"UnMoved" Acts 20:17-24

While in Miletus, the apostle Paul calls together the elders of the church of Ephesus in order to share his heart with them. He reminds them of how he lived before them, serving the Lord with humility, with many tears and trials by the plotting of the Jews. He tells them how he held nothing back by preaching the truth to them, yes, even the truths that possibly could/would offend some of his hearers because he knew the importance of teaching the WHOLE counsel of God.

Paul, as you can imagine, spoke passionately to them as this was his farewell address to the Ephesians. He knew that where he was headed next, chains and tribulations awaited him and that they would see his face no more. Yet, knowing what awaited him, Paul was UnMoved. Why? Because 1) he didn’t count his life dear to himself and 2) he was determined to finish his race unto the glory of God.

Today, we live in a world filled with uncertainty. Chaos surrounds us. Politics are flaring with hate and bias. Misinformation and disinformation abounds in our news media outlets causing Christians, in particular, to be targeted. Why? Because 2 Tim 3:12 tells us, “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”

If your desire is to live a godly life, know that persecution awaits you. But fear not because our hope and security is in Christ Jesus. Like Paul, may we, too, say “None of these things move me.”

The Ephesian Elders Exhorted
Acts 20:17-24
17 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18 And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19 serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20 how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 [c]But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my [d]race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
