J's Licks and Tricks #3 - Inverted Tremolo
This idea turns a traditional guitar tremolo technique upside down. The fast repeated notes are at the bottom with chords played on top of it.
While some guitarists may find it a little harder to achieve than some of my previous licks and tricks, it is well worth the extra effort.
Very impressive sounding, can be used in multiple genres and really, really fun to play.

Licks And Tricks #2 - Echo Arpeggio
An ‘echoey’ arpeggio pattern for the right hand. It incorporates repeated notes, an alternating bass and a cross beat syncopation. As usual this isn’t hard to play but used with the right chords it can create a very evocative atmosphere.
Licks And Tricks #1
In this first video of my new 'licks and tricks' series, I offer up a cheeky triplet-ey, pull off-ey idea that, like all the ideas in this series, is easy to learn, fun to play and sounds fantastic.
I give a close up analysis of both right and left hand but more importantly and differently to similar, obviously inferior videos ;), I demonstrate how you might actually use this idea in a musical setting with an original improvisation based solely on the lick idea.
Building A Solid Musical Foundation
In this video I set out 12 steps for guitarists to build – or check to see if they have – a solid knowledge and understanding of the basics of music and of their instrument.
This is a follow up video to my succinctly titled, ‘Why is the average guitarist a worse musician than the average pianist’ video.
I’m pretty sure that most guitarists won’t be able to do all the steps I outline here. In fact they may even consider it extreme. However these are all things that every other instrumentalist can do very early on in their musical journey. Therein lies the problem…..

DANZA BRASILERA
This is my version of Jorge Morel's Danza Brasilera. I play it on a PRS electric guitar utilizing some flamenco techniques and throw in a few cheeky niblets of my own! I spent a week of workshops with Jorge Morel and shared a few drinks with him in the evenings. So I think that gives me the right to mess about with his music :)

Why are guitarists worse musicians than pianists?
Compared to pianists and many other instrumentalists (except drummers of course :)), guitarists tend to be inferior musicians lacking in many fundamental musical skills from sight reading to aural abilities to transposition and much more. Why is this?
In this video I explore this phenomenom, consider different reasons as to why it may be, offer my conclusion as to why this is the case and finally offer a solution.
