Nozedive

I bought a carving kit from Beavercraft sometime in Dec 2023 and just got around to unboxing it. This is not a paid sponsorship. In the video, I started with the harder wood of the 2 blanks provided in the kit. After spending around an hour and a half just to whittle down the blank to the first dimensions, I decided to switch to the softer wood to finish out the carving. I stated I would reprofile the ground edge to 20. That means 20 degrees on the edge to the grind line. I have found a 25 degree edge is not quite fine enough an edge for me. As a beginner to carving will have to figure out what level of sharpness vs durability he/she is comfortable with. I haven't done that yet and did not do it on this unboxing. This is the second part of a pair that I made for my favorite Oklahomans. I hope they like them. I shipped this pair of carvings off for Christmas 2023. The material is a 1x1x6" piece of Basswood. I used one knife on this carving a Flexcut roughing knife. Measurements of note from bottom: 1/2" for feet, 1" for belly, 2"for beard, 2 1/2" on sides for shoulders, 3" for nose and ears. Measurements can be changed to however smaller or bigger your piece is. I used Doug Linker's measurements for this pair (visit his channel - Linker). I was not going to put this one up so soon after I completed the previous female gnome, but decided to put it up anyway. I don't think I will get many views, as the past carving videos, but I will continue putting things up I like and hope it brings enjoyment to at least one other. I'm certainly not in it for the money...I would be starving if I were...lol. Please enjoy all things In my Purview!

Making a caricature carving of a bear in this video. This is made in a Linker style and the measurements are from his work. This is a piece of Basswood that is 1"x1"x4". I have a lot of Basswood blanks that I am currently using. I also have some Sassafras, Cottonwood, Peach, and some Mulberry that I intend on carving on. I am going to cut some Cherry in the spring to see how that carves also. Measurements are approximate: Bottom of chin is 7/8" from the top. Ears on the top are 1/4" from back of head and a good 3/8" wide. The belly is about 2" and the feet are 1/4" from the bottom.

In this video I carve a Santa out of a piece of Basswood 1"x1"x4". I use only a OCC Tool knife (1 3/8") to make it, but use what you have available. You can use a stick, dowel, or even a piece of flat wood.

I make pear cider in this video from start to putting it down in the fermenter.

This is a panel made for my parents for their 60th anniversary.

The massive beehive (about 8 feet long) was removed to take to an apiary. I spent 2 days with Spicy Fly Apiary to remove the massive beehive located in an interior wall in my parents home. The wall was cut open and beehive was removed. The hive was then taken to their apiary to rehome there, so it was not destroyed. The audio is hard to hear because the humane vacuum that the apiary was using was on almost the entire 2 days.
