America Mission Civics on Spaces: Article 3-The Judiciary

Knowledge is Empowerment. Ask about how your school-ager can get credit for reading and participating! *** Article III of the United States Constitution establishes the judicial branch of the federal government. It defines the role and structure of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Here are the key points from Article III: ==>Judicial Power: The judicial power of the United States is vested in one Supreme Court and such inferior courts as Congress may establish. This means that Congress has the authority to create other federal courts, but the Supreme Court is a fixed part of the Constitution. ==>Jurisdiction: The judicial power extends to all cases arising under the Constitution, laws of the United States, treaties, and cases affecting ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, admiralty and maritime jurisdiction, controversies to which the United States is a party, between two or more states, between a state and citizens of another state, between citizens of different states, between citizens of the same state claiming lands under grants of different states, and between a state or its citizens and foreign states, citizens or subjects. ==>Original and Appellate Jurisdiction: In cases affecting ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, and those in which a state is a party, the Supreme Court has original jurisdiction. In all other cases, it has appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with exceptions and regulations made by Congress. ==>Judges' Tenure: Judges of the Supreme Court and inferior courts hold their offices during good behavior and receive compensation that cannot be diminished during their continuance in office. This ensures judicial independence. ==> Treason: Article III also includes the definition and limitations of treason, requiring at least two witnesses to the same overt act or a confession in open court for conviction. It also limits the ways in which Congress can punish those convicted of treason. *** *** America Mission™ Community on X https://x.com/i/communities/1648389777408794648 Make America Your Mission & Amplify Your Voice https://www.americamission.com/make-america-your-mission Find out where to #ShowUpAndShare https://linktr.ee/americamission What are X Spaces? https://www.americamission.com/i/137306001/xspaces-the-new-town-halls *** A necessary evil. . .
