S12aE21 - Moen brand Grab Bar Example (I didn't anticipate that.)
This is a companion video – the You Can Do It video on grab bars. In the first one, I used standard grab bars. They look just fin to me but some might think they are a little plain or commercial looking. I don’t really need them now, but Parachute Theory applies (better to have them and not need them than need them and not need them).
So these Moen brand “designer” bars are not a direct match to the Moen series throughout the main bathroom. The bathroom itself is small (ahh just like I like them) and difficult to actually install them far enough forward of the end of the bowl. So the vertical bars by a water closet are generally there to pull up from the seated position. The horizontal bars are for pulling yourself close to the toilet and steadying the user on the way down.
With the window and short wing wall (there to allow the electrical and light-fan switch) I can’t really get a single long horizontal bar, a diagonal bar or a bent bar o either the left or the right. So using the arm length, the vertical bar needed to go higher than normal. Also, I didn’t want the vertical bar to be a nuisance in reaching for the light-fan controls.
I will re-do the floor and at that time, put a ADA toilet in. I actually knew the Moen Secure Mount would not work in an exterior wall, but you may not have. Moen doesn’t actually do a great job on pointing that out if you ask me. I did, and actually got them to add an entry bar to the fiberglass shower/tub.

S12aE20 - Avoiding Expensive Transitions in Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring
It's not that it would break the bank, but I just don't like the threshold / transitions they make for waterproof luxury vinyl plank flooring. I do like the overall ease which it installs but not that one thing. It's not easy, but you can avoid some of the strips if you plan. © 2022 Del Hollow Productions

S12aE19 - Taxes Inflation Interest Recession Deadweight Loss and the Economy
The title kind of says what the video is all about is answering where does inflation come from, how is it different than cost of living increases, what are the effects of sudden interest increases and new taxes on the economy and is there a time to deficit spend or force people into the unemployment line. But most of all, it answers the question “How does raising interest rates (which makes things cost more) attack inflation and how? Once you understand as little as first year Econ, you will know what’s coming and can be less stressed. © 2022 Del Hollow Productions LLC

S12aE18 - Retrofitting Grab Bars - You Can Do It!
I confess that I am “old school” and prefer mounting to a stud or blocking. But, Internet research says, this mounting should be OK. And considering that, I wish I had installed them BEFORE I needed them. I assume I should say “I’m not a professional contractor. Me myself and I are completely happy with them. Moen has a “Secure Mount” that has been third-party tested so that’s a definite plus. Perhaps this style isn’t your thing, no worries. But I did have a rationale for selecting simple brushed nickel/stainless. These are 300 series stainless (400 series is magnetic, 300 is not). I’ll trust them at their word on the gauge and specific alloy. Friends, there just is no reason to risk falling. I followed closely but not exactly ANSI 117.1A. This is a private residence, and the ADA does not apply. Additionally, it’s a retrofit.

Is your Gardepro E8 Not Responding or are you having trouble with firmware updates? I went to change the batteries out in No. 1 and No. 2. just about the time I went to set out No. 3 and the first 2 were dead. Not just dead but capital DEAD! It's not unusual for batteries to die but both cameras did not want to respond. This is what I did to get them going. Maybe it will work for you. © 2022 Del Hollow Productions

S12aE11 - Inflation and Cost of Living Getting You Down
So has inflation and cost of living getting you down? I can’t control Congress’ spending money irresponsibly nor reverse the disastrous energy policy even though I do drive a Prius! (Insert virtue signal here!) Sometimes, if I allow myself, I could feel like an ant on a tetherball – just holding on for dear life. But, with everything being so busy I do have some delayed maintenance I could do. And at the rate paint, gas, wire – you name it is going up, now may be the perfect time to do some simple things. © 2022 Del Hollow Productions

S12aE4 - How To Install a Wireless Door Sensor on a Garage Door
I thought I’d post this one because some folks on the Internet are having troubles getting their overhead doors to signal correctly. One way I saw was very creative although just looking at it, it’s not likely to be very accurate.
So I suspect many people might think the bottom is the best place. Beyond the propensity to get wet, run over or somehow bumped into it does seem logical because that’s where the photo-eye for the door itself is. But that’s actually a safety sensor not a position sensor. True, either the magnet or sensor would be at the end of run, but the other part has to ride the rail like a hobo for a very long time.
Were I put mine it’s out of the way from mechanical damage with the slight influence of the counterbalance cable. But I could scooch that over a tad more. I do have mine operating with extreme precision and if you notice the sensor is a tad high. The purpose for that is I often run an SO cord out of the garage, and I want to manually let the door down and it still read closed.
And maybe your brand is a wee bit large or the door is a little sloppy in the roller track. You might be able to move it from beside the door to above the door. In either case you want to disconnect the door from the opener and slowly move the door by hand to make user the sender reacts, and the door can’t hit it. It might pop-off and the alarm trip.

S12aE3 - Filling a 2 inch Pole for Camera, Solar Panel, Light, etc.
These are tremulous times, lots of things are hard to find. Here I used a piece of 1-1/2” EMT (thin wall) as an antenna pole, or more accurately, a light-gauge utility pole. The base is embedded in concrete but that leaves quite a bit above. It’s certainly enough to hold a light LED lamp or camera. But, it might be subject to vandalism. So I filled the tubes. Concrete would be cheaper but with this diameter, I had concerns. I opted for no shrink grout.

S12aE2 - Mounting a Flat Base LED Solar Motion Security Light to a 2 Inch Pole
As part of an over-all project, I wanted to add some light at the end of the drive. There's no power down there and a common off-the-shelf solar light needed to be adapted. The name pretty much says it "Mounting a Flat Base LED Solar Motion Security Light to a 2 Inch Pole." In a couple of videos in (they get shorter) I show you what all of this is coming to.

S11aE18 - 2021 Year End Special - Trail Cam Science
It's a different take than you will get anywhere. To be clear, I have nothing against anyone purchasing a "No Glow" or "Low Glow" unit. What I do in this is investigate and filter the "science" so often quoted by the "everybody knows" crowd. Just how long did people believe the moon phase nonsense? In this video I wind up showing a GardePro E8, not to sell one - I sell nothing. But, it does a good overall job when certain inherent aspects are adjusted for. I do talk about the app. I think it needs a tweak here and there, but I like it. You will too.
No nocks on other YouTubers, but just so much of the Internet is filled with a lack of grasp. If enough people say it - it must be true. And in this year end special, I tried to explain enough of the Science that you might get the maximum out of your cameras, especially the lower end units. They will have their limits, but you might squeak a bit more performance out of them after watching. Or maybe not. I didn't even get into construction of these things or IP ratings - it's just super long. And I spent a lot of time up-front debunking something.
Throw me a like, a subscribe, refer a friend. Comment (politely - the P.C. verbiage police are all over). Tell me if you disagree and why, specifically if you have a STEM background. After 2 years, so very many people still believe you can filter a 124 nm protein based airborne pathogen with a mouth cover. They are not dumb, they just have heard some things from so many people for so long, they don't trust their own understanding. © 2021 Del Hollow Productions, all rights reserved.
