Cincinnati Eastern Eastbound Between Ancor and Afton
2022-11-21. Scouting ahead, I knew the CCET had tied down at Ancor over the weekend and was likely going to take the train waiting on the main east on Monday. Going by Ancor Monday morning, I saw them just starting the trip east.
This video captures what I estimate to be about 20 cars (I never counted it) between Ancor and Afton. This includes shots along Roundbottom Road, crossing Baldwin Road, climbing Batavia Hill at Summit Road and entering Afton Yard at Half Acre Road.
My video ends at Afton, but I know from pictures posted to facebook by Jaw Tooth, the train did continue east later in the day. You might check out Jaw Tooth's You Tube channel to see if he posted a video of this train.

Cumbres And Toltec Train Ride, June 2018
In June 2018, the family and I traveled west to visit the Grand Canyon. Worked into the travel plans was a stop at the Durango and Silverton. But wildfires in that region of the country had suspended all steam operation. So I opted to visit the other famous tourist line in the area.
This turned out to be a great experience. We rode the Cumbres and Toltec out of Chama on a one day, out and back trip to Osier, CO. The steams engines on the C&T are gorgeous. The operation is extremely well organized and efficient. And the line is above average for scenery and the views a railfan can get of the locomotive from the train. The narrow gauge track allows for tight turns, and there is comparatively little foliage next to the tracks to block your shot.
If you are in northern New Mexico or southern Colorado and looking for a railfanning experience, do check out the Cumbres and Toltec.
In addition to this video, I have published a bunch of photos from this trip to my web site. The URL is http://dlamb15.com/wo/gallery/categorylist.asp?seq=131R&usn=0

765 On The CVSR
September 18, 2021, Nickle Plate engine number 765 ran two excursions from Rockside to Indigo Lake on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR). The CVSR is located about 20 miles south of Cleveland OH, and runs regular passenger service through the Cuyahoga Valley. For more information on the CVSR, please visit their web site at https://www.cvsr.org/ (I think the video intro has a .com address, which will redirect to the .org URL. My mistake).
In this video, I combine multiple shots from the two excursions. 765 puts on a beautiful display, both visually and audibly as she fills the valley with the sounds of a by-gone era.
As a bonus, you also get several shot of the CVSR FPA-4. This unit brought up the back end of the train, and did the pulling for the return trip back to Rockside.

Didcot Railway Museum
Didcot England, August 16, 2015
In 2015 a business trip took me to England. A weekend stay allowed me some time for sight seeing and railfanning. One of my stops was the Didcot Railway Museum. The museum has a large collection of steam engines and other vintage rail equipment. In this video I have shots of British Railways 4144 and a steam powered railcar.
This trip was better documented in pictures than video, and you can see all of my pictures at http://www.dlamb15.com/wo , go to the Photo Gallery > Railfanning In England 2015.

Riding the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
Toddington, Greet, Gotherington and Cheltenham England
August 15, 2015
In August 2015, a business trip created an opportunity to do some railfanning in England. This shot is from the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. The line runs from Toddington to Cheltenham.
In this video, I hang out around the old engine house at Toddington. This includes catching a delivery of coal for the locomotives.
I then ride from Toddington south to Cheltenham and back to Toddington. I've included several minutes of footage along the English countryside, as well as passage through Greet Tunnel and a meet with the other train in service on this day.
After the trip, I hang out at Toddington and watch the other train receive service and depart for its second run of the day to Cheltenham.
This video is supplemented with a lot of photos, which can be found at...

Amtrak Cardinal: Fashionably Late
June 3, 2016 @ Glendale, OH
The morning of Friday, June 3, 2016, I was on my way to work in the Tri County area of Cincinnati. I decided to drive through Glendale. Red blocks restricted northbound trains, and left me little hope of seeing a train before I had to scurry off to work. Please to see the headlight of a southbound, I never expected this little gem.

CCET Left Behind
January 16, 2017
On Martin Luther King Day, 2017, the CET moved one of their engines out to a siding in Sardinia where they could do a little more maintenance work on the engine. This video capture the CET engines running light out and back to make the drop off.

CCET Westbound
September 30, 2016, Newtown, OH
Coming home from work in late September, saw the CCET crossing Beechwood Rd. Didn't get ahead of it until Mt. Carmel Rd, then again in Newtown. God bless mobile phones with decent cameras... these captures wouldn't have been possible ten years ago.

A day off from work gave me the opportunity to railfan the CCET. I found them east of Sardinia with a short string of tank cars. This video follows the train back from Sardinia to Newtown.

Switching Huhtamaki
January 4, 2019, Afton OH
January 4, 2019 - After hearing the Cincinnati Eastern signal for a nearby crossings from my home, I caught up to them at Huhtamaki in Afton. First live action I've seen on the line in nearly a year, first time seeing the new U-Boat. They switched for about an hour before heading west.

CSX: Overpowered
December 8, 2016 @ Glendale, OH
On December 8, 2016, blocks at Glendale, OH were set for a northbound train. Nothing unusual for this busy CSX main north of Cincinnati. But as the train approached, it wasn't hard to see this was something different. 12 units, running light, headed north.

Holiday Railfanning
December 22 & 29, 2020 @ Along Peavine between Afton and Winchester.
Christmas vacation is my best opportunity each year to do some railfanning. This year, I was lucky enough to catch the CCET on two different occasions. The first was December 22, 2020 switching the Mt Carmel Industry and Huhtamaki. A week later, I caught up with 2414 at Winchester Grain, and was able to follow them all the way back to Afton.
This video captures action at fourteen different locations along the Peavine, giving you a good feel of what the line looks like in winter between Afton and Winchester (and actually a little beyond in both directions).
Hope you enjoy. Thanks for watching.

2008 Cass Highlights
September 28, 2008 @ Cass, WV
In 2008 I joined some railfan friends on a trip to Cass, West Virginia. It was my first visit to the famous site, and it did not disappoint. This video includes some of the highlights of that trip.

Two Hoppers For BZak
Time off for Christmas gave me a chance to railfan. The C&E delivered two covered hoppers to BZak. If you are not familiar with this operation, there is a conveyer for unloading bulk materials next to the main. The entire operation takes place on the mainline... only possible on a short line.
Material is offloaded to a front loader. Takes less than five minutes to fill the bucket. Bucket is dumped in a waiting dump truck. Three buckets fill the truck.

Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Cab Ride
November 5, 2017 - Cumberland, Maryland
I visited the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad on November 5, 2017. The WMSRR offers one or two cab rides per run. I've ridden many trains from a passenger car, but my opportunities to ride in the cab have been limited. It was an opportunity I could not pass on. This video captures the best moments of the ride to Frostburg and back.

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad - 1702 Excursion
September 10, 2016 @ Dillsboro, NC
On September 10, 2016, the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad offered a railfan photo excursion featuring the recently refurbished 1702. The all day trip left Dillsboro, NC at 8:00 AM, running deep into the Nantahala Gorge. The trip included two passes across the Fontana Lake Trestle, three photo runbys (all shown in this video), the engines from the movie "The Fugitive" and more scenic views that can be captured in a video.

For The Love Of Trains
February 14, 2016 @ Rochelle, IL
What could be better than spending Valentines Day trackside. Business had me out of town in February 2016. I had to stay the weekend, but was not working that Sunday. Rochelle was only an hour away. So what better place to spend a snowy afternoon.
I'd like to tell you I roughed it out in the snow for several hours, but truth is my trusty rental car was by my side the whole day, and only popped out with the camera when a train came by. Which you will see was still often enough to keep me chilled.

One Day At Rochelle, Illinois
March 19, 2011 @ Rochelle, IL
In 2011 while on a business trip, I had a Saturday free to do some railfanning. I wasn't far from Rochelle and decided to take advantage of the opportunity. This video documents one random day of action Rochelle Railroad Park. By the time the sun set, 18 trains had passed in about a nine hour period.

Switching Action At Longworth Hall
September 16, 2020 @ Cincinnati, OH
With some time to kill on September 16, 2020, I stopped in the parking lot at Longworth Hall. As I was sitting there, the track-mobile pulled a cut of gons on to the siding at the edge of the parking lot. As something out of the ordinary, I decided to record it. As I was recording, I got the bonus of a CSX freight coming off the bridge and into Queensgate. A short video, hope you enjoy.
