Almost two weeks after the U.S. debate debacle, President Joe Biden remains defiant about staying in the presidential race, despite growing division among Democrats.
Biden is trying to reassure not only Democrats, but also world leaders, about his leadership.
But as Jackson Proskow reports, time is running out to shift the focus away from whether the American president is fit for office.

Life of a Woodsman - Fried Grouse and Potatoes
Spending more time hunting has finally paid off. I was able to harvest a Ruffed Grouse that I fried up alongside a potato to enjoy as my supper. This was a very easy meal to make that didn't require a whole lot of ingredients but the final result was incredible. Meals like this are such a blessing to have at camp. Eating meals that are filling and also enjoyable to eat give you such a boost, not just with the energy they provide but they also go a long way in boosting morale. This meal certainly was a huge boost for me and I'm hoping I can harvest another grouse soon so I can make it again.

Extreme weather attribution technology links summer's 1st heat wave to climate change

Hurricane Beryl makes landfall in Mexico after wreaking havoc in the Caribbean
Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Mexico’s coast, near the resort of Tulum, as a Category 2 storm after leaving a trail of destruction through the Caribbean.
The U.S. National Hurricane Centre says Beryl is expected to rapidly weaken to a tropical storm as it crosses over the Yucatan Peninsula before re-emerging in the Gulf of Mexico and likely regaining hurricane strength.
Beryl caused widespread damage to several Caribbean islands, including extreme damage to the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique where 70 and 97 per cent of buildings were damaged, respectively.
“The severity of damages in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl are tangible and devastating," said Rhea Pierre, the IFRC’s disaster manager for the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. She added that Caribbean countries are bearing the brunt of the damage from devasting storms such as Beryl.

UK election: Brits react to Labour Party, Keir Starmer's landslide victory
The results of Britain's general election were a hot talking point among morning commuters, shoppers and traders at London's Southall Market on Friday, with Brits reacting to Keir Starmer's electoral victory.
Starmer's Labour Party won a huge majority in Thursday's parliamentary election, defeating Rishi Sunak's Conservatives and ending their 14 years of rule.
"I’m not really a fan of Labour. I think, their policies are sort of backwards. I voted Reform," an 18-year-old first-time voter said. Meanwhile, another voter who was happy about the election result said, " I just think it's what the country needs."
Plus, people in the constituency won by populist Reform U.K. leader Nigel Farage on Friday welcomed his election win and said they hoped he would live up to his promises.
Starmer, a 61-year-old former human rights lawyer, took over as prime minister around midday on Friday. Sunak, the youngest leader in modern British history, stepped into the role of prime minister in the autumn of 2022.

Catholic Church ordered to pay $104M to abuse victims in Newfoundland
In Newfoundland and Labrador, nearly 300,000 victims who suffered abuse by the Catholic clergy finally know how much the Archdiocese will have to compensate them.
A bankruptcy proceeding has determined the church must pay out $104 million for sexual and physical abuse cases dating back decades.
But as Heidi Petracek explains, it's money the now-bankrupt Archdiocese doesn't have.

In Ontario, it's going to be a lot harder to buy alcohol in the province over the next couple of weeks. Thousands of workers with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) went on strike Friday. The issue at the centre of the job action? Premier Doug Ford's ambitious plans to make alcohol more accessible throughout Ontario. This is a goal employees say could put their jobs under threat. Mackenzie Gray explains.

With the completion of this stump seat my camp is really starting to feel like home. Now it's time to focus on getting more food through the means of hunting and trapping.
Thank you to everyone who watches, your support means the world! Happy trails!

"An incredible moment": Palestinian family reunites in Quebec after months of anxiety amid conflict
It was a moment Zakaria Helles had been dreaming of for 10 months.
On June 24, he stood at Jean Lesage airport in Quebec City, surrounded by supporters, waiting to finally hold his wife, Islam, and their five children in his arms again. The university professor arrived in the province just before the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
“To hug them and embrace them between my arms, making sure that they are alive, they aren’t injured,” Helles says, looking back on the day from the dining room table of his temporary home. “They are still standing and they are with me in Quebec. That was an incredible moment.”
As Franca Mignacca reports, he had been trying desperately to get his family out of Gaza ever since.

NATO working to prepare Ukraine for future membership in the alliance: Stoltenberg
NATO is actively working with Ukraine and preparing them to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), according to Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. This includes efforts to build Ukraine's defence industry and deepen cooperation on innovation.
"All the work we are doing is to make Ukraine stronger, more interoperable and better prepared to join our alliance," Stoltenberg said at a news conference in Brussels, Belgium, ahead of the annual NATO conference.
Stoltenberg called NATO’s sustained support of Ukraine it’s “most urgent task” amid the country’s ongoing war with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly pushed for NATO membership, but requires an agreement between all Allies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned Western allies that it is risking a global war over Ukraine and that a direct conflict between Russia and NATO would mean the planet was one step away from a Third World War.
"There are no signs that President Putin is ready to negotiate for peace,” Stoltenberg said. “Because we saw his latest proposal and that was that Ukraine should give up all the territory in the four provinces he has annexed illegally,” he added.
