US Leak Suggests Dozens of UK Special Forces Present in Ukraine
1. Leaked US military documents indicated that the UK has deployed as many as 50 special forces to Ukraine.
The documents suggest that more than half of the Western special forces personnel present in Ukraine between February and March this year may have been British, The Guardian reported.
It is unclear what activities the special forces may have been engaged in or whether the numbers of personnel have been maintained at this level.
The UK’s elite military forces, whose activities are normally shrouded in secrecy, comprise multiple units including the Special Air Service (SAS).
The UK government has not disclosed since the beginning of the war that special forces have been active in Ukraine. Prior to Russia’s military operation, in June 2021 the UK Embassy in Kyiv said its special forces had conducted training activities with Ukrainian forces.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) declined to comment on the disclosures or answer questions about UK personnel in Ukraine in recent months. However, in a tweet the department said the leak has “demonstrated a serious level of inaccuracy”.

2. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov acknowledged the possibility that leaks of classified US intelligence documents may be false and are targeted disinformation aimed at misleading Russia.
"We don’t have a position; it may perhaps be interesting for somebody to scrutinize these materials as to whether they are [genuine US] documents, or maybe they are fakes, maybe it’s deliberately targeted disinformation," he told reporters on Wednesday in reply to a question by TASS regarding Moscow’s position on the situation and the potential causes of the leak.
"Given that the US is a party to the conflict and is, essentially, waging a hybrid war against us, it’s possible that such ploys may be used in order to mislead the adversary, that is, the Russian Federation," the senior diplomat noted. "I am not asserting anything; I am simply acknowledging that various scenarios and models are not beyond the realm of possibility here," he added.
"So, probably, specialists would know better how realistic all of this may be. There have been situations previously, which we can recall, where authentic documents did end up in the public domain. This is a fact. But, the extent to which all of this brouhaha, both the publications themselves and everything else, have some kind of grounding in reality, remains an open question for me personally," Ryabkov concluded.[TASS]

Russia believes in the liberation of Odessa from Ukrainian neo-Nazis, Maria Zakharova says
Russia believes that Odessa will get rid of the oppression of Ukrainian neo-Nazis and become free. This was stated on April 12 at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
According to the diplomat, on April 10, 1944, Odessa was liberated from the Nazi invaders, but again faced with Nazism.
"Despite the terror unleashed by the Ukrainian authorities, the native Odessans never forgot who delivered them from the brown plague - they remember the heroism of their liberators - the soldiers of the Red Army," Zakharova concluded.
“We believe that Odessa will be able to get rid of the oppression of Ukrainian neo-Nazis and become free again, and, as Leonid Utyosov sang, a sunny and acacia city by the Black Sea,” Zakharova said.

Sandstorm hits Beijing and northern China
It is the eighth sandstorm to hit the Chinese capital so far this year, marking the most active spring storm season in a decade
A severe sandstorm has cloaked Beijing and China’s northeastern regions for the fourth time in a month forcing some residents to stay indoors to protect themselves from dense air pollution.
Images showed the Chinese capital engulfed in a cloud of orange haze on Monday which hung thick in the air into Tuesday, though conditions have begun to ease.
Beijing authorities told children and the elderly to stay indoors, and healthy adults were advised to refrain from outdoor activity. Residents were also reminded to keep their windows shut and wear masks and face shields.
As of Tuesday morning, Beijing’s real-time air quality index was 500, indicating severe pollution, with PM10 being the primary pollutant.
“The frequency of sandstorms this year, compared with other spring seasons, marks the highest for Beijing in the past decade,” said Ma Jun, director of the Institute for Public and Environmental Affairs, a non-profit environmental research firm.

2. Reports Of Egypts Alleged Plans To Supply 40,000 Missiles To Russia Not True.
The Washington Post's report about Egypt's alleged plans to deliver up to 40,000 missiles to Russia does not correspond to reality, Egyptian broadcaster Al-Qahera news reported, citing sources close to the matter.
The report published by The Washington Post is "absurd" and "does not correspond to reality," the broadcaster's source said, adding that Egypt pursues a balanced policy towards all countries, with peace, stability and development being its defining factors.

Eruption in Russia’s Kamchatka threatens aviation
The Shiveluch volcano in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula erupted early on Tuesday and sent up an ash plume 10 kilometers (six miles) high, posing an increased threat to air traffic, the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) said.
"On the night of April 11, the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano reached a paroxysmal stage. Due to the bad weather, video observations of the volcano are difficult; the cyclone continues to affect the situation here, it is snowing and there is a blizzard. However, calculations show that the height of the ash cloud has reached 15 kilometers," the statement said.
According to the institute, the volcano now has the highest "red" hazard designation for aviation. "Molten lava flows can travel up to 20 kilometers and block the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky-Ust-Kamchatsky highway," the institute said.
Shiveluch is one of the largest volcanoes in Kamchatka at 3,283 meters.
In the coming decades, the Kamchatka volcano Shiveluch will not erupt as violently as it did the day before. This was stated by the head of the volcano station in the village of Klyuchi Yuri Demyanchuk.
According to him, all possible next eruptions will be weak for a long time, since the main phase in this century has ended.

US spying on other countries is nothing new, Kremlin says amid document leaks
The Kremlin said on Monday that it can’t rule out, as leaks suggest, that the US was spying on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, adding that the US spying on other countries is nothing new.
The Kremlin added that there was a “general tendency” to blame Russia for things when, asked about accusations that Moscow was responsible for the major leak of US intelligence documents about a number of countries including Ukraine.
-
The United States has been spying on Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, CNN reported on Sunday, citing secret documents of the Pentagon and the US intelligence community that had been leaked on the Internet.
While a source close to Zelensky described the situation as "unsurprising," Ukrainian officials are frustrated about the leak, the TV channel said.
According to CNN, in late February, Zelensky "suggested striking Russian deployment locations" in the Rostov Region with the use of drones. Washington fears that Ukraine will use long-range missiles for strikes inside Russia, hence US reluctance to send such weapons to Kiev.
The leak which could be one of the largest in a decade may complicate US support for Kiev before a major offensive, Bloomberg reported on Monday. According to the news agency, it is highly unlikely that the documents which have been widely shared on the Internet can now be erased or hidden.

Palm Sunday is the Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels. Its name originates from the palm branches waved by the crowd to greet and honor Jesus as he entered the city. Palm Sunday marks the first day of Holy Week; in Western Christianity, this is the beginning of the last week of the solemn season of Lent, preceding Eastertide, while in Eastern Christianity, Holy Week commences after the conclusion of Great Lent.

China begins 3-day military drills around Taiwan island after president Tsai returns home
The Chinese military will conduct exercises and patrols in the sea and airspace around Taiwan starting Saturday, in accordance with the combat training plan, Shi Yi, spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), said.
The military drills will be held starting from April 8 until April 10, 2023, and will involve patrols around Taiwan and "joint sharp sword exercises" in the Taiwan Strait, as well as in the sea and airspace to the north, south and east of Taiwan, Shi Yi said in a statement on WeChat on Saturday.
The spokesperson added that the drills are "a necessary measure to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity" and a warning against provocations by pro-Taiwan separatist forces.
Taiwan's defense ministry said on Saturday that the Taiwanese military was closely following the holding of China's drills.
The defense ministry said that, in the past 24 hours, the approach of 13 aircraft and three ships of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to the island were registered by Taiwan's armed forces.
On Wednesday, Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other lawmakers in Los Angeles, California, during her transit trip to the country. In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned the contacts between US and Taiwanese officials, calling on Washington to stop upgrading relations with the island.

In Romania, Bulgaria farmers protest against the import of cheap Ukrainian grain, block borders
1. In Bucharest and many other cities in Romania, farmers staged a protest. Thus, they demanded that the authorities protect them from importing cheap grain from Ukraine.
"Stop genetically modified grain from Ukraine!", "Your calculations are our bankruptcy!" and "Corridors of Solidarity - Sources of Vulnerability!" - such inscriptions adorn the posters of the protesters.
-
2. Thousands of farmers protested across Romania on Friday over the impact of Ukrainian grain imports on prices, blocking traffic and border checkpoints with tractors and trucks and urging the European Commission to intervene.
Anger is rising among farmers in Central and Eastern Europe over a flood of cheap Ukrainian grain imports, exempt from customs fees until June 2024, which have hurt prices and sales of local producers.
Ukraine, one of the world’s largest grain exporters, had its Black Sea ports blocked following Russia’s February 2022 invasion and found alternative shipping routes through European Union states Poland and Romania, helped by “solidarity lanes” supported by the EU.
But millions of tonnes of grain – cheaper than those produced in the EU – ended up in neighboring countries, propelled by logistical bottlenecks and lesser distances.
*Polish Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk resigned from his post this week. Polish and Bulgarian farmers have also held protests.*
-
*3. Poland to temporarily halt Ukraine grain imports to mitigate impact on prices*
Imports of Ukrainian grain to Poland will be temporarily halted to mitigate impact on prices, but transit will still be allowed, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said on Friday.
Telus took office on Thursday after his predecessor resigned amid farmers’ protests over falling prices of produce.
“We agreed to limit and for now halt exports to Poland,” Telus told reporters after meeting his Ukrainian counterpart.

Collapsed historical building in the center of Istanbul turned to dust
On April 6, a five-story building collapsed in the center of Turkish Istanbul. Footage of the collapse of the building was caught on video, which was later posted by the DHA agency.
The building is located in the central area of Karakoy. It began to collapse in the early morning, and by 15.00 local time it had already completely turned into ruins.
Also, due to the threat of collapse, the streets near the building were partially blocked. According to the agency, the collapsed building was previously resettled. There were no reports of casualties in the incident.
Oktay Özel, head of the Department of Cultural Property of the Istanbul City Hall, said that the building was to be reconstructed, and a permit was issued for this back in 2019. But the owner of the building did not begin to restore it.
The dilapidated 5-floor building in the harborside district of Beyoglu stood in scaffolding when it began crumbling in the morning. It fully collapsed after police cordoned off the area and closed tram tracks running in front of it.
