A tour of Clover Hill Village in Appomattox, VA with Robin on the Road 2023
Join me, Robin on the Road, Your Concierge for all Things Travel, as I take you on another road trip to Clover Hill Village in Appomattox County, VA. Clover Hill is a living history museum operated by the Appomattox Historical Society. Beginning in 1991 volunteers began moving historical buildings from around the county in order to preserve them and set up a living history museum that covers the 1830's-1930's. The building include a reproduction of the Vermillion General Store that houses many original items from the real Vermillion General store. The poor house was moved from Poor House Farm and rebuilt on this site. The Blacksmith shop was moved and reconstructed here shows how important a smith was to an area. The Martin/Grady cabin built in the 1830's, was moved right down to the step stones and reconstructed with many of its original furnishings. The Hardy School was moved and reconstructed here and feels as though you have stepped back in time. Wesley Chapel was one of the oldest churches in the area was reconstructed here including the original pews, and organ. Plus, a recreation of Confederate Officer's winter quarters which would have been common to a tow in Appomattox during the spring of 1864. I highly recommend a visit to Clover Hill Village the next time you are in Appomattox, VA as a glimpse into history.
Clover Hill Village is located at:
5747 River Rodge Road, Appomattox, VA 24522. The hours are Friday-Sunday from April-October. The tour is self guided, but a guide is there to help answer your questions. School groups of all ages can be accommodated.
