German Greens party leader Annalena Baerbock, a former medal-winning trampolinist and current German Minister of Foreign Affairs, declared war on Russia at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on January 25. US and EU officials have previously distanced themselves from declarations of open war against Russia, preferring to play a proxy game in the background. “And therefore I’ve said already in the last days – yes, we have to do more to defend Ukraine. Yes, we have to do more also on tanks,” Baerbock said on Tuesday. “But the most important and the crucial part is that we do it together and that we do not do the blame game in Europe, because we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other.” Unsurprisingly, Annalena Baerbock is a 2020 graduate of the World Economic Forum Young Global Leader’s program. Four of the Oath Keepers in the United States were convicted Monday January 23, of “seditious conspiracy,” a felony with maximum prison term of 20 years, for their role in the so-called January 6th Insurrection. DARPA, America’s defence research and development agency are very busy bees, with a long list of creepy projects that are in full partnership with private corporations and the American scientific community who line up like welfare recipients to collect the taxpayer funded money. The anticipated budget for 2023 for DARPA is over $4 billion. The Economist magazine has called DARPA the agency “that shaped the modern world,” and paints a pretty picture of a humanitarian, scientific organisation. I spent a couple decades involved in Christian ministry and there were a few things that those of us who were active in the church noticed. There was a running joke that some people who go to church are SMO’s — Sunday Morning Only. They showed up every week, dressed nice, greeted people, enjoyed the service and went home. That is probably 80% of the church. There was another expression for people like this who put on a church face every week — they were “playing church.” The other 20% ran every program, showed up at every event and were in the worship team, youth groups and every Bible Study. Similarly, there are some in the Freedom Movement who are “playing freedom.” They show up at the big rallies, watch the speakers, buy a couple T-shirts and go home. Then wonder why they have a feeling of hopelessness like nothing is happening. Without a doubt, Elon is a super troll. Or at the very least, the social media team, who design his tweets to enable maximum trigger effect have done a superb job. Following a minimalist strategy, Musk tends to use as few words as possible: “The coronavirus panic is dumb,” the Tesla boss tweeted in March of 2020, at the outset of the pandemic. His classic understatement went viral, racking up more than 240,000 retweets. Musk X is a now a caricature of himself, much like Trump was for four agonising years of relentless social media mayhem. Trump’s social media manager, Dan Scavino Jr., accidentally tweeted from his own account instead of from Donald’s in October of 2017. Some people get irritated when you refer to God as a Father. They claim this is patriarchal and a cultural construct designed by misogynist imperialists to oppress women. Others are equally fussy if you address God as Mother, as in Mother Earth, Spirit Mother or even more provocative, Our Mother who art in Heaven. This could cause a revolt at the dinner table or risk excommunication, depending on where you happen to be praying. Oddly, enough, some of the same people who object to the forced use of gender pronouns in society, also get hot under the collar if God is not addressed with the proper pronouns. They claim, God is male because God created man first and then woman out of Adam’s rib. Therefore, the natural order of things is a male hierarchy, and we all just have to accept this and stop rocking the gender boat. What if the Communists, Fascists and Capitalists Got in Bed Together? Socialism has become the catch-all term for both the left and the right to park a broad set of political and economic policies in one word. For many on the libertarian right, socialism is just “communism light,” a watered down version that eventually leads to full-blown communism through greater state control, higher taxes, erosion of sovereignty and less freedom. There are some centre-leaning conservative socialists, or bourgeoisie socialists as Karl Marx pejoratively called them, who want capitalism with a social safety net — they are not diametrically opposed to socialism. For the left, socialism means democratic government, lots of cradle-to-grave programs, more unions, universal healthcare and guaranteed civil rights. The most successful socialist, or social democracies in the world are using the so-called Nordic Model, such as Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Canada. These countries, year after year, score the highest in overall quality of life rankings. They could just as easily be called conservative socialist nations because they all practice free market capitalism, albeit with a high degree of state regulation of the economy. On January 8th, 2023, an angry mob of protestors stormed the Brazilian federal buildings. Supporters of the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, alleged that the 2022 Brazilian general election suffered from widespread electoral fraud causing Bolsonaro’s defeat. Justin Trudeau was born on Christmas Day (yes, I know, Merry Christmas) in Ottawa, 1971, which makes him one of the youngest Prime Ministers in Canadian history. On April 14, 1972, Pierre and Margaret Trudeau hosted a gala at the National Arts Centre. After the show, Nixon gave a champagne toast during a buffet meal. His remarks have become known as the Nixon prophecy. “Tonight, we’ll dispense with formalities. I’d like to toast the future prime minister of Canada—to Justin Pierre Trudeau.” Pierre Trudeau responded that should his son ever assume the role, he hoped he would have “the grace and skill of the president.” Friendly relations between the two leaders were feigned however. Canadian Deputy Crime Minister Chystia Freeland will be there sniffing and twitching like she just fell off the bus on East Hastings.
