"UnMoved" Acts 20:17-24
While in Miletus, the apostle Paul calls together the elders of the church of Ephesus in order to share his heart with them. He reminds them of how he lived before them, serving the Lord with humility, with many tears and trials by the plotting of the Jews. He tells them how he held nothing back by preaching the truth to them, yes, even the truths that possibly could/would offend some of his hearers because he knew the importance of teaching the WHOLE counsel of God.
Paul, as you can imagine, spoke passionately to them as this was his farewell address to the Ephesians. He knew that where he was headed next, chains and tribulations awaited him and that they would see his face no more. Yet, knowing what awaited him, Paul was UnMoved. Why? Because 1) he didn’t count his life dear to himself and 2) he was determined to finish his race unto the glory of God.
Today, we live in a world filled with uncertainty. Chaos surrounds us. Politics are flaring with hate and bias. Misinformation and disinformation abounds in our news media outlets causing Christians, in particular, to be targeted. Why? Because 2 Tim 3:12 tells us, “Yes, andall who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
If your desire is to live a godly life, know that persecution awaits you. But fear not because our hope and security is in Christ Jesus. Like Paul, may we, too, say “None of these things move me.”

The Ephesian Elders Exhorted
Acts 20:17-24
17From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24[c]But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my [d]race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

"Don't Fall Asleep In Church. You Could Die!" Acts 20:1-16
While on his 3rd Missionary Journey, the apostle Paul arrived in Troas where he spoke to the congregation until midnight. Among his audience was a young man named Eutychus who was sitting in a window on the 3rd story. As he was listening, he fell asleep (probably due to all the oil lamps that were burning in the room causing heat and fumes), fell out of the window and died. Paul, not wasting a single moment, rushed over to him and was used by God to bring him back to life.
In this teaching, we see that Paul didn’t rebuke the young man for falling asleep in a 3rd story window, which obviously was a dangerous and careless thing to do. Rather, he ministered to him by embracing him and bringing him back to life.
Are there people in your life today who you tend to get angry at for doing things you deem as careless or even dumb? Rather than getting upset and angry at them, perhaps you can learn a lesson from the heart of the apostle Paul who, instead of being upset, he chose to uplift this young man in the midst of his dire circumstance.

ACTS CHAPTER 20:1-16
Journeys In Greece
1After the uproar had ceased, Paul called the disciples to himself, embraced them, and departed to go to Macedonia. 2Now when he had gone over that region and encouraged them with many words, he came to Greece 3and stayed three months. And when the Jews plotted against him as he was about to sail to Syria, he decided to return through Macedonia. 4And Sopater of Berea accompanied him to Asia—also Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus of Asia. 5These men, going ahead, waited for us at Troas. 6But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
Ministering at Troas
7Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. 8There were many lamps in the upper room where [a]they were gathered together. 9And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. 10But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, “Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.” 11Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed. 12And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted.
From Troas to Miletus
13Then we went ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, there intending to take Paul on board; for so he had [b]given orders, intending himself to go on foot. 14And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene. 15We sailed from there, and the next day came opposite Chios. The following day we arrived at Samos and stayed at Trogyllium. The next day we came to Miletus. 16For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he would not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hurrying to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the Day of Pentecost.

"Mostly Peaceful Protest" Acts 19:21-41
Do you remember one of the recent riots in the U.S. where the reporter said that the riot was “fiery but mostly peaceful” while a building was burning behind him? How could such a thing be? The answer? He was a telling a lie in order to push a certain narrative, a lie that would cause much confusion and wrath to his hearers.
In this teaching, we see another man by the name of Demetrius who also used a lie in order to push a certain narrative, which also resulted in an angry, riotous, confused mob. They were so full of wrath they they arrested 2 innocent men, Gaius and Aristarchus (v29) and were about to put them through an illegal trial. What a mess! But God…comes to their rescue through an unusual, unexpected source.

ACTS CHAPTER 19:21-41
The Riot at Ephesus
21When these things were accomplished, Paul purposed in the Spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.” 22So he sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, but he himself stayed in Asia for a time.
23And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way. 24For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of [e]Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen. 25He called them together with the workers of similar occupation, and said: “Men, you know that we have our prosperity by this trade. 26Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands. 27So not only is this trade of ours in danger of falling into disrepute, but also the temple of the great goddess Diana may be despised and [f]her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.”
28Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!” 29So the whole city was filled with confusion, and rushed into the theater with one accord, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul’s travel companions. 30And when Paul wanted to go in to the people, the disciples would not allow him. 31Then some of the [g]officials of Asia, who were his friends, sent to him pleading that he would not venture into the theater. 32Some therefore cried one thing and some another, for the assembly was confused, and most of them did not know why they had come together. 33And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander motioned with his hand, and wanted to make his defense to the people. 34But when they found out that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for about two hours, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”
35And when the city clerk had quieted the crowd, he said: “Men of Ephesus, what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple guardian of the great goddess [h]Diana, and of the image which fell down from [i]Zeus? 36Therefore, since these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and do nothing rashly. 37For you have brought these men here who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of [j]your goddess. 38Therefore, if Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a [k]case against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. 39But if you have any other inquiry to make, it shall be determined in the lawful assembly. 40For we are in danger of being [l]called in question for today’s uproar, there being no reason which we may give to account for this disorderly gathering.” 41And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.

"The Seven Sons of Sceva" Acts 19:11-20
Demon possession is real. It’s just as real today as it was in the apostle Paul’s day. The apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 6:12 saying, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
In this teaching, we talk about the 2 different realms of existence: the physical and the spiritual by examining the case of the seven sons of Sceva who tried to cast out demons “in the name of Jesus whom Paul preaches”. Long story short, it didn’t turn out well for them because they were trying to counterfeit the genuine faith of the apostle Paul.
And the result? They were overpowered by the demon possessed man, beaten up and stripped of their clothes, which ended up in them fleeing the house naked. What a mess! But in the end, God was glorified and the Word of the Lord grew and prevailed.

ACTS CHAPTER 19:11-20
Miracles Glorify Christ
11Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. 13Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, [a]“We [b]exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.
15And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
16Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, [c]overpowered them, and prevailed against [d]them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. 18And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. 19Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.

"The Missing Piece" Acts 19:1-10
Have you ever put together a puzzle only to find a piece that is missing? How important is that missing piece to the satisfaction of the completion of that puzzle? Or how about yeast to a baker or a hammer to a construction worker? There are certain things in life that are necessary pieces to ensure a successful conclusion.
Such is the case for the believer. There are many who have a missing piece in their walk with Jesus. It’s called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. In this study, we talk about the triune relationship a believer has with the Holy Spirit by examining the 3 Greek prepositions that are laid out in the scriptures.
In John 14:17, Jesus said,
17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with (“para” in the Greek) you and will be in (“en”) you.
Prior to salvation, the Spirit was with “para” you, drawing you to a relationship with Christ. But once you made Jesus your Lord, the Spirit dwells in “en” you, making you the temple of the Holy Spirit.
But then then Jesus followed up in Acts 1:8 saying,
8But you shall receive power (“dunamais”) when the Holy Spirit has come upon (“epi”) you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
This is the 3rd preposition that describes that missing piece for many believers. The word “upon” is the Greek word “epi” and it describes a filling to “overflowing”. And the Greek word for “power” is “dunamais”, which describes a dynamic power that will overflow from the life of the believer.
Have you been baptized with the “dunamais” power of the Holy Spirit? If not, tune in to this sermon while asking the Spirit to speak to your heart in this matter.

ACTS CHAPTER 19:1-10
1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
3And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”
So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”
5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7Now the men were about twelve in all.
8And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God. 9But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. 10And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

"The Simplicity of Discipleship" Acts 18:23-28
2 things that are often more heavily emphasized one over the other in the life of the believer are evangelism and discipleship. But scripture commissions us to occupy ourselves with both.
In Mark 16:15, Jesus said “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
He also said in Matt 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…”
In this study, we focus in on the importance of discipleship as Aquila & Priscilla hear the preaching of a man named Apollos who was eloquent, mighty in the scriptures, instructed in the way of the Lord, fervent in spirit and who taught accurately the things of the Lord.
But…he only knew the baptism of John, meaning, his message was incomplete. As a result, they tactfully took him aside and discipled him by teaching him “the way of God more accurately.” There was no fanfare or agreements to sign. The process was simple and effective.
Are you sharing your faith with others? If so, that’s fantastic. But how are you doing in the area of discipleship? It’s imperative that we take the time to invest in others because by doing both, we are fulfilling the commission of Jesus.

ACTS CHAPTER 18:23-28
PAUL’S THIRD MISSIONARY JOURNEY BEGINS
23After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
Ministry of Apollos
24Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

The Power of God's Promises - Acts Chapter 18:18-22
When life hits us hard, it's easy to want to quit. We've all been there. And in chapter 18 of Acts, the Apostle Paul was there as well. He was afraid (v9) and perhaps even at the point of wanting to quit. But God makes a promise to him (v10) that would propel him new heights of confidence & endurance, resulting in a long & fruitful ministry in Corinth (v11 & v18).
In this teaching, we see the result of the power of God's promises upon a life that is willing to trust and obey in Jesus Christ. Perhaps you're feeling anxious about situations in your life. If so, consider these 5 promises of God:
1. THE PROMISE OF PROVISIONS (Philippians 4:19)
"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
2. THE PROMISE OF STRENGTH (Isaiah 40:31)
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
3. THE PROMISE OF PROTECTION (Isaiah 43:2)
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you."
4. THE PROMISE OF HOPE (1 Cor 2:9)
"But as it is written: 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'”
5. THE PROMISE OF PEACE (John 16:33)
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

ACTS CHAPTER 18:18-22
18 So Paul still remained a good while. Then he took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow. 19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to stay a longer time with them, he did not consent, 21 but took leave of them, saying, “must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.” And he sailed from Ephesus.
22 And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up and greeted the church, he went down to Antioch.

"Forgetting The Past" New Years Eve 2023
The past can be a powerful thing, so much so that left unaddressed, it can have a way of holding us hostage. If you’re like me, there are things about your past that you would love to erase from the halls of memory so it can no longer come back up to haunt you.
I imagine that must’ve been the way Lot felt. Here was a man with a very colored past, to say the least! We’re told in Genesis 13 that he lifted his eyes and “saw” Sodom (v10), "chose" Sodom (v11) "pitched his tent" toward Sodom (v12) and then became a resident of Sodom (14:12).
And it didn’t end there because in chapter 19:1, we find Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom, meaning that he had risen to the ranks of an authority figure within that city. And tragically, the events that took place under his watch would be enough for any man to want to hang his head in utter defeat & failure.
But here’s the good news. In 2 Peter 2:7-8, Peter refers to Lot as “righteous Lot”. Why? Because of God’s immeasurable grace & mercy. Even though Lot did some unspeakable things, God’s grace & mercy allowed him to rise above his past to become the “righteous Lot” that Peter talks about.
The apostle Paul, who also had a colored past, wrote in Philippians 3:13-14 that he was determined to “forget those things behind” and reaching forward “toward the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
This is the power and wonder of God’s grace. Whatever your past, know that His grace is sufficient and that the blood of Jesus cleanses you of your sins if you’ll choose to repent and follow Him. Don’t allow your past to define your future. Be forgiven and set free in Jesus as you enter into 2024.

GENESIS 13:10-13
10 And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. 11 Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.
GENESIS 14:12
12 They also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
GENESIS 19:1-38
1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground. 2 And he said, “Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.”
And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”
3 But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
4 Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. 5 And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”
6 So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, 7 and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! 8 See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”
9 And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to [a]stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door. 10 But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. 11 And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.
Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed
12 Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place! 13 For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.”
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
15 When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” 16 And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. 17 So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that [b]he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be [c]destroyed.”
18 Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords! 19 Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die. 20 See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.”
21 And he said to him, “See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken. 22 Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there.”
Therefore the name of the city was called [d]Zoar.
23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar. 24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He [e]overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord. 28 Then he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain; and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace. 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt.
The Descendants of Lot
30 Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave. 31 Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the [f]lineage of our father.” 33 So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
34 It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the [g]lineage of our father.” 35 Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
36 Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. 37 The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. 38 And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.

Christmas Eve At Truth Church Calvary 2023
The prophet Isaiah prophesied about the coming Christ some 800 years prior to Jesus' first advent in Isaiah chapter 9 to give hope to fallen man. But that was just the beginning. The 2nd advent of Christ is yet to come where He will setup His kingdom on earth to rule & reign with perfect governance.
Till then, wars and rumors of war will continue to exist. Today, the talk of civil war and even WWIII have become prevalent! Trials & tribulations will continue to be ever so present. Fears, anxieties & stress will continue to press upon humanity. But the time is coming when all wrongs will be righted as the Prince of Peace comes again to rule with absolute perfection.
In this study, we look at the true source of our hope, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who is coming back soon. And when he does, all the redeemed will rejoice as never before. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Isaiah 9:1-6 (NKJV)
1 Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed,
As when at first He lightly esteemed
The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
And afterward more heavily oppressed her,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
In Galilee of the Gentiles.
2 The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined.
3 You have multiplied the nation
And [a]increased its joy;
They rejoice before You
According to the joy of harvest,
As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden
And the staff of his shoulder,
The rod of his oppressor,
As in the day of Midian.
5 For every warrior’s [b]sandal from the noisy battle,
And garments rolled in blood,
Will be used for burning and fuel [c]of fire.
6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

MARK CHAPTER 16
1 Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. 7 But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going [a]before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.”
8 So they went out [b]quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord
9 [c]Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.
Jesus Appears to Two Disciples
12 After that, He appeared in another form to two of them as they walked and went into the country. 13 And they went and told it to the rest, but they did not believe them either.

"From Fear To Faith" part 2 Acts Chapter 18:8-17
Paul's arrival in Corinth was accompanied by "fear & trembling" (1 Cor 2:3). And understandably so as he & Barnabas were imprisoned & beaten in Philippi (Acts 16:23-24) and had just evaded arrest in Thessalonica (Acts 17:5-9), not to mention all the other times of being beaten, stoned, and arrested during his 1st Missionary Journey. The threats on his life were very real. And Paul certainly had his moments of fear.
In this second installment of our 2 part series, Paul graduates from fear to faith. How? By hearing from God whose promise of His presence was enough to bolster his faith.
Are you hearing from God today? Are you in His Word & devoting time to prayer, fellowship & sharing your faith? Through our intentionality of exercising spiritual disciplines, we too can move from fear to faith!

ACTS CHAPTER 18:1-17
After these things Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth. 2 And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome); and he came to them. 3 So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers. 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.
5 When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled [a]by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. 6 But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” 7 And he departed from there and entered the house of a certain man named [b]Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue. 8 Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.
9 Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.” 11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12 When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the [c]judgment seat, 13 saying, “This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”
14 And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you. 15 But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.” 16 And he drove them from the judgment seat. 17 Then [d]all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. But Gallio took no notice of these things.

"From Fear To Faith" (part 1) Acts Chapter 18:1-7
Paul's arrival in Corinth was accompanied by "fear & trembling" (1 Cor 2:3). And understandably so as he & Barnabas were imprisoned & beaten in Philippi (Acts 16:23-24) and had just evaded arrest in Thessalonica (Acts 17:5-9), not to mention all the other times of being beaten, stoned, and arrested during his 1st Missionary Journey. The threats on his life were very real. And Paul certainly had his moments of fear.
In this chapter, we read of one of those moments of being in fear. But after hearing from God, his faith is restored, and fear is conquered. Are you hearing from God today? Are you in His Word & devoting time to prayer, fellowship & sharing your faith? Through our intentionality of exercising spiritual disciplines, we too can move from fear to faith!

"Paul's Sermon On Mars Hill" Acts Chapter 17:22-34
Did you know that every person, yes, even the believer, has an appointment with Jesus to be judged? The Bible talks about 2 distinct judgments that all people (past, present & future) face. Which appointment will be yours?
In this teaching, we talk about God's greatness, God's goodness, God's Government, God's glory and God's Grace. I pray that you are challenged & blessed by this message.

ACTS CHAPTER 17:22-34
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of the [i]Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; 23 for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:
TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one [j]blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. 30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”
32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, “We will hear you again on this matter.” 33 So Paul departed from among them. 34 However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

American Idols - Acts Chapter 17:16-21
When the apostle Paul arrived in Athens, he was provoked by all the idolatry in the city, so much so that it moved him to action. In this study, we discuss the modern idolatry that has plagued our nation and the commission upon our lives as believers to stand for truth by living according to the truth of God's Word. I pray that this message stirs your heart as Paul's heart was stirred.

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was [e]given over to idols. 17 Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. 18 [f]Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, “What does this [g]babbler want to say?”
Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.
19 And they took him and brought him to the [h]Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? 20 For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean.” 21 For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

Acts Chapter 17:5-15
7 Jason has [c]harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king—Jesus.” 8 And they troubled the crowd and the rulers of the city when they heard these things. 9 So when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
Ministering at Berea
10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more [d]fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men. 13 But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the crowds. 14 Then immediately the brethren sent Paul away, to go to the sea; but both Silas and Timothy remained there. 15 So those who conducted Paul brought him to Athens; and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed.
