Your Family Business’ Brand Identity
Family businesses have an interesting and unique way of preserving their identity as they pass on from generation to generation. With each new leadership, the family business can construct its own brand identity that fits with the current market and competition. This allows the business to continue being successful while also staying true to its roots.
The foundation of a family business depends on the combined efforts of various stakeholders – shareholders, owners, managers, and employees – all working together towards a common goal. The bonds formed between these individuals over the years is what gives a family business its unique strength. Each generation adds its own distinctive style and touch that creates an ever-evolving story for the business. Through generational change, family businesses can blend time-tested traditions with modern trends – creating an exciting blend of timelessness and innovation.

How to Fight Perfectionism
After years of working in corporate America, I finally decided that it was time to take a risk and pursue my dream. I cashed in my retirement savings and used the money to start my own business. It was a daunting task, but I had faith that I would make something of myself. I reached out to everyone I knew to help get the word out about my business. I started by selling promotional products. That picture was my first direct mail to everyone I knew to announce my new business venture. There those boxes were put together with my children helping and stacked on my fireplace mantel. 😊 Eventually friends I knew were asking for my expertise in marketing and graphic design. Thus, two businesses began to form.
And before long, what started as an idea turned into something real that made a meaningful impact in people’s lives. Just last week, a project left a client in tears. Tears of happiness because her own branding was coming to life. What a gift she gave me!
As we journey through life, it is important to look at where we have come from to know where we are headed. It is comforting to look back and see how far we have grown, what lessons we have learned and how much progress we have made. Looking back at our past can help us gain perspective on the present and build excitement for the future. We can appreciate each moment of progress, both big and small, knowing that every step of the journey has brought us closer to reaching our goals.

When you point a finger at someone, three fingers point back at you.
The old saying goes, "When you point a finger at someone, three fingers point back at you." This is especially true when it comes to judging others; the harsher you judge others, the harsher you judge yourself. Often, people who judge others are projecting their own insecurities and shortcomings onto others, to deflect attention from their own flaws. When we judge others, it can also reflect our own lack of self-acceptance and self-love. In contrast, those who are more accepting and compassionate towards others typically have a healthier and more positive self-image. Treating others with kindness and understanding can not only improve our relationships with others, but also help us grow as individuals by fostering our own self-love and acceptance.

How to Fight Perfectionism & Thrive Despite the Side Effects
The day I lost everything. So long ago. Glad those days are well behind me. I got my attorney notifications that morning & by afternoon, I had post-it notes strung across my walls. That young lady was my assistant sitting on my condo floor as we started setting up Quickbooks.
The aftermath of the feeling of failure and isolation was overwhelming, but in the end, it allowed me to start anew. Starting over was not easy, but it opened new possibilities and allowed me to grow in different areas of my life. I had to rebuild everything from scratch.
It taught me resilience and an appreciation for life that I may not have otherwise been able to discover. Through this process, I have learned the valuable lesson to cherish what is most important in my life and to press forward, no matter what happens.
If you are in a dark place, know a new day is coming.

FRI FAMILY Defining Relationship
If you are a Family Business owner you play an important role in preserving and protecting the long-term vision for the company. You provide stability, continuity, and strong relationships between family members. When family members are involved in decision-making, there is more incentive for them to ensure that the company's goals are met over a longer period of time. By maintaining a clear vision and plan for the future, family businesses can guarantee that their business will be successful and sustainable into the future. Each Friday we are discussing The Business of Family Business.
ABOUT DARLENE GAGNON
She left home at seventeen.
In an abusive home full of frightening days and nights, she made a radical decision to go it alone. Now, she is an award-winning entrepreneur.
Sometimes, you must die inside to be reborn into your true self.
Leaving corporate America was a risk worth taking, and over a decade later, Darlene ventured to start her own business. She took a step of faith to use her marketing expertise to help business owners build their companies’ brand presence.
As a mother of five, she had big visions of her kids being a part of her business by this time. While this did not come to fruition, Darlene learned the serious “business” of a “family” business.
Darlene Gagnon is an award-winning entrepreneur recognized by the National Association of Women Business Owners and is an Enterprising Women Inspirational Entrepreneur. She served on the board of directors for Entrepreneurs’ Organization and has mentored entrepreneurs and start-ups for over a decade.
Her two companies, WeKinnect Global Branding Agency and Kinetic Promotional Product Services, have been recognized as “Best Places to Work” and “Largest Agency” by American City Business Journal. Both companies serve the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia markets. Most recently, induction to the 1 million dollar club with industry leader iPROMOTEu.
In 2016, her husband became, a business partner Denis Gagnon, a French-Canadian Air Force veteran. The couple’s dynamic partnership has led to business expansion and involvement in philanthropic activities. Exemplifying their passion for supporting the local entrepreneur and protecting local communities.
Darlene’s passion is to rid entrepreneurs of their ongoing guilt or what we call “imposter syndrome.” Her new “360-Entrepreneur” Learning Series will teach entrepreneurs how to learn from the past to better the present. Then make better decisions moving into the future.
She is devoted to giving business owners the tools they need to become more conscious humans, business owners, parents, community leaders, and citizens.
ABOUT THE 360 ENTREPRENEUR
Thus, a 360-degree view of entrepreneurs’ life includes the past, present, and future. We learn from the past to better understand the present and make better decisions moving into the future. Tips, tools, and resources we create via social media posts, vlogs, blogs, ebooks, and other content resources, should feed into the entrepreneur’s self-reflection. It should help them overcome problems that challenge their relationships or business and support optimal decisions to improve their future.
The Past
Presenting a view of the past means providing a meaningful and easily digested view of the entrepreneur’s history. Unfortunately, entrepreneurs forget to reflect on their achievements. Instead, you find they are critical of their mistakes and tend to focus on their “failures.” Our role is to assist the entrepreneur in reflecting, acknowledging their strengths, and viewing their “failures” as opportunities to improve.
The Present
Our thoughts are compelling. Therefore, by changing how we think about our lives and circumstances, we can almost instantly alter the course of our lives. But, how do we help an entrepreneur do this?
How do we get them started? One way is to address unhelpful thinking styles and significantly influence how they interpret the world around them. The tools they need are best practices, experience sharing, and a list of experts to help them control their thoughts and make better decisions.

The 360 Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur who takes a 360-degree view of their lives is what we call a 360-Entrepreneur. There can never be an end to analyzing one’s life; failing to live life intentionally is the ultimate sin. Entrepreneurs must see they have a higher calling than any other individual in business and society. When small business represents 50% of the USA’s and 40% of Canada’s GDP, an entrepreneur’s decisions affect many.
My passion is to rid entrepreneurs of their ongoing guilt or “imposter syndrome.” We will challenge them not to be victims but become victorious over their challenges and obstacles. We will give them the tools they need to become more conscious humans, business owners, parents, community leaders, and citizens.

CHRISTMAS FAILURE
I was on autopilot, and all I could think about was not failing. Yet, I was. I can remember several years in a row at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I would get up at 4 a.m. and cook for our entire family and our extended family. I would recruit my kids to join in, and the music would play as we cooked up a storm. But as our family members would arrive and our four tables beautifully set, I would serve the food and then disappear into our bedroom.
I had nothing left to give anyone. I was mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. I made every holiday as memorable as I could for everyone but myself.
For everyone, delicious delights, my husband, and his father personally served dinner at their favorite spots at the table each time. But my strive for perfection left me empty.

BURNED OUT ENTREPRENEUR
Every entrepreneur faces the challenge of finding the motivation and inspiration to pursue their business goals. The journey of building a successful business strategy can be daunting, but with the right mindset and tools at your disposal, you will be able to achieve more than you ever expected. Here are some tips that entrepreneurs can use to find the inspiration they need to develop their own unique strategies that help them reach their goals.
1. Stay informed on industry trends – Keeping up to date with emerging trends in your field is essential for any successful entrepreneur. By staying informed about what’s happening in your industry, you can better prepare yourself for potential changes or disruptions that may arise. Doing so will also give you valuable insight into which direction your business should be heading to stay competitive and ahead of the curve. Additionally, actively researching and reading articles related to your sector can give you fresh ideas that could serve as great fuel for sparking new plans and strategies.
2. Network with other like-minded entrepreneurs– Making meaningful connections within the entrepreneurial space can have a huge impact on discovering creative ideas and translating them into actionable plans. Learning from the experiences of fellow entrepreneurs provides invaluable knowledge about different approaches and tactics for achieving success. You never know who might have just the thing that helps push your business forward!
3. Take time for self-reflection– Crafting effective business strategies requires clarity, focus, and understanding of one’s strengths and weaknesses. Taking regular time out from daily routines to reflect on what has been done well or needs improvement sets entrepreneurs up for greater chances of success in future endeavors. Moreover, it is important not forget to take care of oneself both mentally and physically during this journey as it enables a more productive working environment when recharged properly..
By following these steps, entrepreneurs can effectively uncover those hidden moments in their lives that provide powerful sparks of creativity required for constructing strong foundations upon which successful businesses grow!

DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE AN EMOTIONAL BOND TO YOUR BUSINESS
Succession planning for family-owned businesses is a complex task that involves many considerations. At its core, it is important to realize that there is an emotional bond between the person taking over the business and those in the family who have owned and operated it before them. This connection can be a source of motivation and support when making decisions regarding the direction of the business, as well as a reminder of why it has been successful in the first place. Moreover, involving family members in the process can help create an even stronger bond among them, ensuring that all involved are on board with any changes being made.

My passion is to rid entrepreneurs of their ongoing guilt or “imposter syndrome.” We will challenge them not to be victims but become victorious over their challenges and obstacles. We will give them the tools they need to become more conscious humans, business owners, parents, community leaders, and citizens.

Benefits of a Spiritual Practice for Small Business Owners
Work demands can be stressful, but making time for your spiritual life can help reduce that stress. Whether through prayer, meditation, or simply spending time in nature, connecting with something larger than yourself can help put things into perspective. It gives you the strength to face challenges head-on.

FRI FAMILY Defining Relationship
Entrepreneurs guide our families by the same values and ideals that guided our nation and North America for centuries: honesty, trust, faith, and compassion; ideals like freedom of expression, independent thought, equality, and constitutional rights.
