After installing fence sonotubes & removing some older fence sections, we mixed a batch of Portland style cement mix to fill in the sonotubes. The next phase will be the installation of the fence post steel brace supports.

I'll be able reattach my Kiwi vines now, as the poor plants spent a few months spread out on the ground. The project continues, but going section by section, in order to maintain a level of privacy.

I finally found the time to harvest my small crop of garlic today. 4 different varieties: Brenda (the largest of the 4), Georgia fire, Musique & Romanian red. Mostly smaller varieties. Approximately 175 bulbs grown on a tiny urban patch of soil (as shown here)..Drying period next. Can't wait to try them out soon!

Up north in the country this weekend. Here's a beautiful example of a naturalized Knotweed plant (aka Giant Fleece plant - latin: Persicaria polymorpha), that I planted 5-6 years ago. This is a non-invasive species (NOT a Japanese Knotweed!) and attracts tons of indigenous pollinator friends, plus repels animals such as deer 🦌 and rabbits 🐇.

I found these fascinating creatures 🐜🐜🐜 milling about on a patio on a 🔥 summer day. Thousands of ants!

Different varieties of Hosta populate this piece of land in the city. I baptized it The Hosta Farm. The land could be used in a more productive way though.

Wild and cultivar raspberries, bleeding hearts, False spirea and black currants make up this tough team of plants grow on a rough piece of terrain.

2nd harvest since early May of Shiitake mushrooms 🍄🍄🍄

Shiitake mushroom harvest in early May in a Laurentian location. These are basically rescue mushroom logs that weren't producing after they were initially inoculated 3 years ago - stacked on our city property. Out of desperation, I moved the logs up north in the Laurentians at a family property, and the Shiitake fruited last Spring, and now this May too. Never say never!

A recent Spring trek in the Laurentian woods; discovering swamp areas filled with patches of melting ice and snow, mosses, mushrooms and other surprises. The forest is waking up!

After cuttings were harvested from from black currant shrub stems & planted into pots, the cuttings were then transplanted a few months later into a temporary nursery bed, where the cuttings will Winter over until the following Spring. The goal is to nurse the cuttings until they reach the size of a small shrub for future use in other planting situations (e.g. for planting in fruit tree guilds or any other landscape and garden situation).
