Pattaya To Bangkok Road Trip Thailand
Vlog # 31
29.11.15
It was time to leave Pattaya for the 2015 trip. After packing and breakfast it was time to check out of The Inn House hotel and get in the cab to make my way back to “The Big Mango” aka Bangkok.
The cab ride this time was going to be more relaxing with no fear of dying at any second as I was using Mr Phuttiwong tel 094-889-4808 ( you will remember him from Vlog # 24)
So once clearing the traffic of Pattaya and we got onto the Chonburi-Pattaya Highway it was a nice cruise back to the capital.
Mr Phuttiwong drives nice and steady and this year (2015) has a new vehicle. So if you’re in Pattaya give him a call.

So got a Bhat bus from soi 13 then travelled up to Central road to the junction with Central Pattaya Road to walk back to the Beech road. When I got on board the driver was not hanging about and in places was speeding along. So a few of the usual sights and sounds of the busy Second Road in Pattaya for you.

Big C Food Court Thai Food Pattaya Thailand (TipVlog)
Vlog # 27
27.11.15,
Quick tip for you here,
When in the Big C extra in Pattaya (see vlog # 26)
I saw there was a food court. For those who know Bangkok and have been to the famous MBK centre, you will know of the food court there.
This one is similar as in you buy tokens and use those tokens to buy the foods of your choice. You then eat your fill and go away happy or full or if you have tokens spare after your choice of meal from the many different vendors you take your tokens back and get some money back.
The food is fresh and tasty. There is a wide choice of dishes to choose from.
So if you are in town why not try it out?
The Big C extra is Just off Central Pattaya Road.

Pattaya Second Road Walkaround Bars Thai Food Street Food Pattaya Thailand
Vlog # 26 Pattaya Walkaround
27.11.15
Woke up that day and had no real plans. So decided to just have a walk around in general and follow my nose.
I started at Soi 13 at my Hotel the Inn House then went down to just past Soi 13/2 and quickly checked out the Ruin Thai restaurant. I had seen this online and thought I would take a look.
Looked ok to me and that evening I went there for a meal which was very nice.
So after that, I carried on along Second Road. I passed the usual café’s bars, shops and the usual sights you see in Thailand. All walks of life from the very poor to well off “farangs” such as myself.
(farang for those who don’t know is a slang term given to western tourists by the Thai people)
I also passed Mathilda Restaurant. I have eaten there a few times and enjoy the food they serve.
So Went all the way up to Central Pattaya Road and turned right ending up at the Big C Extra supermarket.
I popped in for a look around and to cool off. While there I enjoyed a really nice ice-cold smoothie. After that, I came out and had a slow walk back again.

The Sanctuary of Truth Pattaya Thailand
Vlog # 24
25.11.15
I went along for my second visit to the sanctuary. Always worth going to see if you’re in Pattaya.
There is so much detail to the woodwork that every time you come you see something new.
As it is made of wood and in the direct heat, sun, wind and saltwater from the bay the structure always needs attention. So every time you come you will find the workforce working on a particular section.
You do have to wear a hard hat when walking around and inside the sanctuary. There are various activities you can do while there including horse and elephant rides. There is a little restaurant so you have food and refreshments and a gift shop.
Check out the website for more details

I take a cab ride starting from Soi 13 with the junction of Second Road aka Pattayasaisong Road Then onto Pattaya-Nakula Road then onto Na kluea 12 alley ending up at one of Pattaya & Thailand’s most well-known tourist attractions & places to visit.
The cabbie is Mr Phuttiwong whom I have used for this trip & two trips to Suvarnabhumi Airport. He is a good safe driver, reliable & fair price. If you’re in town you can call him on 094-889-4808. He will go to all the main attractions in & around Pattaya & so his card says “anywhere in Thailand”

Road Trip to Pattaya (The Highway to Hell) Bangkok Pattaya Thailand
Vlog # 20
Road Trip to Pattaya (The Highway to Hell)
24.11.15
The first part of my 2015 Thailand trip was over. I was leaving Bangkok and going to Pattaya for a few days. So after getting a cab it was off to Pattaya. A journey I have done before by cab so thought I would film some of the trip.
At first, all seemed normal, the driver was happy and after a fuel stop, we were making good progress. The standard of driving in Thailand from the other motorists was normal for Thailand. Which means bad for the rest of the world!
But soon after the fuel stop his whole demeanour seemed to change. He started to sag down in his seat and started mumbling to himself. He would turn the radio up and the air conditioning down.
At first, I thought strange but oh well, let’s get there to Pattaya. As we carried on he pulled into a service area. He was so lazy that because there wasn’t a parking space outside the shop he wanted he drove off again. After that things got worse, the driving became more erratic. He would slow down in whatever lane we were in at the time, his head would drop, he would then shake his legs, stamp his left foot, talk to himself then speed up again. Now at first, I was getting really concerned. It looked like he was getting tired. I couldn’t see his eyes as he wore thick wraparound style sunglasses.
But I didn’t want to stop him as what could I do stuck on the side of a motorway in Pattaya? I kept an eye on him and would give him a nudge every now and then.
It was a good job the motorway has toll booths as this provided some respite for him for a few seconds. We did stop at one point for drinks so this gave a chance to relax for a few mins and get out of the car. At one point we were nearly rammed by a coach in the fast lane as the driver slowed again to 40mph.
When the signs started coming up for Pattaya it was such a relief that we would be off the motorway. If anything happened now at least the speeds would be lower and I could get to my hotel without him. Once I was in my hotel room the thought came to me that perhaps this driver had been working all night and still took on the job of driving down to Pattaya. Who knows if he made it back to Bangkok without crashing?
So what started out as a normal journey nearly ended up being the Highway to Hell.

My First ever Tuk Tuk ride in Bangkok Thailand.
Vlog # 12
I got in just outside Vimanmek Mansion 22.11.15 and wanted to go over to Soi 20 Pradipat Road.
I had my mobile phone on hand with Google maps loaded ready with the directions and the address written in Thai for the driver. He waived all these away and was sure of where he was going. I offered again but no no no he wasn’t having any of it. So we agreed on a price and we went.
Soon as he made his first turn I knew he had gone wrong but once again he wasn’t going to listen.
I had time to spare and thought I would go along for the ride and while sitting there cool off in the breeze and take in some sights. As you will see the driver took me on more or less a big circle.
Check Google maps with the road names and you will see.
He did not get the fair he thought he was getting at the end of the journey!
So beware of some tuk-tuk drivers and if you can check something like Google maps to make sure you are being taken where you want to go using the best route.

Quick vlog for The Kings Table Restaurant.
You will find The kings table down Soi 13 either of Second Road or Beech road depending on where you are.
The night of 24.11.15 I went there for a few beers and ended up spending the evening there.
It was one of the bar-girls birthdays and the Big BBQ night at the restaurant. So after being invited to stay for the BBQ I thought it rude not to enjoy some of the feasts on offer.
It was a great evening with lots of laughs and cold Chang beers.
So if you are in town do go along.

Inn House Hotel Pattaya
25.11.15
So after the “Highway from Hell” cab ride of Vlog # 20 I made it to the Inn house hotel.
Room 508 this year which was very nice as you can see. So got in, unpacked and relaxed.
I have used the Inn House twice now and both times have had a good stay with no problems.
It is situated along one of the more quiet soi’s off the Beech road or Second road (depending on where you arrive from) This suits me as I like to have a bit of peace and quiet when it comes to having a good night’s sleep. The rooms are nice and clean and this time had room 508 which had all I needed, a safe, good size fridge, generous size bed and a decent shower.

Nana Plaza Gets A VIP Visitor Night Life Bangkok Thailand

Nana Plaza Gets A VIP Visitor
Filmed in the evening of 23.11.15
I had just turned up at Nana Plaza and saw that there was something going on opposite the plaza.
After watching for a while I took a walk over the road to see what was going on.
Camera crews interviewing what seemed to be the Chief of Police or tourist Police?
I don’t speak enough Thai to understand what it was all about but guessed it was some sort of crack down on certain crimes or a new initiative on dealing with crime perhaps?
Anyway, the Chief and his posse made their way into Nana plaza and took a quick tour around.
After they had left it all died down and things soon got back to normal.
If there is a normal at Nana Plaza……….

Soei (ร้านเส่ย) Restaurant Amazing Thai Food Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 15
2nd restaurant review and it was the turn of Soei (ร้านเส่ย) to get a visit.
I found the restaurant easily via a motorbike taxi ride ( see vlog # 14)
When I got there it was mid-afternoon so plenty of free tables. But I hear this restaurant gets very busy mornings and evenings so be warned.
Anyway, I found a seat and ordered my meal. Here is what I ordered.
Kaem pla too tod (แก้มปลาทูทอด) mackerel cheeks
Goong chae nam pla (กุ้งแช่น้ำปลา)seafood dish, thai version of ceviche.
Tom yum pla too (ต้ำยำปลาทู) tom yum soup with mackerel
Pla goong pao (พล่ากุ้งเผา) shrimp salad
Chu chee pla too (ฉู่ฉี่ปลาทู), a coconut milk-based curry with mackerel
All very tasty indeed. I was stuffed after eating that lot and had a hard time walking.
The restaurant is right next to Sam Sen train station as you will see in the vlog.

Hua Pla Chong Nonsi (หัวปลาช่องนนทรี) Thai Food Night Life Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 18
My visit to one of the most famous fish restaurants in Bangkok.
23.11.15 was when I went along in the evening to Hua Pla Chong Nonsi (หัวปลาช่องนนทรี)
They have other restaurants around Bangkok but this one I think is the original.
Once I got there I saw the place was big, from the car park to the main seating area and the kitchen.
All very clean as well with some of the cleanest washrooms I have ever seen anywhere.
So when seated and the menu arrived with a happy smiling waitress it was time to order.
This is what I had (no order)
Tom yum pla gao (ต้มยำปลาเก๋า), tom yum in a Thai fire pot with brown marbled grouper
Neau boo pad pongari (เนื้อปูผัดผงกะหรี่), crab meat in a yellow egg curry
End hoy pad cha (เอ็นหอยผัดฉ่า), part of the scallop, stir-fried pad cha style with fingerroot, and lots of herbs and spices
Pad pak gachet (ผัดผักกะเฉด), stir fried water mimosa
Also some rice with mixed seafood
Sala loy kaew (สละลอยแก้ว), snake fruit with crushed ice for desert
Prices are shown in the film
All arrived very fast and oh so tasty. I could hardly move after eating all that.
Well worth a visit to this fine restaurant.

Rot Fai Train Night Market - ตลาดรถไฟ ศรีนครินทร์ Night Life Street Food Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 16
Rot Fai Train Night Market - ตลาดรถไฟ ศรีนครินทร์
Rot Fai Market (Train Market) in Bangkok is an authentic open-air bazaar selling an incredible array of vintage collectables and memorabilia from yesteryear, from antique furniture to hippy fashion and Mao kitsch.
It had been a long day (see vlogs 10 to 15) but that didn’t stop me from one more place to visit from my “to-do list”. I like to make the most of my time when in Thailand so going off the saying “no rest for the wicked” it was off to Rot Fai market on the evening of 22.11.15
Was a little bit further from the Nana/Sukhumvit area than I thought and my directions were a little off when I got there via BTS and taxi. I found out I could have actually used Udom Suk BTS station instead of On Nut And after trying to work out how to get around the shopping centre of the main road I got to the market at last.
All started well and at the start, there was little cafes, bars and stalls in the first section. The bars had some bands playing and there was a good vibe. Then as I started looking around I was a bit disappointed. It looked like any other normal market in Thailand with the usual stalls selling the same items. But as I wandered around after having a light meal at a street food stall I found the part of the market I had seen on the internet.
This was much more like it, vintage cars, motorbikes, lots of retro goods from the ’50s onwards.
Clothing, household items, electrical good, it’s all there. Well worth a visit and I would go again.
Lots of stalls and shops to choose from. The food hall as such is large with a big selection of foods for you to eat.
I came away very happy and pleased with my visit.
Note,
The directions I had said go to On Nut BTS and walk from there. When I got to On Nut I soon found out the directions were wrong. It’s better to go to Udom Suk BTS station and either walk or get a taxi from there as it is closer. Or just get a taxi the whole way.

Vimanmek Mansion Museum Tour Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 11
A quick vlog about Vimanmek Mansion in Bangkok.
I went along 22.11.15.
Soon discovered no photography allowed inside and even when I was outside and tried to get a few shots I was warned!
The security was a bit laughable after you pay you to have a bag "search" which is a quick half glance and a bit of ribbon tied onto your bag. Next, you put your bag into a locker (small charge for locker) then its off to take your shoes and socks off. Then as long as you have the right dress code (check website) it's in you go.
Once inside I was impressed with what I saw, I won't say too much as it's best you take a trip and take a look. But I enjoyed it very much.
If anybody knows the name of that bird please do comment below.

Rann P'aor (Pee Aor ร้านพี่อ้อ) Restaurant Great Food Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 8
My first restaurant review. Only a little vlog but it gives a quick overview of this small but very good restaurant. Not many "Farangs" go here so if you want what I call more "proper" thai food and not westernized Thai food go to a restaurant such as this. There is not much written in English but the staff are friendly and helpful.
I saw this on one of Mark Weins vlogs and when in town I had to go along and try it for myself. The food was very good indeed and I would go again.
The first dish was the Khao Goong Rad Sauce Man Boo (ข้าวกุ้งราดซอสมันปู).
The second dish was Ba Mee Yok Neau Ob (บะหมี่หยกเนื้ออบ).
The third dish was kuay Kuay Teow Tom Yum Goong Nam Khon (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวต้มยำกุ้งน้ำข้น).
Restaurant address,
Address: 68/51 Soi Petchaburi 5, Between Soi 5 – 7, Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok
