Khao Kha Moo Chang Phueak (ข้าวขาหมูช้างเผือก) Street Food , Chiang Mai Thailand
Vlog # 58
7.12.15
I went out that evening for some street food.
The "lady in the Cowboy Hat" was getting a visit from Knobby lol.
So after a quick tuk-tuk ride, I was there.
The stall is near the Pratu Chang Phueak (ช้างเผือก) gate and is there most evenings. I had a dish known as khao kha moo (ข้าวขาหมู), which is pork leg or knuckle with rice and a boiled egg.
I soon found a table and tucked into the meal. It was very tasty and I was glad I went along.
A big thank you to Mark Weins for his vlogs and the inspiration to make some of my vlogs.
After seeing his food vlogs before my 2015 trip I just had to try some for myself. I like the mini adventure of first finding the stalls and restaurants and then ordering and eating the foods Mark has vlogged about.
I never used to like spicy food much but after eating some of the dishes I now love spicy food and love Thai food even more.

Restaurant Review SP Chicken (SP ไก่ย่าง) Thai Food Chiang Mai Thailand
In the early evening 5.12.15, I went along to SP Chicken.
Another one of the restaurants I wanted to try out.
Once again I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed what I ordered. It was very tasty indeed.
After my email, I went along to the Saturday evening market to walk some of that meal off.
So if you're in Chiang Mai make sure you go along and try some of their dishes.

Currency Exchange Warning Thai Baht (Tip Vlog) Bangkok Thailand
2.12.15
I Was in MBK Centre in Bangkok and after a nice lunch in the food court I went down to the 4th floor to get some money changed from English pounds into Thai baht.
While I was in Pattaya I had a little trouble with this as notes with any writing on them were not being accepted.
So with this in mind, I took all the notes with no writing on with me to get changed.
I went to the desk and was told any notes with any marks at all would not be accepted. Even a fold mark was no good!
I could not believe what I was hearing. So after a short argument, I went to another bank and they took all my notes and changed them !! WTF?
So beware of any notes with any sort of marks, dirt, pen marks, rips, tears... anything apart from a brand new note was not being accepted at a lot of currency exchanges.
Even though the Thai notes I was given had all sorts of marks on them!

*Sorry for the backlighting*

Made it to Suvarnabhumi Airport using the Airport Rail Link.
So easy to use and so much cheaper than a taxi.
When we arrived at the airport we made our way down to the first floor and into the food court for some food. It's like the food centre in MBK with the tokens and we had a good cheap meal there.
Then it was time to get to the gate and board the plane.
Next stop... Chiang Mai.

The evening before I flew in from Bangkok on Thai Airways.

Was surprised a lot of the bars and clubs shut at midnight.
I did find a go-go bar that would open till 2 am later in my Chaing Mai stay.

Soi 4 People Watching Nana Night life Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 46
2.12.15
After a long day on the tour (Vlogs 38 to 44) I went for a nice leg and foot massage. Then after decided to relax for a while and have a few beers. I sat at Jools Bar & Restaurant down Soi 4 just down from Nana Plaza.
I sat outside and did some people-watching for a while. As ever always something to see in Bangkok.
Always amazes me how anybody makes a living. The massage parlours and bars etc are always staffed it seems and it makes me wonder how people make a living.

Bridge Over the River Kwai Tour Part 5
From vlog # 41, the train powers up and we start the next leg of the tour.
We had been told by the tour guide if we paid a little extra we would get "better" seating on the train. So we did, when we got on the train and saw the "better" seating was just wooden bench seats we all wondered what the lesser seating was like!
Oh well may as well just sit back and go with it. It was nice to get a breeze and see some of the countryside. As there were no windows those of us with cameras spent most of the journey hanging out of the windows taking stills photos and shooting movies. It was a hot and dusty journey but some good sights on the way. The "Dangerous Curve" is one of them.
The journey ended with lunch at a very welcome restaurant. We all needed some shade, some cold drinks and some lunch at this point.

Bridge Over The River Kwai Tour Part 4
So After we left the boat we made our way up to the bridge.
There was a small market there and a few shops and I wanted to get a souvenir and to look around.
The tour guide told us we only had a few minutes until the train arrived to take us onto the Hellfire Pass.
I wasn't happy with this as the tour so far I felt had been rushed. Should we have left Bangkok earlier I was thinking. Also, the delay in leaving the Shangri-La Hotel did not help.
So no souvenir shopping and had to race about to at least get some photos and footage before the train pulled in. Was this the only train due on the day? Could we have taken a later train? Who knows.
So after rushing about the train arrived. We all got on and the next part of the tour got underway.

Our boat arrived and we all got in.
For some reason, the tour guide put the tallest bloke, right at the front. So as we started I had to change the shooting angle.
The journey up the Khwae Yai River was very pleasant, I enjoyed this very much. Lots of sights to see.
Before long we got our first views of the bridge itself so as the boat slowed I took some still shots. We then passed underneath before mooring up and getting out of the boat.

After a nice refreshing lunch I was hoping we were going to be taken to another venue on the tour but no.
It was back onto the coach to be taken back to Bangkok.
I wasn't too happy about this but nothing I could do about it. I did a little filming on the way back to the Shangri-La Hotel (our drop-off point)

Mysterious cavalcade
I was on my way for a nice foot massage down Soi 5 Sukhumvit and was walking along the Sukhumvit Road when I noticed there was no passing traffic. This is very unusual for this busy road. There was a heavy police presence and they were making sure the road was clear.
I stopped and shot this little vlog. Once the cavalcade had passed life got back to normal in seconds.
There had been a few of these cavalcades over the past few days.
I can only imagine there were some important people in the city be they foreign government or famous people of some sort.

Part 2 of the River Tour,
After being taken to the cemetery it was back on the tour bus and was then taken to the Jeath Museum.
This showed us some images of what it was like all those years ago and some of the hardships the poor prisoners had to endure.
Hard to believe how bad things were for those poor men. It makes you think and it hits home how fortunate we all are in this day and age.
I took my chances filming inside as it wasn't allowed really but others on the tour got cameras out so I filmed when I could without being noticed.
Once that part was over we made it to the river side and our tour boat arrived.

An early start for me that morning 5 am I got up & got ready.
I had to be ready for the minibus that was going to pick me up outside my hotel The Dynasty Grande. It was going to be a long day but a trip I was looking forward to.
After a short wait, a minibus picked me up, we had a short journey over to the Shangri-La Hotel where we waited for other people to be ferried in then we could board a coach to take us on the tour.
If you haven't been to the Shangri-La Hotel you have to see it, such luxury!
Anyway, the coach arrived and off we went. It was nice to see some of the countryside on the way and it was a relaxing journey. The first stop was at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. A very sobering visit to see the human cost of building the bridge. Makes you think was it all worth it when you see the rows of graves?

Pattaya Beach Road Flood Pattaya Thailand
Vlog # 37
Bonus Vlog For Ya,
I was going back over my footage and realised I had forgotten this little vlog.
25.11.15
Beach Road Pattaya,
Went into Central Festival for a nice latte. As we went in it was a hot humid day. 45 mins later we came out and it had been raining. Looked at the beach road and it was flooded with water lapping over the kerbs.
Fortunately, we missed the downpour and also good as because the firework competition was coming up there were pumps on the pavement ready to pump the water away.
So in a few short minutes, the flood had been sucked away. It was amusing to see scooters still riding around knee-high water all around.

After I visited the Royal Thai Air Force Museum it was time to head back to my hotel in Nana.
So got a cab to take me back. This driver was better than the one who got me to the museum (see vlog # 34) The journey was smooth with no problems and surprisingly for Bangkok, no traffic.
I do like the Bangkok skyline amongst other things in Bangkok. The skyline is a bit random with many different styles. Lots of new designs with old buildings and temples scattered in between.

Royal Thai Air force Museum Visit Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 35

Royal Thai Air force Museum Visit
After a nice breakfast at a street food stall on Soi 11, it was time to get a cab and head over to the Royal Thai Air force Museum.
I like planes and especially warbirds so had been looking forward to this visit for a long time. After the fun and games of the cab ride (see vlog # 34) we got there.
As I entered the museum I noticed a sign saying it was closed? It shouldn't be closed as I checked the opening times etc on the internet beforehand. I asked and was told it was still alright to look around so a woman told me but she didn't seem sure. So I entered and thought I would see as much as possible before somebody said otherwise.
Some good and interesting planes at the museum are on display and a few of my favourite aircraft both propeller and jet-engined. There are lots of other displays and history and information for you to see.
The museum was deserted so I had the run of the place with only a handful of other visitors so was able to get all the shots I wanted. A few surprises for me as some planes I didn't realise the Thai air force has had over the years.
I would go again on another trip as I really enjoyed this visit.
The nice little gift shop there also and a little cafe for drinks and light meals.

Bangkok Cab Ride ( also tip vlog) Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 34 Bangkok Cab Ride
Another day in Bangkok & another day that sees me in another cab.
Today I was headed over from Nana to the Royal Thai Airforce Museum.
I have an interest in aircraft and especially warbirds. So on my 2015 Thailand trip, this museum visit was a must.
The trip started out well and traffic was light. But as we got near the museum area the cab driver made a u-turn?
Nothing wrong there you might think. Well, there was something wrong as he was making a wrong turn.
How did I know? Well, I had my mobile phone on my lap with Google maps running. This meant I could see where we were so knew right away he was wrong.
I pointed this out to him and after he tried putting up a bit of a well-used argument about knowing all the sort cuts etc I got him to turn back around and head in the right direction.
Now if we weren't that far away or I could see via Google maps his "shortcut" was right I would not have said anything. but this bloke was wrong and of course, I was paying the fair!
So this is also a Tip Vlog, if you can use your mobile phone and have Google maps or an app that gives you maps via GPS for example use it.
For this trip, I had a DTAC sim with data which proved to be a very prudent move indeed.

I was back in Bangkok for the second time on my 2015 trip.
The evening of 29.11.15 I went back to Soi Cowboy and ended up outside Suzie Wong's again for a few Chang's. Sat there for a while to watch the world go by. It was a nice warm evening and the chang's were cold.

Dynasty Grande Hotel Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 32
I got back into Bangkok in the afternoon of 29.11.15.
This time I checked into the Dynasty Grande Hotel.
The hotel looked good on their website and when I got into my room (316) I wasn't disappointed. It had all you need for a comfortable stay. The bonus for me was the size and the bath. Most hotels I have used so far in Thailand have only had a shower so was nice to have the option of taking a bath for a change.
The room was nice and quiet at night and the bed nice and comfy.
Nice location also being as it is near Nana BTS station.
There is also a nice restaurant with the hotel which is at the front of the building.
This is called the Bloom Cafe. They serve good tasty food there.
I will use this hotel and restaurant again.

Pattaya Firework Display Night Life Pattaya Thailand
Vlog # 30
On the evening of 28.11.15, it was the annual fireworks display in Pattaya.
I went along to watch some of the displays and filmed some of them.
I managed to get a good spot on Beach Road. The seafront was rammed with people all enjoying the evening.
The beach road was shut off to all traffic and there were stalls set up in the road. Lots of good vibes and a good atmosphere that evening.

I wanted to check out the restaurant on the 6th floor and have a look at the place in general as it looked a bit different from your normal hotel.
While there I went to the top floor and enjoyed the great views for a while.
Worth a visit here if only to take in the views for a while on a nice day.
