End of the Makwa Moon 2024 (Nature Scrapbook)
Hello, fellow wildlings! As the Makwa Moon (or Moon of the Bears) winds down this year, many mother bears have likely given birth. Wolves, crows and other animals have courted their lifelong mates. And, oddly, temperatures are breaking record highs while bare ground is showing where there is usually four feet of snow. From celestial happenings to tracks in the woods, this scrapbook entry covers the last week or so of the waning of the Makwa Moon here in the Upper Peninsula.

Wildling Trails: Winter Tracks & Critters
Although it's been an unusual winter here in the North Country, the critters are stirring as they do. Join me as we follow the tracks of wildlings such as turkey, fox and more. And leave your feedback, please! I'd love to learn animal tracking tips and suggestions from you.
Hope to see you at one of my other sites as well:

Witches' Butter & Spooky Trees: A Walk in a Halloween Woods
It's a delightful time of year when the winds howl in the bare limbed trees and every fungi-covered log may hide a cute little ghostie or two. What does a Halloween Woods look like in Michigan's Upper Peninsula? That's what I set out to record one spooky October eve.
A little botany, a little traditional land knowledge -- good for kids or the kid in you, I hope you'll join me in exploring spooky trees and other enchanting finds.

Drat! Where's the Nut?
Haha. And I don't mean me. ;) I hope you'll join me on my journey to find the beechnut, one of the wild edibles I've found rather elusive. Keep an eye out for the owl!
In an earlier video I posted several weeks ago, on my Patreon account (uploaded here last week), I was excited to find a beech tree near my home with actual beechnuts. They weren't ripened yet. But they've fallen from the tree now! Gathering them, however, was a great reminder that the gift is so often in the journey.
Many thanks to Hawke for filming the roads we traveled!

Thoughts on the Lovely Beech Tree
Beech are such generous trees, yet they're in trouble here in Michigan. Join me on a few minutes gallivant to see one young beech....and meet its unforeseen, and rather fearsome, guardian.

These Goldenrod Do What?
Who knew just how cool goldenrod can be! Take a break in your busy day to enjoy the beauty of bees clambering around the goldenrod. Plus I learned something astonishing about goldenrod - they're amazing!
These beautiful yellow flowers are an integral part of north country ecology here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern Wisconsin. The bumblebee, honey bee, and others sure love them. And so do I! So, too rainy for a nature walk? This just might help reconnect you with some autumn wildflowers...if only for a few minutes.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
