The beef between rap sensations Chris Brown and Quavo (a member of the Migos) has become a hot topic once again after the former dropped his "Weakest Link" diss track on April 20, 2024, filled with some dicy shots. Chris Brown dated American socialite/ actress Karrueche Tran from November 2010 to March 2015, including a break in the middle. During that time, the singer rekindled his relationship with pop sensation Rihanna. Quavo and Tran have since been pictured together many times over the years, with rumors the two were dating going as far back as 2017. TMZ stated in April 2017 that the pair had been on multiple dates after starting out as just friends. According to a later article from TMZ, Brown felt betrayed that Quavo had started seeing his ex-girlfriend as the pair had both a business and personal relationship. Kyle Rittenhouse has been acquitted of all charges after pleading self-defense in the deadly Kenosha, Wisconsin, shootings that became a flashpoint in the nation's debate over guns, vigilantism and racial injustice. The jury came back with its verdict after close to 3 1/2 days of deliberation. Rittenhouse, 18, could have gotten life in prison if found guilty of the most serious charge against him. He was charged with homicide, attempted homicide and recklessly endangering safety for killing two men and wounding a third with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle. The shootings took place during a night of protests over police violence against Black people in the tumultuous summer of 2020. Rittenhouse is white, as were those he shot. The jury appeared to be overwhelmingly white. Jurors listened to two weeks of dueling portrayals of Rittenhouse. Prosecutors say he was a "wannabe soldier" who brought a semi-automatic rifle to a racial justice protest and instigated the bloodshed. The defense says he acted in self-defense. Rittenhouse was a 17-year-old former police youth cadet when he went to Kenosha in what he said was an effort to protect property after rioters set fires and ransacked businesses on previous nights. He shot and killed Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, now 28. Rittenhouse is white, as were those he shot. Kai Cenat has found himself in the middle of controversy surrounding an OnlyFans model who allegedly doxxed him. After his private messages and photos were leaked online, the popular Twitch streamer addressed the situation, hinting at a possible legal action. In a recent live stream, the 22-year-old internet personality called out the model for claiming he had sex with her in exchange for money. The controversy began after she allegedly shared photos of herself in bed with Cenat and a screenshot of his $5,000 payment to her. If there’s one thing clear about Hip-Hop over the last few years, it is that fans will either create a beef between artists, or perpetuate an already existing one. Cardi B and BIA recently addressed the commentary surrounding the former’s new record “Like What (Freestyle).” The track, which came out this past Friday (Mar. 1), samples Missy Elliott’s 1999 hit “She’s A Bi**h.” The Massachusetts rapper sampled the same song last year on “I’m That Bi**h” featuring Timbaland. While rappers drawing inspiration from and flipping the same records is far from uncommon and yielded many hits over the last few decades the Bronx rapper has been panned for the act. The discourse was bolstered by the fact that the Grammy winner teased a new song at the end of the “Like What (Freestyle)” video which bears similarities to BIA’s 2023 track “Fallback.” An X (formerly Twitter) user shared snippets of both songs on Monday (Mar. 4), writing “But Bia is definitely on Cardi’s mood board a lot.” BIA responded to the tweet with woozy face emojis, although it is unclear whether she was woozy toward Cardi B sampling the same song, or the fan for trying to conjure up beef. It is worth noting that she did like the original tweet, in addition to other tweets alluding to her ability to write raps and people trying to sound like her. One minute later, she tweeted “Yall are sick” with laughing emojis, which also wasn’t clear. The Invasion Of Privacy artist rarely goes without a response. Hours after BIA’s tweets, Cardi tweeted “Bi**hes make a fool of themselves every single time *laughing emoji*.. ima show ya something when I release this song tho *winking emoji*.” Again, it is unclear whether her thoughts were directed at the “London” artist, or the fans who accused her of being a copycat. Now if Cardi B and BIA do have issues, “inspiration” would be an interesting catalyst for them, as BIA admitted to being inspired by the former Love & Hip Hop star. I’ve spent the entire year thinking about my friends. The strength of our relationship. Making new friends. And losing friends. As a young Black woman, I thought about the joy and pain of friendships, and the vitality of those relationships. Who and what makes a good friend depends on who you ask. But the beauty of these relationships illuminates our lives and mental health. To show the depth of good friendships and the pain of bad friends, I spoke with five Black women and men about what friendship means to them, and what they’ve learned from these relationships. Most of us can agree that making friends as an adult is hard. Beyond that, once you’ve established bonds that feel as though they could last, you’ve got to put in the work. I do think that sometimes it feels like you have to do a lot, and I also think, as Black women, we do that disproportionately because we pour so much of ourselves into people. Friendships are like roller coasters — they can have highs, and they can have lows. Sometimes they are exhilarating, and other times they can be scary and frustrating. Cardi B said that her long-awaited sophomore album will finally drop this year, teasing the new record on her Instagram story Friday. In the clip, the rapper said that she’s “not letting my anxiety, I’m not letting what haters say, I’m not letting what fans say” prevent her from releasing new songs, further stating that “I’ve got no choice because I’m dropping my album this year, so stay tuned for the announcement.” Cardi B pointed her phone camera at her laptop, which displayed several files titled “Cunty,” possibly the name of an upcoming song or an album. Cardi B and social media influencer Raymonte had a back-and-forth on social media after he made a few comparisons between himself and her. The social media personality recorded a video firing back at people who called him too “ghetto” to get brand endorsements. He compared himself to Cardi, who people frequently call “ghetto,” yet she is still allowed in spaces and has a string of endorsements. As a Black person, you guys say that I’m ghetto, but Cardi B, who doesn’t look like a visible Black woman to me,” Raymonte ranted, adding, “She is very, very ghetto. She’s way ghettoer than me, she’s way hooder, gangster, greasy than me. She was outside with the damn bloods and ya’ll don’t say that this lady is ghetto. Ya’ll don’t say that she isn’t marketable. It feels like everyone can be ghetto and Black besides ghetto and Black people.” This didn’t sit well with Cardi, who fired off a series of tweets, slamming the TikToker for including her in his discourse, which initially stemmed from his feud with Essence. “Why is it that y’all gotta use me to make y’all comparisons cause y’all only see the glory but not when I get drag 24/7? LEAVE ME TF ALONE AND OUT OF YALL BULLS***,” she demanded in one of her tweets. Raymonte began replying, claiming he meant no disrespect towards Cardi. However, he pointed out that the “Bodak Yellow” star has been afforded opportunities that other Black people who are perceived as “ghetto” do not get.
