Ohio Special Election August 8, 2023 Explained
#Issue1 #Prolife #SaveTheRepublic #SaveOhiosConstitution #TeamWarner
Have questions about, confused or did not know there is an upcoming special election? This gives a great explanation of Issue 1 (aka Senate Joint Resolution 2 - SJR2).
Key Points:
1. Protects Ohio's Constitution from frivolous amendments; like the "right" to casino gambling, by raising the threshold to 60% in order for amendments to pass. (note: the U.S. Constitution requires two-thirds)
2. Protects Life. The pro-abortion lobby is seeking to place on the ballot in November an amendment to make abortion a constitutional right in Ohio. In addition, it interferes with parental rights for abortion and transgender related procedures and notifications. In other words, minors could get these procedures without letting their parents know.
But, by voting YES for Issue 1, even if they get the pro-abortion amendment on the ballot; they would need to get 60% of the vote to win. This would be a substantial hurdle as others states that have recently passed pro-abortion amendments have won by a margin of 51%-53%.
