Squats and Deadlifts have built me substantial amounts of muscle mass and are one of the main reasons I have been able to put muscle on naturally. My Leg Growth has come from doing heavy squats and my back growth has come from doing heavy deadlifts. In this video I discuss my opinion on what is better for muscle growth (hypertrophy)/strength between free weights and machines and how I would recommend going about setting up a lifting session. Free weights for me will always be the better choice over machines. It is where 80% of my gains came from, I believe in starting your sessions with free weights (the main bulk of work) and then finishing the session with machines. In my eyes machines should always been used as accessory movements and never as the main compound lifts unless you are on a de-load. Free Weights beat Machines everyday of the week.

Bro Split is the Best Split
Training 1 muscle per day known as the bro split is in my opinion the best split. You are able to completely focus on 1 muscle for that day and destroy it then not need to worry about it for the rest of the week. Recovery is enhanced as you are able to have a full weeks recovery before then training it again. I truly believe that if you train a muscle hard enough and with enough intensity you shouldn't be able to hit it multiple times throughout the week like you do with Push Pull Legs for example. Furthermore, you have an arm only day which allows you to focus more on bringing your arms up, a muscle many gym gym bros are lacking in. The Bro split will always be my staple split, saying that all splits work as long as you train hard enough and your nutrition is on point.

The Secret to a Big Back (Naturally)
There are 2 keys to growing a big back: back thickness and back width. Rows work thickness and pulldowns work width, make sure you do a combination of both in your workouts. The greatest and most foundational exercise for a growing a big back will always be the deadlift. The Right Way to Bulk
I've made several mistakes in my 6 years of lifting. One of them is bulking too hard and gaining too much fat on a bulk. You want to make sure you lean bulk and prioritise muscle gain and minimise fat gain. Your body can only synthesise muscle so fast, too much food eaten on a bulk will not result in more muscle gain but will result in more fat gain. The best way to go about bulking is by lean bulking and entering into a minor surplus (300/500 calorie surplus). Find out what your maintenance calories are and then add 300-500 calories, this way you will maximise lean muscle gain and only gain a tiny bit of fat when in a surplus.

Stop Cutting Start Bulking
You need to make sure you build a secure foundation when constructing building before you can start worrying about the beautiful infrastructure that comes after that. In lifting terms you need to make sure you spend several years eating in a caloric surplus gaining muscle mass and getting stronger before you can worry about cutting and trying to get shredded.
Everyone wants to be lean and shredded year round but that isn't going to give you a great physique. You need to spend years bulking first and building muscle naturally overtime before you will have enough size to reveal the art piece. Be patient and build that foundation first.
