Bathing time for a robin in a British garden
A European robin bathing during summer in an English garden. It has been an extremely hot year for the UK, compared to the usual temperatures. In our wildlife sanctuary, which is our garden in Berkshire, we make sure to leave plenty of water for our wildlife visitors to cool off and have a drink. In return we are rewarded with beautiful sightings like this one, where the red chested robin is taking a bath in a yellow dish during this year's summer.
video by Sandy Maya Matzen.
Welcome to Our Wildlife Oasis where we have put up several cameras to get footage of our daily visitors. We leave out treats and water for them. Especially on hot days the water is very much appreciated by the wonderful British wildlife that comes into our garden to visit the wildlife pit-stop, the nut-hut, the birdfeeder or the bird-bath. We are lucky to have a big garden in Berkshire in England and we get to see many birds, grey squirrels, foxes and hedgehogs. We try not to feed them too much, sometimes leaving out a few days so they do not get dependent on us, at the end of the day, these are wild creatures and their survival depends on being resourceful and we do not want to give them a false sense of secure food source. The cameras record night and day and I pick the footage and edit it for the final cut.

Grey squirrel eating peanuts at the nut-hut
We had a bug hotel which was raided by the woodpecker at some stage and so I started adding peanuts into the free room for the squirrels and birds. Here's the grey squirrel eating one nut after the other.

Sleepy malamute yawning
We are dog sitting for 2 weeks. This is a very sleepy dog yawning.
We are currently dog-sitting in Oxfordshire. Two beautiful malamutes, this is 7, one of them. The summer heat makes them very sleepy. A little morning yawn by this gorgeous malamute girl.

High speed nut depletion by squirrel
Our garden squirrels finish the peanut refill already very quickly, but I thought, let's speed it up and watch the nuts disappear.

Puffin in flight looking at the camera in Iceland
This is a cute puffin in Iceland flying by so fast so I had to slow it right down to have a good look at this beautiful bird.
Ever since I found out about this surreal bird being indeed real I wanted to know where I could see one life. I researched and found out that it is native to Iceland. I never had any intention of going to Iceland before, but since I wanted to see this bird, I traveled to this amazing and enchanting place, which I may never have visited were it not for the puffin. I instantly fell in love at first sight of them on a cliff in Iceland during their mating season where their beaks turn all colourful. They are so fast in flight and their wings flatter so hard and fast. We spent a few hours watching them fly past and it was not an easy task to capture one flying past in front of my camera, it was also very windy and required effort trying to keep the camera somewhat steady. So, not only did I capture this cute bird flying past, but it also looked in my direction as it did. I will always cherish the journey to that beautiful country. The sight of puffins was just one amazing moment to remember and I am glad I get to share it with you.

Beautiful jays in Our Wildlife Oasis - August 2020
I have been waiting for this footage for a really long time. I knew that we had a couple of jays nesting somewhere near our garden and I was hoping to see young ones soon. Finally juveniles came to visit our garden to splash about and have a bath during the hot summer days during the month of August. I remember seeing this bird for the first time a few years ago. It was flying past my window and all I remember was that flash of blue colour which is the part underneath the wings, not very noticeable at first glance. At the time I thought it was an escape pet, an exotic bird. Then I saw it a few more times and looked it up to know what bird it was and came to learn that this bird was called a jay. Nature is incredible. So, yes, I am so chuffed to have footage of the jay making use of our birdbath facilities.

Lil-fox is back for another night visit at Our Wildlife Oasis
Lil-fox is one of our regular visitors ever since being a little cub. Still reacting to the shutter and light of the camera it sometimes gets cautious and or jumps back a bit. It is a privilege to see this one grow up from a little cub/pup. I am unsure of the gender as there were two little ones. One was a female and the other a male, I believe. But lately we only ever see one coming back. Occasionally one of the adult foxes passes by as well.

Sometimes the cameras do not pick things up that I see in the garden either.

Play-time! Cat at play
This gorgeous fluffy cat often comes to visit us for some pets. He loves to hang out in our garden and today was playtime. You can tell when he is up for some loving pets or wants to chase something. He is so playful and focuses on the object or prey once the cat instinct sets in. He is a lovely black and white, long haired male and he is one of the reasons why we are thinking of adopting two cats soon as well, should I landlady allow us to have pets :) If that is the case, be prepared for more cat videos from here, hehehe.

Fanveil turns in the garden
Sandy Maya is a dancer, performer and choreographer, based in Berkshire, England, UK. Fluttering fanveils in the heat this summer seems to be the best prop choice for dancing outdoors. Any opportunity to keep dancing and to practise move and to stay motivated and inspired during these strange corona times where social distance rules have made so many things a challenge. But regardless of the current circumstance I stay creative and use any moment I have to work on my self, my style, my flexibility and create choreographies for students, the bellyfaires and myself. But not only the dancing itself, the way I film and edit my videos evolves with every take and I love the way my channel grows with an engaging audience. I love to play with artistic add ons to enhance the viewer's experience. In this video I used the mirror effect from the Movavi video editor software. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life :) Love your body, be good to your body, move your body, dance! This is a magical world and we need to make the most of what we've got. Keep on dancing everyone! Spread the love and shine your light!

Cute squirrel at the birdfeeder at Our Wildlife Oasis - 17th July 2020
Another beautiful encounter at Our Wildlife Oasis. A grey squirrel monopolizing the birdfeeder to eat the yummy fatballs. The squirrels love the suet balls as much as the birds. I love how it tries to wrestle the metal holder trying to get the balls out of it.
This is just one of many garden visitors in our Wildlife Oasis in Berkshire, England during the summer. Grey squirrels are common in British wildlife. Whenever I fill up the food cage, it only lasts up to 3 days and gets depleted quickly by the squirrels and birds. We try not to overfeed the animals as we do not want them to become dependent on us, so in between we take breaks and not put any food out so they learn to look and forage for other food sources as well.

Lazy harbour seal swims casually backwards - 2012
This is Willie, the famous harbour seal, she is wild, but frequently visits the harbour in Hoernum on the island Sylt, in northern Germany. Here she casually turns over on to her back and out of sight. She is always ready to be fed some raw fish which tourists can purchase from a fish and chips stand at the harbour.

Here at Our Wildlife Oasis in an English garden in Berkshire, UK, we welcome our local wildlife to hang out. We frequently have our foxes visit. This time we left out apples for our visitors, I thought that the squirrels would come for them, as they often do, but tonight lil fox showed up and grabbed one and ran off with it :) Such a cute little foxy and big foxy always around to watch out for its pup.

Fox visits by day at Our Wildlife Oasis
We love have our local foxes visit Our Wildlife Oasis, which is what I call our garden in Berkshire, England, UK. They are wonderful creatures and I enjoy watching them from out window as they are on their daily patrol walk as well as foraging for food or at times simply take a nap and chill. I am happy that they feel safe in our garden.

Watch the nuts disappear as the squirrels and magpies get them one by one.
Thanks for stopping by at our magical garden in Berkshire, England.
At our Wildlife Oasis we love leaving treats out for our furry and feathery visitors. The treats don't take long to disappear. Check out how quickly the squirrels and magpies get to these whole peanuts and watch them disappear in timelapse. It brings me so much joy to have these beautiful animals in our garden.
