Advice to rookie police about some families. #youtubeshorts
Unfortunately some families have career criminals in them. I noticed during my career that said families members were a lot of times exhausted from us showing up and I don't blame them...so I did my best to be respectful to them. And obviously some people say that the family members should give the boot to the career criminal, but we don't know the story behind everyone...but don't get me wrong...they should do their best to boot out the career criminal causing so much trouble.
Are police body cameras a good thing? #youtubeshorts
In 2016, the department I worked for rolled out body cameras for us. It took some getting used to, to tag every single doggone video...especially on busy days. However, the cameras was very much worth having in my opinion. It totally eliminated people's false arguments and accusations.
But they're also good for accountability when cops do screw up, like the one who stashed people's property when she was in their house searching.
Catching burglars is fun. #youtubeshorts
I was thrilled to interview "Sgt. Steve" as he discussed stoicism but also what he does at the department. He is part of a covert operation focused on catching burglars. Catching people in the act is one of the most rewarding parts of the job of working as a police officer.

Some people should not be the police, even in recruiting crisis. #youtubeshorts
In 2020, after the horrific incident when George Floyd was killed and defund the police started, there was a mass exodus of police officers. There still are a lot of police officers leaving the profession, and departments are having a very hard time hiring enough people.
This is upsetting. But what will be very damaging is if standards for hire, are lowered.

Rookie Cop, do you want all of the barking dog calls?
It's crucial for every first responder to understand that it all starts with the dispatchers answering that 911 call before you do. They are on our team and yes, it can be frustrating when they're bad. But just like any job field, not all of them are bad. It's important to treat them right. I worked with an officer who did not treat them well, and he somehow ended up getting dispatched to the boring calls such as barking dogs. HA!
The Internet Stole Our Privacy! Take it back. #youtubeshorts
Unfortunately, the internet stole our privacy and police officers in particular are at risk of being doxed. It's a real thing. And while someone can ultimately find out where you live, lets make it difficult for them. So think of ways you can vigilant about that, but I did want to mention OfficerPrivacy.Com.
It's a do it yourself service, or they will do it for you.

Advice to rookie police about the department. #youtubeshorts
It's very crucial for new police officers to understand that you will definitely build some friendships at the department, especially if you work there for a long time with some of the same people. HOWEVER, when that day comes when you no longer work there, they will move on without you. Seriously, the department will move on just fine without you. Therefore it's crucial to foster those family and friendships outside of the profession of law enforcement.

You police department "family".
There are potential dangers of blurring professional boundaries and the importance of maintaining a healthy perspective in law enforcement.
I always emphasize the need for officers to recognize the distinctions between their professional and personal lives, as well as the potential impact on their mental well-being and decision-making.
I encourage officers to seek support outside of their immediate professional circle. There are benefits of seeking therapy, developing a diverse support network, and fostering personal interests and relationships beyond the police department.
Can't serve and protect well if you don't do this well...#youtubeshorts
This video aims to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health in policing. By encouraging open dialogue and promoting self-care practices, we can foster a healthier and more resilient law enforcement community that can better serve and protect the public.
Working as a police officer can have intense demands and high-stress nature of events that often takes a toll on officers' mental health.

Advice to rookie police. No drama. Please. #youtubeshorts
Avoid the department drama. There will unfortunately be times of gossip, backstabbing, affairs (AH!), and other stuff that is a pool of drama. Avoid it, for your sake. It's easy to get sucked in and 99% are guilty of it, especially gossip. Be aware, and stop. It's worth catching yourself, trust me.

The "WHY" in policing matters. If it's a good one. #youtubeshorts
When I was about 8 years into working as a police officer, I was pulled into an internal investigation because of the actions of another officer. It was a frustrating process even though I did nothing wrong.
I was burned out and stressed out and asked a retired police officer if this was worth it anymore because the internal department stress was worse than the street. He asked, "Why did you get into this?"
It was just the right question to ask.
AVOID this career mistake. #youtubeshorts #lawenforcement
The job of working as a police officer should never be your life. It can be really exciting when you're new to it and you can get so involved, that a few years down the road you might realize you've missed out on life or the lives of others all because your identity got wrapped up in law enforcement. It's a bad mistake, and I did that when I worked as a K9 Officer. I was crushed when I had to resign because I thought it was who I was.
When you're in a dark place...#youtubeshorts
Kevin Berthia jumped over the rail of the Golden Gate Bridge back in 2005. Fortunately, his feet landed on a cable and he stood there. Sgt. Kevin Briggs was able to listen to Kevin and then eventually got Kevin back to the other side. 8 years later they were reunited and Kevin Berthia has talked a lot about that incident and how he is doing now, also helping to bridge the gap among citizens and law enforcement personnel.

Finished "mental oil change". #youtubeshorts
I just finished another mental oil change. As a former Marine and Law Enforcement Officer, I unfortunately got diagnosed with PTSD during the careers. It's not easy, but worth it to invest in professional #mentalhealth care. So if this video encourages you to step out of a vicious cycle and make the call to a professional, then great! Do it! You've got this!

I learned something when almost killed. #youtubeshorts
June is a month that reminds me to never take a day for granted. In June of 2005 I was almost killed by a close mortar fire attack while deployed to Iraq. Fortunately and miraculously, the only damage done was some shrapnel in the HMMV tire. But I learned to never take a day for granted, because life can be taken from us instantly.
Live, and make an impact!
Can't be the Speech Police! #youtubeshorts
A police sergeant arrested a man who was protesting at a pride parade. Unless I missed something, the man did not call for violence against the group, nor did he shout things to disrupt the event. After his arrest, the charges were dropped.
If you're a police officer, please do not forget that people have the right to free speech. There are elements of a crime that have to be met in order for police to get involved.
Stuff like this made being police officer worth it!
There are a lot of good reasons to work as a police officer. However, unfortunately police are leaving the profession in large numbers because of lack of support and the anti-police rhetoric. That's not good because we need police, and we need good police.
I responded to a home invasion in progress one night and a little girl there was terrified. I did my best to say the right words to bring some comfort and peace to her. What happened six months later almost brought tears to my eyes. Moments like this are what can make the job worth it, but when it is time to go, it's time to go...just make sure it's to pursue an opportunity, not because you're just trying to run away from a negative emotion.

California banning police K9's? #youtubeshorts
Proposed California bill AB 742 is dead for this year. This bill would essentially ban the use of police K9's for apprehension and other uses. Many police chiefs stood in solidarity opposing the bill. Good for them! Correct me if I'm wrong though, if there is a US court ruling stating that the release of a police K9 to apprehend someone is considered deadly force.

Ban the Police K9’s?! Some good news about that. #youtubeshorts
Proposed California bill AB 742 was not passed. It is dead for this year. That is good news for citizens entrusting law-enforcement to keep them safe.
