Wood Bowl Finish and it worked great! It does take a bit of time to dry between coats, so it's not really for those quick turns to get quantity out. But it sure does look awesome if you have the time! I made this vase out of what I think is Black Gum and added a Mahogany top. It is kind of shaped like a Lava Lamp, hence the name. I wanted to experiment a little and test my anchor seal. I sealed up a piece of cherry that is pretty much all pith and put it in my kiln to see if it would dry out and not crack. For this project I decided to finally make something for a good friend of mine and his wife. They sent me an awesome goodie box a while back, so this was the least I could do to say thanks.
