Premier Eby Wants to Seize "Unexplained Assets" to Tackle Gang Crime in British Columbia
https://www.exnews.net/post/premier-eby-wants-to-seize-unexplained-asset-s-to-tackle-gang-crime-in-british-columbia
BC's new Premier, Dave Eby, has a plan to curb violent crime in British Columbia.
It's being called the "Safer BC Community Action Plan". Eby also wants the ability to seize assets like expensive homes and cars from gang members.
The core of the Safer BC Community Action Plan is improving coordination between the justice system, non-profits, cities, provincial government, and indigenous people to create safer communities.
The Safer BC Community Action Plan has two key tracks
- ENFORCEMENT that recognizes zero tolerance for violent crime
- INTERVENTION that helps people break the cycle of life in and out of jail
The hope is this will prevent crime before it happens
The "new plan" involves setting up coordinated "response teams" to address the issue of violent offenders.
The teams will be made up of police, dedicated prosecutors, and probation officers to prevent violent crime before it happens.
When a violent crime does happen the goal is to have violent offenders remain in custody while awaiting trial, not out in the community putting people at risk.

Wind storm power outages leave hundreds of thousands from Vancouver Island to Hope without power
Wind storm power outages leave hundreds of thousands from Vancouver Island to Hope without power
A wind storm that hit British Columbia last night left more than 330,000 BC Hydro Customers without power
High winds and rain caused outages from Vancouver Island to the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver, up the Fraser Valley as far as Hope.
As of noon Saturday 100,000 remain without power.
The latest information from BC Hydro as of noon today lists these outages:
- Lower Mainland North and the Sunshine Coast: 29,000 customers without power
- Lower Mainland South: 43,000 customers without power
- Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands: 18,000 customers without power
Most of the outages are due to drought-weakened trees and branches contacting powerlines
BC Hydro says more than 100 crews are in the field repairing the damage. There is so much work to be done Hydro warns people may be without electricity well into tomorrow.
If you see a downed power line stay at least 10 meters away. A DOWNED POWER LINE is an EMERGENCY and you should CALL 911 to REPORT IT.

Birnie Dump Road and highway 97 Vernon BC
Pretty scary intersection just south of Vernon BC. Many people using the intersection are pulling trailers of garbage to the local landfill (Greater Vernon Diversion and Disposal Facility). There are a variety of large commercial vehicles that are exiting the facility as well. If any of the drivers intend on travelling north on highway 97 they must cross two lanes of southbound traffic and merge with 2 lanes of northbound traffic moving at least 90km.

There have been more than a few accidents at this location.
