Today we begin a new series. Fr. Spirago wrote the classic Exhaustive Explanation of the Catechism about 150 years ago. It remains a classic that, in my opinion, is more understandable and approachable than the modern Catechism of the Catholic Church. I have found his work to be one of the most enriching books I have ever read. We are just going to take a two pages a t a time and thoroughly discuss each topic. And, of course, several other topics come up. Today, it was archeological evidence for the Bible and the Church and "predestination." Today we discuss the wars in Israel and Ukraine and the Book of Revelation. The wars are horrible, tragic and have the potential to become major, world-wide conflicts. The result could even be nuclear war. That, is terrifying. But, it is not the end of the world. Armegedon is not upon us. We are a long way from the end of "End Times" and "those who endure until the end shall be saved." Let's calm down, have faith and pray. The messages of Our Lady at Fatima should give us reassurance. Each of us must be prepared to die at any moment. But, do not be troubled by "wars and rumors of wars." Trust in the Word of God and His Church. We discuss the wars in Israel and Ukraine. Christians have a very powerful weapon to combat evil and that is the Holy Rosary. In 1571 the Ottoman Turks were defeated through the Rosary. We discuss the confusing statements about homosexual unions that Pope Francis is reported to have stated. We must remember that the Pope is only infallible on matters of morals and doctrine when issuing official statements in union with the cardinals and bishops and in accord with legitimate Catholic teaching. If the pope states something that is in violation of Catholic doctrine and the Bible, as approval of homosexuality certainly is, we are under no obligation to follow his teaching. In fact, we are obligated to oppose it. The pope has no authority to teach error.
