Doug Talks About: A discovery in the 1970's - skin fungi and serious diseases SKIN IN THE GAME--In 1986, while living in Los Angeles, a Dallas, TX physician challenged my hypothesis that skin problems were, in fact, often caused by yeast in the gut. He was one of very few physicians on a national medical board specializing in psoriasis. He came to LA to speak with me, and later invited me to his office in a large Dallas hospital to see if my antifungal hypothesis could help some of his psoriasis patients. I came in a week per month and within 6 months, he asked me to relocate to TX with my family and work with him. What we saw was truly unbelievable and soon he believed that many cases of psoriasis were linked with gut yeast overgrowth. A newer psoriasis medication is now on the market and in some patients, it does seem to control their symptoms, but at a cost of $100,000 annually and a risk of terrible side effects, including suicide it seems to me that only doctors and patients who were unfamiliar with my work decades ago might opt for this expensive, injectable option. Doug Talks About: An unknown cause of serious fungal infections Yesterday, you learned that it is probable that infections run in pairs (co-infections); to have a bacterial and a fungal infection together is likely quite common, but a catalyst seems to be required to make a single bacterial infection become a fungal co-infection. As one paper (*) stated, “co-infections might occur in humans after they have been treated with antibiotics.” Based on this, today we will discuss a cause of fungal infections that the medical community is likely unaware of, the overuse of antibiotics.
