4th Time's the Charm
This peach tree is in its 4th year of production. Each and every year, I have peaches that start out nicely but succumb to brown rust. I have tried pesticides, herbicides, organic this and that, and none of it has stopped it. I even went so far as to dig up evergreen trees nearby since that can have an effect on peaches. This year, I'm doing a neem oil/unscented soap concoction every 2 weeks in hopes that it will work. If it does, then this will be my regimen each and every year. If it doesn't, then it's back to the drawing board for me.

Carolina Reaper Germination - Testing 2 Methods #seeds #gardening #howto
In the past, I have attempted to grow the Carolina Reaper. Every time I have tried, the seeds have either not germinated or the seedlings peter out after a week or so and I give up.
I decided to give it one more try this year and hope for the best.
A friend of mine grew these last year and donated seeds to me, so I will be trying them out in small pots in a Jiffy greenhouse and others in a homemade seed starter. I'll be posting updates as I go, so get ready and I'll tell you what you need to do.

Getting Started with Luffa
I have always tried growing things that aren't typically found in a small home garden. Long about 2015 or there abouts, I decided to try Luffa and see if they would grow in my garden. I wanted to see if they were like a sponge and whether or not I could use them. I didn't do any looking into how to grow them, just plopped them in the ground. They are vining plants similar in color and shape to a cucumber or gourd, but the insides aren't edible.
I ran across a packet of luffa seeds stored about my refrigerator and decided to see if they would sprout. Here is part one in our journey from Luffa seedling to Luffa sponge.

Chinese Takeout Seed Starter
Using a Chinese takeout tray as a greenhouse. These come equipped with a seed starting tray and a humidity dome. The good thing about using these is that you can place more than one seed in them for germination. It will also eliminate the guess work of wondering whether or not that single seed you planted will sprout. If you use this method, the ones that don't sprout don't matter, and you can start multiple plants at one time. Drilling holes in the lid helps with letting some moisture escape and keeps down the amount of mold if the soil is too damp. Place them on a heating mat or put them outside in the sun to get things going!

Will They Root? Direct Sowing Blackberry Cuttings
A few months ago, I snipped off some blackberry cuttings from a plant that my grandpa had in his back yard. He grew blackberries for years and years using these vines. I also found the flower bulb planter in his belongings and decided to use it to dig my holes for these transplants. I have never had any luck planting cuttings, but with any luck, this method will work out and the blackberries I've always enjoyed will be enjoyed for years to come.
Stay tuned and I'll tell you what you need to do!

How to Brine and Bake a Whole Chicken
In today's video, I'm going to show you a sure fire method for juicy baked chicken. None of that dried out white meat found here!
Sit back, and I'll tell you what you need to do!
#redneckery #chicken #chickenrecipe #baking #best
Here's the recipe if you want to give it a try!
Chicken Ingredients
6-7 pound chicken
1 Medium white or yellow onion (cut into semi-large chunks)
6 Cloves of garlic (crushed)
1 Tbsp kosher salt
2-3 Tbsp unsalted butter (for basting)
Thai Basil (to taste)
Rosemary (to taste)
Brine Ingredients
½ to 1 gallon of hot water
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup iodized salt
Instructions
Mix the water, salt, and sugar together to make your brine. Be sure to do this a day prior to baking your chicken.
Remove the chicken from its packaging. Remove any giblets and rinse the chicken.
Place the chicken into the brine, making sure to remove bubbles and place in a refrigerator overnight.
The following morning, remove the chicken from the refrigerator. Drain the brine and rinse the chicken in cold water.
Dry the chicken with paper towels and place it on a wire rack above your basting pan. Return the chicken to the refrigerator and leave uncovered until ready to bake.
When you are ready to bake, remove the chicken from the refrigerator.
Heat your oven to 425.
Place the chicken into your roasting pan.
Apply the Kosher salt inside the bird's cavity.
Chop your onions and crush your garlic. Place these into the cavity as well.
Melt the butter and baste the bottom of the chicken, then sprinkle it with basil and rosemary. Repeat this for the other side of the chicken.
Insert a meat thermometer into the deepest part of the chicken breast.
Cook the chicken until your meat thermometer reads 165 and then remove from the oven.
Allow the chicken to rest for 10 minutes before carving.
Enjoy your juicy chicken!
