Taking The Pee 2024 Episode 5 - Solipsism and me
Solipsism - the quality of being very self-centred or selfish.
There’s a lot of talking, but not much listening, how can we ever achieve change to the political system by talking?
Learning clever words - does it enhance the debate or distance those who are not as well read, should language be kept simple, are we alienating the very people we want involved in these debates?
Who is calling the shots in our political elites? It seems as if our politicians are not interested in what the people say.
The opposite of listening is bringing in hate speech laws, which criminalise criticism of the very issues our governments have created
The problem with defining hate speech and investigating is that anyone can be offended by certain points of view
We all spend too much time focused in on ourselves, which has crated the issue with identity which sets us against each other because it creates conflict
The selfish nature of living with a chronic health condition.
The moral burden of needing a transplant.
The altruistic nature of organ donation.

The Scorpion and The Frog Explained
This is my explanation of my previous video. We've seen a disturbing response to what happened in Israel. The full victim (Palestine) and oppressor (Israel) narrative has been super imposed onto a conflict with potentially dire consequences. The virtue signal jumps to defend the so called victim, with little knowledge of what they're supporting.

TTP Episode 6 Multiple Sclerosis with Patti Bevilacqua
Welcome to Taking the Pee Episode 6 conversations about life, health and overcoming the challenges we face on our individual journeys.
This time I speak to Patti Bevilacqua about multiple sclerosis.
In September 1989, Patti started her dream job; teaching high school physical education. However, five months later, before the end of her first year of teaching, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Ten years later, she left the only job she ever wanted due to worsening symptoms of MS. In 2001, Patti went back to university to pursue graduate studies at the University of Toronto. Her ultimate professional goal was to teach and supervise others keen to enter the same profession. In 2005, she graduated with a Ph.D. in Teacher Development. Her research focused on the impact of chronic illness on teacher identity. However, she never secured a tenured position as a teacher educator and went on long-term disability in 2007. Fourteen years later, she discovered her life with MS was far richer when she focused on living each day as her best self.
We chat about the impact of chronic illness on our lives and the changes required to shift our focus away from the struggles of dealing with a life changing condition to the wonder of being in the moment and just enjoying life in all its fulness.
