A customer with a wood mill brings in the impeller from the extraction system with a broken blade for the third time. They had me repair other blades over the last few years. This time I get to use my new WAZER PRO waterjet in cutting the shapes of aluminum out to fabricate the replacement. The blades in the impeller are riveted in place and I follow the same practice with rivets I have in hand. Life is good! Since my upgrade to the new WAZER PRO I’m able to cut thicker materials and this project is about cutting .375” T-316 Stainless Steel, using the Cummins turbo flange I use on a regular basis when modifying or fabricating marine exhaust. Pearl’s splined shaft is underway once again Prepping the blanks to be within grinding tolerances before the heat treatment is carried out. Modify what is needed to adjust for the new gear bore on the repair we did back a year ago. I got my shit together and the mill is set up and I get the double keyways cut in both shafts. I thought I grabbed some nice close ups of the cut, being the camera was eight feet away from the mill! Life is good! Welding cast aluminum is sometimes a great challenge but if you take the time to prep it fully you can get some great results. I had to do another brazing project, this one on an antique automobile thermostat, set up in my weld positioner. I had to reclaim the face and shrink the bore in one step. Life is good! My Pipe Bender is nothing more than an attachment I built for my Hydraulic press. I found at a flee market the main frame plates and the two pivots, then I found a cylinder and whittled out the set of push dies for it, from solid aluminum 6061. Pearl’s project is getting back on the making and the first part in the head stock gear box is the second in line shaft we found to be messed up. I hand grind the radius needed on the teeth of the cutter, make a spacer to hold the cutter apart to form the teeth I’m cutting on the spine.
