Consistency. When working sessions with your dog, you have to make sure you’re ending on success. People make the mistake while working their dogs through something they struggle with by either ending after one good rep or moving onto something else. You’ll know when it’s right to end that session when your dog has more clarity than when they did from the beginning and they gain confidence in doing what you’re asking of them.

When working on your dogs impulse control, the little things matter a ton. During this session, we had given a criteria of when the dog goes after a piece of food that drops from the counters, it’s not a freeby and the dog needs to understand just that. We’re all guilty of being skeptical in putting trust into others when it comes to our projects, businesses or anything that means a lot to us. For David, he struggled a bit with that but eventually realized when it was time to figure things out on his own as well as allowing his trainers the full freedom of letting go of that safety net. You find out so much about yourself as a person and your craft when you do these things on your own. #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram

Louie has training behind his back but he was still struggling a bit with having explosive outbursts when he would pass dogs. From the beginning clip to the end clips, you can see the massive strides Louie has taken in order to not only help himself with being able to go on walks, but to help his owner have confidence when taking him. Now Louie is able to pass dogs who are barking, coming at him through fences, running or walking by. From our video earlier, his owner and David discussed implementing rewards into his training. As you can see, we added treats, not as a bribe but because we got Louie past the hurdle of being able to shift his attention onto the handler rather than expoding at the barking dogs passing by. In two sessions, we learned a lot about him and his reactivity. Although we have some ways to go, his progress only goes up from here. Go Louie! #reactivity #dogreactivity #dogwalking

However, we want to do away with the trend of hating certain dog breeds like doodles. Hating doodles is just as bad as hating chihuahuas or pitbull. And while it’s important to critique breeding practices and ethics surrounding owning certain breeds, whether they be mixes, working breeds, or power breeds. At the end of the day, people get dogs because they want to love them and care for them. This trend but make it training 🥹 When Ivy came to us, she was the tiniest puppy who didnt know a thing about confidence, maybe because the world was so much bigger than her! Now, Ivy is so much puppy and is taking the world by storm with all of the skills she’s developed since starting training. Go Ivy!

Making sure you’re not using rewards as a bribe is so important when adding them into your training routines. We are big on using rewards in our training but only when expediting the positive associate with doing the right thing in situations that previously were not so positive to the dogs. This may come as a shock to many but there are options to crate training and sometimes it may come down to not crating them at all. Although we are big proponents of crating your dog, you can take precautions to eventually fade them into freedom if they are absolutely terrible in it. Some dogs just do better outside of the crate, some need time so we recommend not giving up if you’re almost there and be patient with your dog! #cratetraining #dogcrate #dogcratetraining
