Almost all shooters – and hunters – are plenty familiar with how Old West cowboys acquired both a long gun and handgun in the same chambering. That combination was most likely a lever-action rifle and a single-action revolver. A few popular pairings would have been traditional handgun rounds like the .44/40 Winchester, .45 Colt, and .32-20 Winchester.

On Monday, Taurus made the announcement they had a new, smaller version of the well-liked TX22 rimfire semi-auto pistol ready for the market. The palm-sized TX22 Compact follows in the footsteps of the standard and competition models of the pistol with a flush-fitting 13+1 round magazine (10 rounds in restricted states) as well as an optic-ready cut that is compatible with the slimline Holosun K footprint. The sights are the same standard Glock pattern as used on the Taurus G3 and GX4 series.

We were excited to pull the trigger on the gun and tag along on a recent African Safari with Smith & Wesson’s “highest velocity production revolver” in the world.

When I first saw the Desert Eagle in the box, I finally realized how massive it is! I have fired revolvers and other big handguns, but nothing compares to the heft of this beast. This is an unusual model fitted with a stainless steel 10-inch barrel giving it a long sight radius. Sights are adjustable for windage and elevation and the barrel is slotted for scope rings. This will allow a long-eye-relief scope to be mounted for precise shooting. Despite its size, it feels good in my hands. This gun seems to want to be fired.
