This was mom‘s favorite song about a rose somebody found pressed between the pages of a book, and it brought back all kinds of memories."
Another country folk classic to make up the last song (10th) in Maxie Kinney Music Vol. 3.

Song: In the Lonely Night (Album: Vol. 3)
Songwriting is often storytelling, as it is with this song about a lonely woman longing for her man who was lost at sea, so she went to extremes to be reunited with him. Maxie wrote the story in the late 80s as she sat on the beach.
Maxie:
"The story behind this song is during a walk along the beach at night someone spotted a lady gracefully kick off her shoes as she walked by then she walked into the sea, as she was longing for her man who was lost at sea."

Song: The Reason (Album: Vol. 3)
Maxie: "Well here it is, The Reason, written in the late 1980s, put in the drawer and left. Never tried pitching this song or getting it out. It was produced by Bill Kinney and sang by me and I did the backup and all that -- hope everybody enjoys it :-)"
Here is a great song that showcases the talented country side of Maxie and the talent of Bill Kinney with his guitar playing and ear for sound, even containing the lovesick themes of a broken heart and relationship woes. There is a good ending though and that is all we can ask for in a song from the heart. The video was created by Maxie recently.

Song: Train Train Train (Album: Vol. 3)
Written in the late 80s by sisters and musical partners Maxie Kinney and Inge Goodson, "Train Train Train" describes one woman's longing to stop her lover from leaving on a train and being lost from her forever.
Anyone who has been in a romantic relationship understands that feeling of wanting to make it right, to make up for some mistake to get the relationship back on track towards the bright future it once promised, especially when it means stopping them from leaving for somewhere far away.
This was recorded at the Brentwood Studios in Nashville, ; Inge is singing lead while Maxie is singing back-up harmony. The fitting video was created by Maxie recently.

Song: Small Town Blues (Album: Vol. 3)
"Small Town Blues" is one of the most famous of Maxie's songs, co-written by her sister and music partner Inge Goodson. One of the following versions ("Alabama Blue") of this song was sold to a recording producer, which was co-written by 2 other writers and cut by a few different artists -- giving Maxie 33% of recording rights and a few royalty checks over the years; yet for true fans of Maxie and Inge's music, this version and the second "Country Blue" are the best.
This song tells the sorrowful tale of a young, small-town couple broken up by the allure of the big city life; the boyfriend next door whom she grew up with and planned to be married to decided to leave the small town to live in the big city, leaving his childhood sweetheart with a broken heart in a small town -- giving her a bad case of small-town blues. The melody and vocal expression helps us feel the woeful pain this broken-hearted girl is going through -- the mark of a genuine singer/songwriter.
This song and recording were created around the mid-1980s; the talented Spike Jones produced it. Inge Goodson is singing lead vocals while Maxie sings backup in an exceptional performance. The video was created by Maxie, and the picture is of Maxie in the early 1980s when she was in her early 20s.

Song: Gambling for Gold (Album: Vol. 2)
This is an interesting story Maxie tells us through song, based on the inspiration of her great-grandfather who lived in Mississippi and happened to be a gambler; he died of tuberculosis; Maxie explains "What I knew of his story I wanted to put in a song."
With some interesting details filled in and changed, "Gambling for Gold" tells a tale of Americana, the Old West variety, with guns a-blazing, gambling, and gold -- remember, there was Annie Oakley. In this version, Spike Jones helped with the production (incl. guitar) and Inge Goodson sang back-up in another quality and fun effort from this familiar ensemble of talented musicians and songwriters. Recorded in the early 90s. The fitting song art was created by Maxie Kinney.

Song: Captain Hook (Album: Vol. 2)
The early 90s was a prolific time of creativity for Maxie and her sister Inge Goodson, as this was when the dynamic musical pair was living in Tennessee and pitching their songs to producers in hopes of catching their ears to promote the next big hit. The unique and catchy tune Captain Hook tickled many ears and had some bites, yet never did get the big bite it deserved. The good part is the tune is preserved as it was intended, a short and sweet melody telling a woeful story many people can relate to, heartbreak in a romantic relationship. Maxie wrote the melody and sang backup vocals while Inge wrote the lyrics and sang lead in one of their best efforts. The talented Spike Jones produced the song and Maxie created the cover art in this inspiring team effort.

Song: I'm Coming Home (Album: Vol. 2)
The theme of coming home continues, as Maxie shares another classic song from the 90s that happens to relate well to the trucker's protest in Canada and around the world. While truckers and freedom lovers around the world are currently fighting for the rights of regular citizens from tyrannical rulers, they also want to say "I'm Coming Home" to their communities and loved ones when their protest is over and their cause is victorious -- we pray for this outcome.
The talented Jimmy Crokett sang and produced this version of a tune shared by "Guitar Picken Man"; Jimmy also sang and produced "Life Comes Life Goes", both can be found in Volume 2 of Maxie's music. The song picture was created by Maxie recently.

Song: Life Comes Life Goes (Album: Vol. 2)
In a world of superficial influences, "words of wisdom are more precious than gold"; that is part of the message in this meaningful song, as the listener is asked to slow down from the bustle of modern life and grab hold of those valuable things in our lives we may be taking for granted. Maxie wrote this song in the early 90s while going through the nice one-horse town of Shaniko, Oregon. Here is another downhome country favorite written by Maxie Kinney as she reflects through a beautiful oldtime melody and heartfelt lyrics about appreciating the truly good things in life, asking the listener to not take for granted the blessings out our own back doors. Maxie expains: " Dale Burie sang and produced this for me I met him at the Broken Spoke in Nashville what a great guy too. Forget also all the wonderful people I have met. Anyway this will be the next song I really liked this and remember when I wrote it down in Tennessee, thinking how lucky I was to live in Oregon."

Song: Come on Home (Album: Vol. 2)
Here is a powerful song that tempts the listener to shed a tear, as it touches on the sad goodbyes we all have to face in this temporary existence to those we love; this uplifting song also touches on trusting in Jesus when He calls us home and how important it is to love our family and friends like there is no guarantee of tomorrow.
Maxie wrote this song after experiencing her own mother passing away in 1999, Maxine Bex; Maxie was living in Tennessee for the second time after coming back home to Oregon in the early 90s until around 1998. Not long after her close and loving mother went to be with the Lord, Maxie moved back to Oregon the second time and has been here since.
Jim Sales did a great job in producing and singing "Come on Home" as Maxie wrote it. The picture is one of a joyful Maxine Bex enjoying a nice sunny day in Central Oregon with family, a good representation of her natural character. Bless her soul, she is well remembered.

Song: Out West in Oregon (Album: Vol. 1)
The journey of an artist is a unique path of ups and downs, questions and answers, expressed through art. In this case, Maxie writes a song about missing her home state of Oregon, specifically Central and Eastern Oregon. Her music journey took her all the way to Nashville, Tennessee, in part to write this song, which ended up being a prelude to a future move back to Oregon years later.
In this heartfelt song from the early 90s, Maxie is singing backup while her sister Inge is singing lead with a song that touched both their native Oregonian hearts. Although the Bex sisters left Oregon together to move to Tennessee, Inge decided to stay and still remains there, while Maxie is back in Oregon living close to where horses still run wild. The talented musical duo still works together in plotting their musical journeys to this day.
Maxie: "Out West...I wrote in Tennessee cause I was homesick so bad. I remember playing it at a writers night and someone made the comment, why are you wasting your talent writing about Oregon, I just smiled and said because it came from my heart and that's what I do, I write from my heart:)"
This song was produced by Max T Barnes in Nashville, TN.
