The Vernon Search And Rescue Group Society (VSAR) is reminding everyone most lake ice is still not thick enough for activities like skating, Ice fishing, or walking
VSAR has provided a chart that spells out how thick lake ice should be for a variety of activities.

Ice should be at least 10cm or 4 inches thick before you walk on it. Drilling a hole in clear ice is the best way to gauge its thickness.

Canadian Tire Vernon November 29th 2022
The Vernon Canadian Tire store in the Village Green Mall on 27th has been closed due to fire since November 19th.
At first, it was hoped the damage was superficial, confined to the outside of the building, but 10 days later that doesn't appear to be the case.
The last official word was Friday:
"We’re working hard to re-open the store as soon as possible to serve the community of Vernon - We’re eager to welcome you again."
It's speculated the fire may have activated the store's sprinkler system adding water damage to the list of fire and smoke.
The company has not commented on the extent of the damage or given an official reopening date.
On Tuesday, November 29th cleanup was still underway in the outdoor garden/seasonal area where the fire burned brightest.
In the parking area outside the Canadian Tire store, a large area has been fenced off for contractor vehicles and supplies possibly an indication of the extent of the damage.
The fire is considered suspicious

Stowaway Kitten Rescue
A routine call for Vernon Firefighters turned out to be a lucky break for a tiny kitten.
Vernon, British Columbia, Canada.
Last Tuesday around 2 pm (11/27/22) while fire crews were attending a motor vehicle incident on Highway 97 near Birnie rd, they were alerted by a bystander they spotted a small black kitten in the immediate area.
Once the accident scene was secured there was an unsuccessful search for the tiny kitten.
Not too long after the crew and the fire truck returned to their hall a meowing was heard coming from the truck's engine compartment.
The tiny kitten had managed to stow away and hitch a ride to the fire hall.
In good shape other than being hungry and cold the kitten spent the night with the firefighters.
The next morning the kitten was taken to a near by veterinarian office.
The motor vehicle incident may have been bad luck for the people involved but with overnight temperatures dipping well below zero it was good luck for the tiny kitten.
