Barkey takes a gander at a late 80's vehicle for Tom Selleck, who had just finished his run on the successful hit series "Magnum P.I." "Her Alibi" (1989) was supposed to be a stepping stone for Selleck, possibly leading to the small screen star making the leap to the big silver screen. Sadly, things didn't turn out that way. "Aeon Flux' (2005) proved to be a cautionary tale executives failed to take note of, and they've made the same mistakes ever since with "Star Wars", "Star Trek", and all the rest. Barkey explores more 1970's pseudoscience, this time screening a classic Bigfoot "documentary" that is almost unique. Barkey's kind of tired of Marvel movies (and who isn't?!), so he takes a look at a superhero film from Indonesia. Namely, "Valentine: The Dark Avenger" (2017), billed as the first superhero movie to feature silat, an indigenous martial art form. Estelle Linden and Matthew Settle star in this picture that's somewhat reminiscent of the CW's "Arrow"... but in a good way. This time out, Barkey reviews an interesting silent film with super-science elements, "Filibus" (1915). Here, a female supercrook matches wits with the police, and uses an airship, knockout gas, and clever disguises to commit daring robberies. Can the police stop Filibus? This one has been pushed as some kind of "deeply coded message" about transgender, feminist, or people with lesbotic tendencies... but is it really? What's actually in the film? Barkey takes on Batwoman in this one! No, not the dopey CW character, but the ORIGINAL Batwoman... sort of. This Batwoman is a Mexican wrestler, who is really a secret agent fighting to stop some evil bad guys from killing professional wrestlers in order to create their own Creature from the Black Lagoon. Goofy? You bet! It's "The Batwoman" from 1968, starring Maura Monti, and directed by Mexican-wrestlers-as-superheros stalwart René Cardona. Barkey unveils a new feature in the channel, a "Movie Pair." These are two movies that just sort of fit together and complement one another for back-to-back viewing.
