You only had to be 14 to enter and it was open until 5 am. It was owned by Eddie Nash, one of the most notorious gangsters in the history of California, who was also allegedly responsible for The Wonderland Murders. A mysterious phone call that surfaced in 2021 described the horrific and shady things that went on behind the scenes at the Odyssey.

In late 1980, an aspiring actress named Valerie McDonald disappeared in San Francisco. A man had promised her a role in a Dustin Hoffman movie filming locally, and hadn't been seen since she left her apartment with the man. From there, the case went crazy. It was learned her apartment was managed by Phillip Arthur Thompson and John Gordon Abbott, two hardened criminals who'd just bee released from San Quentin prison. Turns out that John Gordon Abbott and Phillip Arthur Thompson had major connections to the CIA and FBI, including working on President Nixon's re-election committee. When more dead bodies started turning up, police feared McDonald was the victim of a serial killer or a satanic cult. In the years since, there has even been speculation that Phillip Arthur Thompson was none other than the infamous Zodiac Killer. This is one of the strangest murder cases of the 1980s.

Cambrian Genomics was possibly the most insane Silicon Valley startup ever. Led by CEO Austen Heinz, it was a biotechnology startup that let anyone use DNA editing technology to create entirely new strands of DNA. After you created your DNA, Cambrian Genomics could create a living, breathing creature from the strand you created. According to Cambrian Genomics founder Austen Heinz, this DNA editing technology could be used to bring back dinosaurs and other extinct animals. He predicted people would use the software to design their babies before birth in the future. The technology could be used in a variety of genetic experiments, and could even be used to create mutant creatures. Many thought this DNA editing technology could be the most powerful technology in the history of mankind. But then Cambrian Genomics came to a tragic and mysterious end. In late 1985, the Gander plane crash occurred in Canada. 256 people died in the crash — 248 US servicemen and 8 crew — making it the worst air disaster in US military history. October 8, 1871, was one of the craziest nights in the history of the world. Most have heard of the Great Chicago Fire, but there were also a series of other absolutely massive fires that occurred that night, hundreds of miles away, at the exact same time as the Great Chicago Fire. The Great Peshtigo Fire in Wisconsin and The Great Michigan Fire each burnt over a million acres of land at the same time the Great Chicago Fire was happening.
