Video 4 from November 24, 2023 - Large pod of Bottlenose dolphins driven into the Cove
By Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project:
Taiji-Japan: Captured dolphins learn to associate trainers with food. As trainers approach, the dolphins begin to leap out of the water in anticipation of food. Getting dolphins to accept dead fish for food is a step towards breaking their spirit. Wild dolphins hunt for their own food, often cooperatively. They are able to choose what to eat and when to eat. This is just one of many freedoms taken away by captivity. We can end dolphin captivity. No demand = No supply. Don’t buy a ticket to any facility that holds dolphins in captivity. Nov 26, 2023

Livestream 2 from Taiji day 2 Japan a large pod of bottlenose dolphins were driven into the cove
Taiji Japan, Nov 24, 2023 :
Shortly after leaving the harbor, the dolphin hunters found a large pod of bottlenose dolphins. They were quickly driven into the Cove and separated into smaller groups. One group at a time was pushed closer to the shore. As their space became small and shallow, dolphins panicked and in desperate attempts to escape got entangled in the nets. It took 4-5 men to subdue each struggling dolphin. The dolphin would then be held against the side of a skiff and carried under the tarps where trainers inspected them. If it was decided they were suitable for captivity, the dolphin was then wrestled into a sling and carried off to a sea pen. 10 were taken for captivity. Never to see their family again, never to be free again. Why? Because people still pay to go to dolphin shows and to “swim” with captive dolphins. The remaining dolphins are being held overnight as there are still more dolphins to inspect. This is a business based on supply and demand. Let’s remove the demand. Don’t buy a ticket. Spread awareness.
Taiji Japan, Nov. 25, 2023 :
A very strange day. The large pod of bottlenose that was driven in yesterday was kept overnight. We expected more selection to occur this morning but instead 7 of the 10 captured bottlenose were returned to their family in the Cove. The hunters then drove the pod back out to sea. 3 captured bottlenose dolphins were left behind to start the process of breaking their spirit and “training” them to entertain humans. None were slaughtered.
Every year, hundreds of dolphins are still being captured for the global marine park and aquarium trade- these are some of the bottlenose dolphins that were captured yesterday.
Seeing footage of Taiji's drive hunts can be overwhelming, but it's important to keep in mind that these hunts are kept profitable from support from the global captivity industry, as dolphins that are live-captured sell to captive facilities for far greater amounts than dead dolphins do for meat.
But there is good news- Over the years, a number of regions around the world have banned the purchase of dolphins from Taiji, or have banned cetacean captivity altogether. It's up to all of us to continue raising awareness. Help take positive action for dolphins at: https://www.dolphinproject.com/take-action/save-japan-dolphins/

Livestream: 22 Melon headed whales were driven into the cove
Taiji Japan, Nov 21, 2023: Sadly, a pod of melon-headed whales was intercepted by the dolphin hunters today. The pod looked to be quite large. The hunters separated approximately 22 of them and drove them into the Cove. Exhausted, the melon-headed whales were unable to put up much of a fight and were quickly pushed under the tarps. The haunting sounds of thrashing, dying dolphins could be heard as all of the dolphins were slaughtered. Let’s hope the rest of the pod swims far away. .

Taiji - Japan: Yesterday (Nov. 12, 2023) dolphin hunters found a nursery pod of Risso’s dolphins. The pod was driven to the cove, where 12 adult dolphins slaughtered. Remaining in the pod were 7 juveniles and 1 calf, which were driven back out to sea. Without their family group, there is great concern for their survival.

A Family of Riss's Dolphins destroyed in Taiji Japan
Filmed in 2023 - a family of Risso’s dolphins (Babies and children in this family) was swimming freely in the ocean until they were intercepted by the dolphin hunters and driven into the Cove. All were slaughtered. Their lifeless bodies were dragged to the butcher’s house to be processed for human consumption. A very sad ending to beautiful and precious lives.

Soundtrack - Large Pod Of Bottlenose Dolphins Driven Into The Cove
Taiji Japan: On September 27th, a large pod of bottlenose dolphins was driven into the cove and left overnight. As documented by local Japanese activist, Kunito, the following day (Sept. 28th) the pod went through a captive selection process, where 9 dolphins were taken captive. An estimated 10 dolphins were taken under the tarps and slaughtered, and the remaining traumatuted and injured pod was driven back out to sea late in the day.
Now you know where dolphins in Dolphinariums come from. Please don't buy a ticket for dolphin show -Thank you

Faroe Islands Blood-Sport - 43 long-finned pilot whales killed
Despite shocking weather conditions, 43 long-finned pilot whales (39 according to the official count which excludes the sick, very young and an unborn foetus) were driven ashore by boats at Hvannasund, Faroe Islands this afternoon. With winds of 25 knots and gusts of nearly 40 knots it took nearly 3 hours from when the dolphins were first spotted to them being slaughtered, with local news outlets raising concerns about insufficient people on the shore the dolphins swiftly.
Hvannasund has already seen 54 dolphins killed this year (long-finned pilot whales and Atlantic white-sided dolphins) for a population of just over 400 people. It would seem that locals have no intention of following the Faroese guidelines of just 250g per month, otherwise this community would have taken just TWO pilot whales this year.

Iceland - Harpooned fin whales No. 18 and 19
Iceland, September 23, 2023:
'Hvalur 8' returns to the whaling station on Hvalfjordur with harpooned fin whales 18 and 19 of the 2023 Icelandic whaling season (whales 19 and 20 if we include the unborn calf cut from it's mother yesterday).
Hunting fin whales is inhumane - that goes without saying. But when the harpoons are killing the next generation as well - that's simply unspeakable.
How long would it have taken for this unborn calf to die after it’s mother was shot?
How long before it was starved of oxygen?
Long enough to be criminal?
Despite blatant violations of the Animal Welfare Act, Hvalur 8 has been released from a temporary suspension imposed earlier this week by The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST). It's now back at sea, continuing to steal the lives of endangered fin whales.
Since the beginning of this whaling season earlier this month, Kristjan Loftsson's actions have starkly illuminated the cruelty inherent in whaling. Multiple harpoons were fired at several whales, subjecting them to a painful, drawn-out death. One whale escaped after a harpoon had struck it.
Hvalur hf. persists in killing fin whales, disregarding animal welfare laws and defying the global moratorium on whaling established by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in 1986.

SHOCKING VIDEO OF ICELAND'S WHALING
Repost from @last_whaling_station and @hvalavinir (watch full video and support their documentary via their kickstarter! Link in their Instagram profile) MAST (Icelandic food and veterinary authority) has temporarily suspended the hunting of Hvalur boat 8 due to serious violations of animal welfare laws during the hunting of a fin whale. The suspension is valid until improvements have been made and verified by the Food and Fisheries Agency.During surveillance, it was found that the first harpoon shot by Hvalur 8 on September 7th hit the animal outside the specified target area, with the result that the animal was not killed immediately. In such cases, hunters must acc. new regulation to shoot the animal without delay again. It was not done until almost half an hour later and the whale died some minutes after that. Such a delay is considered a violation of the Animal Welfare Act and the regulation on whaling. Here is an interview with Hronn Jorundsdottir director of MAST last spring for the documentary.
Hvalur 8 is preparing to carry out yet more target practice - we've seen them out time and again this summer, shooting at static targets and spending a considerable amount of time lining them up for the perfect shot - and still the first whale harpooned this season saw two shots required and a time to death of over 30 minutes.
It simply is not possible to kill large whales humanely.
Five videos released by the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST) show how horrific commercial whaling is in Iceland.
41% of whales hunted in 2022 didn’t die right away, the median time was over 11 minutes and the average was 17 minutes. One suffered for one hour, another whale for two hours. Hrönn Ólína Jörundsdóttir, the head of MAST, called it “unacceptable”.
Please, contact the Prime Minister of Iceland and the Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and tell them to end whaling now. This is ecocide and can not continue this summer.

Helpless dolphins are tagged with GPS turning the sea into a bloodbath
Danish Faroe Islands August 28, 2023:
A pod of around 15 Atlantic white-sided dolphins were driven towards a bay in the village of Norðragøta, north of the archipelago’s capital Tórshavn, to be fitted with a tracker. Five speed boats, whose crews banged against the edge to scare them, circled the pod and forced them towards a shallow, rocky shore.
Local researchers then drilled into the base of two dolphins’ dorsal fins as bright blood stained the clear water surrounding them.
One helpless dolphin had a probe shoved down its throat in what is believed to be an attempt to implant an “electronic pill” which monitors the mammal’s internal temperature.
“The experience was terribly traumatic. They cornered the two animals they would tag, and one had to hear the drilling and feel the panic of its pod-mate while waiting for what would happen to it next...

First whale of 2023 killed in Iceland which had at least two harpoons fired at it
After 2 months to train his crew...Loftsson fails with the first whale of 2023 which had at least two harpoons fired at it.
3 Fin whales were killed today.
Animal welfare legislation requires death of a fin whale to take less than 60 seconds to be classed as instant. During time trials this summer, Hvalur showed that the quickest time in which they can reload and fire is a minimum of 128 seconds when shooting at a static target. With two shots fired, this death is illegal under Icelandic animal welfare legislation. Whilst the second shot towards the brain prevented further suffering, this does doesn’t change the fact that this whale suffered for an unacceptably long period of time. We therefore ask that MAST undertakes an immediate investigation and that both whaling vessels are held in port until this is completed.
Whaling is inhumane, unnecessary, and remains a loss making venture by this one rich and stubborn Icelander.
🐋 Whales play a crucial role in capturing carbon through their feeding and diving habits, contributing to the growth of phytoplankton and the long-term storage of carbon in the ocean.
The rich whale slaughterer Kristjan Loftsson, whose intention is to kill 209 fin whales this year, is the owner and manager of many large companies in Iceland, especially companies with fishery products that supply worldwide.
All people from Iceland have become such worst criminals. Not one people from #Iceland can claim that she/he is not a criminal, because every #icelander has the chance and opportunity to be a voice for the whales, to demonstrate, to prevent the departure of the ships, and to stop these crimes together. Doing nothing, saying nothing, means accepting what is happening
It is now time to act, to take Icelandic products off the shelf, don't travel to Iceland.
Whaling is crime !
You can help stop whaling!
By sending an email to the Prime Minister
pmo@pmo.is
Dear Madam,
Following the landing of the first and second whale of the season we write to report a breach of the Act on Animal Welfare, 2013 No. 55.
Article 21 states that “Animals must be killed swiftly and painlessly, and where possible without other animals becoming aware of the killing. Causing the animals to experience unnecessary pain or fear shall be avoided.”
In time trials undertaken this summer, Hvalur hf demonstrated that the minimum time to reload and fire was 128 seconds – over double the time permitted. Notably this was from a stationary vessel and aiming at a static target. At sea it is highly likely that this will take significantly longer, due in part to the added complexity of taking the shot from a moving vessel onto a moving target.
We therefore are writing to request that whilst an investigation is undertaken in accordance with Articles 3 and 10 of revised regulations, that Hvalur 8 and 9 are held in port.
With kind regards.

I composed Cinematic Soundtrack "Sending Butterflies to Samuel"
Today I composed a Soundtrack "Sending Butterflies to Samuel" for Samuel Rostøl he's since 8 days in hungry strike for the fin whales and other Team Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK fighting for the fin whales in Iceland
Composer: Albi Deak
First photo of the season's inaugural fin whale was captured by our volunteer crew member : @samrostol
Despite being on day 8 of his hunger strike, his determination knows no bounds. At 3 AM, he stood at the station, enduring 8 hours of strong cold and wind to document this atrocity. 🐋

Anahita and Elissa saved the lives of 8 mayestic fin whales
When you believed in a cause, you are willing to take action, no matter the consequences 🐋🌊 The Reykjavik police knew this all too well, as they forced supporters to move further back. Many police officers were covering their faces, and they even deprived one activist, occupying the crow's nest, of their water supply, seemingly disregarding human rights. One of our volunteers, Nic, approached too closely and found herself entangled in a challenging situation...
Anahita and Elissa are living proof that individuals can achieve so much! Saving lives, inspiring globally, and shining a light on the voiceless. From our hearts, a big thank you for anchoring the boat for so long, making a real difference. 🐋🌊💙
Just 90 minutes after activists Elissa and Anahita came down from the ships, Kristjan Loftsson’s whaling vessels set to sea to hunt fin whales, proudly blasting their horns as they go.
Icelandic fin whale serial killer Kristian Loftsson sues Elissa and Anahita tried by occupying the nest on the mast to prevent Loftsson crimes at fin whales.
The activists , the heroes, did not commit crime, their intention was to prevent crime !
Iceland, Japan, Faroe Islands and Norway kill whales in a commercial way, although this is forbidden in different agreements between the international community. If someone does something that is internationally forbidden, what is that ? You know the answer and the laws too

Right now, Anahita and a Elissa are blocking Hvalur at the port
🌊 Right now, Anahita and a Elissa are blocking Hvalur at the port. These courageous activist are driving change. Authorities have confiscated one activist’s backpack and denied her access to water. Let’s rally together to put pressure on them to ensure she gets her basic needs! The boats are going nowhere despite excellent weather.
Email Iceland’s prime minister and add your voice: pmo@pmo.is
*Update: the police are already blocking emails so please tag them instead Lögreglan á höfuðborgarsvæðinu
Please email Chief of Police Stefan.eiriksson@lrh.is and ask him to provide the basic necessity of life: WATER
The police have forced supporters to move further back, many covering their faces. It’s now 10 hours since the authorities took the water supply of one of the activists.
Despite repeated requests to provide water, the police continue to refuse. This creates a dangerous situation as the effects of dehydration start to take grip.

Anahita Babaei - Climbed today on of the two whaling harpoon ships
Iceland whaling Update, September 4, 2023:
"Loftsson, beware! – activists are relentless in their determination to make you stop!"
The authorities appear uncertain as to what to do next but the number on the ground is growing with many folk turning out to show their support and solidarity for the activists, now publicly named as Elissa and Anahita.
The ship’s crew are still loading supplies but with these two in the crows nest, the boats are going nowhere despite excellent weather.
Email Iceland's prime minister and add your voice: pmo@pmo.is
My name is Anahita Babaei
and I am part of the growing group of people here in Iceland that is against whaling. We are doing what we can to stop these ships from leaving the harbor and kill up to 209 fin whales.
Right now I am in the mast of Hvalur 9 where I will be staying for as long as I can to stop the ships from going out to sea.
The reason why I am doing this is not to cause trouble for anyone directly apart from the owners of Hvalur hf. I understand though that my actions will affect other groups of people indirectly, and to them I would like to apologize in advance. The actions of the owners of Hvalur hf affect many people and so action against them will also do the same.
