WNBA GOAT CYNTHIA COOPER-DYKE
Cynthia Cooper-Dyke (born April 14, 1963, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.) is an American basketball player who was the first Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). In the WNBA’s inaugural season (1997), Cooper-Dyke led the league in scoring while leading her team, the Houston Comets, to the championship. She was named MVP of both the regular season and the playoffs that year
Cooper was raised in the Watts section of Los Angeles. She began playing organized basketball at age 16 and quickly took to the sport. She earned a scholarship to the University of Southern California, where she played in the shadow of Cheryl Miller while helping the team to national championships in 1983 and 1984. After college Cooper played professionally in Europe, primarily for a team in Parma, Italy, where she blossomed into a potent scorer and a tenacious defender. She was a member of the 1988 U.S. national team that won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul.
BBy the end of the WNBA’s inaugural season, Cooper had established herself as the league’s first great player. Along with star teammates Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson, Cooper led the Comets to titles in 1998, 1999, and 2000, each time being recognized as the MVP of the playoffs. She was named the league MVP for the second time in 1998. Cooper retired in 2000 and became the head coach of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury the following year. In 2001 she also married Brian Dyke, and she had twins the following year. She returned to playing basketball in 2003 and permanently retired from the game in 2004 with WNBA career per-game averages of 21 points, 4.9 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.56 steals.

Angel Reese & Caitlin Clark … There is NO BEEF!
After last weekend WNBA ALL STAR Game which featured Team USA and the WNBA All stars which both Clark and Reese were Gina teammates.
Real basketball fans understand the competition between players but the last 3 months since both these rookies came to the WNBA it seems like the new fans of the fam didn’t understand that you weee the ONES TAKING SIDES whereas these 2 players have nothing but mutual respect for each other as athletes.
Hopefully the rhetoric and nasty tones will disappear since many learned about the WNBA and seen there are even great players in the WNBA.

WNBA All-Star Game: Arike does it again, Clark and Reese help…
PHOENIX — Breanna Stewart summoned her inner Yogi Berra after Team WNBA upset Team USA at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night.
“It was like a little bit of a déjà vu feeling, honestly,” Stewart said.
Saturday unfolded in an eerily similar way to the 2021 All-Star Game in Las Vegas: Team WNBA pulled off an eight-point win again, 117-109 this time. Arike Ogunbowale led all scorers, this time with a WNBA All-Star Game-record 34 points. And Ogunbowale won MVP. Again.
This year’s WNBA All-Star Game was part of a weekend that rewrote the record books. It started with Allisha Gray’s historic double win in the skills challenge and 3-point contest on Friday night to Ogunbowale’s starring role Saturday, and from Stewart becoming the first player with 30 points and 10 rebounds to Angel Reese becoming the first rookie in All-Star history with a double-double.
Here’s are the biggest takeaways from All-Star weekend as the WNBA takes a monthlong break during the Olympics.

Carter scores 34, Reese records another double-double as Sky beat Aces 93-85
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Chennedy Carter scored 34 points, Angel Reese had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her 16th double-double in the last 17 games, and the Chicago Sky beat the Las Vegas Aces 93-85 on Tuesday night.
Chicago led 42-21 at the midway point of the second quarter and held the advantage until Megan Gustafson made a 3-pointer from the corner with 8:16 remaining in the fourth to give the Aces their first lead of the game at 72-71.
Carter put Chicago ahead for good, 80-79, on a basket while being fouled with 3:23 left. She missed the free throw, but Chicago grabbed the offensive rebound, and Carter made another shot for a three-point lead. Carter also scored on Chicago’s next two possessions to make it 86-81.
Reese secured her double-double with 1:32 left in the fourth when she elevated to grab a rebound and put up a shot before landing on the floor for an 88-81 lead. The Sky made 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal it.

Liberty beat Sky, Resse extend bd Dub -Dub, Sky has a guard problem!!
Teresa Witherspoon definitely has a guard problem. No way you can expect Carter to play both defense and offense and there 3 guards who can compete.
NEW YORK — Guard Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty overcame a slow start and 14-point deficit to handily beat the visiting Chicago Sky 91-76 on Thursday night at Barclays Center.
The Liberty — who are 2-1 against the Sky this season — join 13 other teams across WNBA history in winning 19 of their first 23 games of a season. Twelve of those teams made the WNBA Finals that year, and 10 won the championship.
“This is a veteran team, an experienced team,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. “They can lock in. We’ve got great leadership. There’s a commitment to excellence. Even if you struggled one quarter, they’re always encouraging each other, ‘Come on, let’s do it. Let’s be better.’”
Ionescu missed her first seven shots of the game and was 1-for-8 from the floor at halftime before finishing with a team-best 21 points behind 6-for-9 shooting (4-for-6 from 3) in the second half.
“Kind of hung my head at halftime and then came back to start that third with an understanding I need to go out there and get the ball in the basket for this team to win,” Ionescu said. “Just thankful that I had that opportunity to go out there and get good looks.”

Mystics beat Clark &Fever!!!
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever (9-14) dropped Wednesday afternoon’s game to the Washington Mystics in an 89-84 loss at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Wednesday was Indiana’s first loss this season to Washington before the final meeting on September 19. Indiana outscored Washington in paint points, 42-38, and fast break points, 26-9. Indiana outscored Washington, 29-13 in the fourth quarter and went on a 16-4 run for more than three minutes at the end of the game, trimming a 22-point deficit to three points in the final minute of regulation.
Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark led the way on Wednesday and became the first player in the NBA or WNBA since the 1973-74 season to record at least 29 points, 13 assists, five rebounds, five made 3-point field goals and three steals. Wednesday was Clark’s seventh double-double of the season and fourth consecutive double-double as her 13 assists tied her franchise record for the third time this season.
Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell followed with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. Mitchell moved into third place in franchise history in free throws made with 561, passing Briann January with 560. KEL’EL WARE IS HE THE BEST PICK OF THE NBA DRAFT?
Heat first-round pick Kel’el Ware dominates, other observations from summer league win over Kings
The Miami Heat continued summer league action with a 102-86 win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday at Chase Center in the second of its three-game run at the California Classic. Here are some observations from the Heat’s victory over the Kings in San Francisco:
Ware, who was taken by the Heat with the 15th overall pick in the first round of this year’s draft, was dominant on Sunday. He totaled a game-high 26 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field to go with 11 rebounds, three assists and one block in the win.
“He did a phenomenal job creating actions rolling to the rim, sealing,” Heat player development coach and summer league head coach Dan Bisaccio said of Ware. “He did a great job with his touch around the rim. And then again, rebounding. Offensive rebounding, obviously, but also just eating up the glass on the defensive end any chance he can.”
After shooting 0 of 3 from three-point range in Saturday’s summer opener, the 20-year-old Ware shot 0 of 2 from deep on Sunday.

Bronny James Is he ready for the NBA?
LeBron James says his son’s mind is already NBA-ready ... revealing this week Bronny James does not care one bit about the opinions of his haters.
In fact, the Lakers superstar said in a sit-down interview with ESPN this weekend his teenage boy “doesn’t give a f***” about any of the outside noise.
He doesn’t,” LBJ said. “Bronny plays. He works his tail off. When he goes home, he plays video games.”
The criticism of the younger James, of course, has grown exponentially louder in the last few days ... after the Lakers selected him with the No. 55 overall pick in the NBA draft.
Many have screamed nepotism — and picked apart his game completely. And, after a four-point (2-for-9 from the floor) Summer League debut on Saturday, the chatter hasn’t slowed one bit.

Chennedy Carter scores 33, Angel Reese extends double-double streak to 12 as Sky beat Storm 88-84
SEATTLE — — Chennedy Carter scored a season-high 33 points and rookie Angel Reese extended her WNBA single-season record for consecutive double-doubles to 12 to help the Chicago sky beat the Seattle Storm 88-84 Friday night.
Carter shot 15 for 24 and Reese finished with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Reese, who went into the game leading the WNBA in rebounds (11.8 per game) and offensive rebounds (4.8), made 8 of 13 from the field, 2 of 2 from 3-point range and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line — including 4 of 4 in the final 20 seconds.
Reese’s 12 straight double-doubles tied Candace Parker’s WNBA-record streak that spanned the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Reese hit a 3-pointer that gave Chicago (8-11) a 78-70 lead with 6:16 to play. Jewell Loyd hit a pull-up jumper and a tip-in putback to cut the deficit to four with 4 minutes remaining. Jordan Horston made a 3-pointer, followed by back-to-back baskets by Ezi Magbegor that pulled the Storm to 84-82 with 20.2 seconds left before Reese sealed it from the free-throw line.
Seattle (13-7) had previously won four straight — all by double-digit margins.
Horston led the Storm with a season-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Nneka Ogwumike added 16 points and Loyd 13. Magbegor also scored 13 with eight rebounds and a career-high eight blocks, and Skylar Diggins-Smith finished with 12 points and nine #CoachSides

Heart and Soul of the Indiana Fever… Boston, Mitchell, Smith & Wheeler…
When it comes to the Indiana Fever basketball team you have 12 players , but the heart and soul of the team is definitely not Caitlin Clark who was the #1 pick in 2024 WNBA draft.
Players who had to change their game to help supplement Clark lack of defense and her turnovers with erratic passes .
Players like Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, NaLyssa Smith and Erica wheeler had to change their game is satisfy Clark fans.
Caitlin Clark is a good basketball player when she can find her sweet spot on the floor, she only can go right and has no mid range game.
Seems like her IOWA coach allowed her to shoot but nerved interject playing defense . Ckark average about 25 shots a game in college and her non basketball fans thought that was going to happen in the WNBA.
Clark definitely need to engage her mindset of playing defense and to guard the top players in her position.
Otherwise she def a LIABILITY ON DEFENSE

Fever defeat Mercury
PHOENIX — Caitlin Clark had 15 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds and the Indiana Fever rallied for an 88-82 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.
Clark was just 4-of-14 from the field and 2-of-10 from 3-point range. But she made a pair of free throws with 19.9 seconds to play to put the Fever up three. Indiana had trailed by as many as 15 in the first half.
Kelsey Mitchell’s basket with 35 seconds to play gave Indiana the lead for good. She made two free throws with 12.9 seconds to go to seal it. Mitchell scored 16 points, all in the second half.
Aliyah Boston had 17 points and eight rebounds and NaLyssa Smith had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Fever, who closed out June 7-4 after going 1-8 in May. Temi Fagbenle had 10 points for Indiana.
“When the challenges came, we stepped up and we attacked them head-on. I couldn’t be more proud of my entire team,” Fever coach Christie Sides said.
Lynx defeat Sky
The first 30 minutes of Sunday's game at Chicago were nearly unrelenting frustration for the Lynx.
Their shots weren't falling, particularly from behind the arc. The Sky used their size to push and shove their way to the offensive and defensive glass. Down five entering the fourth quarter, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve had a message: don't be frustrated, be focused. Don't let up, dig down.
"I knew defense would be our path," Reeve said.
It was. Turning their defense up to 11, holding the Sky to just five points on 2-for-23 shooting, the Lynx spent the fourth quarter rallying to a 70-62 victory.

WNBA FEVER vs MERCURY… WHO WILL PREVAIL?
The Indiana Fever will continue to fine-tune their offense around Caitlin Clark when they visit the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday afternoon.
After Indiana (7-12) absorbed its second straight loss, an 89-77 defeat at Seattle on Thursday, coach Christie Sides said her team needs the star rookie to shoot more.
“Caitlin Clark needs to shoot a minimum of 15 shots a game for us,” Sides told reporters. “She’s got to get shots, and we’ve got to do a better job of setting her up, setting some really good screens for her to get her open.”
Clark had 15 points against Seattle, matching Erica Wheeler for the team high, and she did it on 4-of-9 shooting, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range. But Aliyah Boston, NaLyssa Smith and Kelsey Mitchell all took more shots than Clark.
The No. 1 draft pick, who’s been routinely face-guarded and draped by defenders, said the Fever could have done better out of their ball screens against the Storm.
“I could definitely be a little more aggressive to the basket,” Clark said. “But I think I’m just going to try to take what the defense gives me and try to set my teammates up for success, too.”
Clark is averaging 16.2 points, 6.6 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals through 19 games for the Fever. Mitchell has the team high at 16.3 points after making 58.3 percent of her 3-point tries (14 of 24) in the past four games.

WNBA FEVER NEEDS BETTER GUARDS! Mitchell, Wheeler & Clark is not enough…
If you look at the guards in the WNBA the major of them are bigger and stronger then the guards on the Fever.
Wheeler should be the point guard starting who has the most heart to go into the paint.
Both Mitchell and Clark are shooters.
The other 3 guard are ok besides Hill who play more defense than Clark.
Wallace and Berger are basically taking up space.
There is no veteran leadership on this team.
The Fever definitely need a swing forwards who can guard, defend the post and get rebounds.
Either way these next couple of games will be hard for the Fever to win.

SHA’CARRI RICHARDSON, GABBY THOMAS CLAIM RESPECTIVE 200M ROUND ONE HEATS AT U.S. TRIALS…
Four days after the reigning 100m world champion soared to victory in her marquee event at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - track & field, the Dallas, Texas, native was back on the track - this time for the 200m.
Richardson was the only woman in the first round of the 200m to clock a sub-22, going 21.99 for the win on Thursday (27 June).
Richardson is the reigning world bronze medallist in that event, but she was 0.12 seconds faster than reigning silver medallist in Gabby Thomas, who also won her heat, going 22.11.
Both women eased up at the finish to cross the line safely, not only into the semis but as the run-away winners in their respective heats.
“It’s about execution,” Richardson, 24, told NBC. “I’m focusing in on executing the curve to make the straight-away much, much easier. I felt like today I thought I did that really excellent. I know that there is room for improvement, so I’m excited to show that in the semi-finals tomorrow.”
Asked if having already qualified for the 100m meant there was less press on Sha’Carri, she replied: “Absolutely not. Any time I touch the track, it’s an opportunity to work on my best self. So, any time I touch the track there’s pressure.”

Stop finding excuses for Caitlin Clark, She a liability on defense, can’t stop top guards.
Everyone who are CC fans and not basketball fans are trying to find an excuse for this Avery player.
Clatk can’t play defense or guard the top WNBA Guards, she a turnover machine, she can not read the defense because one she pass the ball off SHE STABD STILL!😳😳😳
Problem is she was able to shoot the bell 25-30 times a sane at IOWA, which 2 years straight lost to LSU & SOUTH CAROLINA .
All she do is look for that sweet spot and if she can’t get there she lost on the floor. No inside game at all near the paint. Everything is 3’s.
She the problem and you all know it. Yes she can shoot and pass, BUT CAN’T PLAY DEFENSE OR WILL DEFEND THE BEST GUARD.
And do you expect them to beat the Aces, Storm, Sun, Liberty, Lynx😂😂😂😂😂😂
She needs to understand the fundamentals of TEAM WORK ON THE FLOOR!

Jewell Loyd scores a season-high 34 points as Storm cool off Caitlin Clark and Fever 89-77
SEATTLE (AP) — Jewell Loyd scored 23 of her season-high 34 points in the first half and played most of the game with a swollen left eye, and the Seattle Storm held Caitlin Clark to just three points in the second half of an 89-77 win over the Indiana Fever on Thursday night.
Seattle (11-6) improved to 2-0 in the beginning stages of a WNBA-record nine-game homestand that won’t see the Storm head on the road again until mid-July.
Clark finished with 15 points and seven assists, playing before another sold-out crowd with many fans wearing various No. 22 jerseys with her name across the back.
But it was Loyd who put on the show.
“We knew it was coming and when it comes, it comes in a storm. In a barrage. We know she can rattle off points,” Seattle coach Noelle Quinn said.
Loyd made five 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes and her 23 first-half points were the second-most by any player in the WNBA this season. She also missed nearly five minutes of the half after getting inadvertently hit around the left eye late in the first quarter.

Sky defeated Fever, Caitlin Clark choked, It not Coach Sides fault they lost!
Funny how when the Fever was in a 4 game winning streak against teams with a losing record. All you YouTuber, Bloggers and CC cult members had NO PROBLEM!😳😳😳
Now that they lost to the Sky this past Sunday. It’s the coach fault, Fire the coach😂😂😂😂
No it was CC Fault the play before Boston took the 3 because Cc didn’t come get the ball. Because She CHOKED!
Seriously you CC Fans find every excuse but blame Ckark for her mistakes and turnovers.
Coach sides is not getting fired SO GET OVER IT!!

MEET TEAM USA 2024 & 3x3 TEAM REPRESENTING USA!
USA Basketball at the Olympics
The United States has medaled every Olympics in which it has participated, dating back to a silver medal in 1976. In total, the USA owns nine gold medals, one silver and one bronze. The U.S has won seven consecutive gold medals, the first of which came at the 1996 Atlanta Games. The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris.
No one player has more familiarity with Team USA on the world’s biggest stage than Diana Taurasi, who will make a record sixth consecutive Olympic appearance later this summer. Her 38 games as a USA Basketball Olympian is second to none, and the 42-year-old veteran will be joined by Kahleah Copper and Brittney Griner as fellow representatives of the Phoenix Mercury in Paris.
Taurasi and Griner both return after capturing gold in the 2020 and 2016 Olympic Games, and Breanna Stewart. Napheesa Collier, Chelsea Gray, Jewell Loyd and A’ja Wilson are all also set to run it back from the victorious Tokyo Olympic crew for the red, white and blue in Paris.
First-time five-on-five Olympians Sabrina Ionescu, Kelsey Plum, Alyssa Thomas and Jackie Young all have either 3x3 Olympic gold or World Cup gold around their respective resumes’ necks.
The committee is ultimately tasked with how to equip USA Women’s National Team head coach Cheryl Reeve with the best group capable of upholding the gold standard. Versatility, familiarity and positional depth, on top of the obvious talent, are among those criteria considered in the process of narrowing to 12.

Is this Sha’Carri Richardson’s time? After lost Olympic shot, the sprint star is back…
Making up for lost time is a misnomer. Time can’t be recovered. It’s a scarcity, inherently unretrievable. So Sha’Carri Richardson can’t make up for the years of waiting and working towards her first Olympics. She can’t go back and undo the failed marijuana test that deprived her of an Olympic debut in 2021.
The only thing she can do now, as the Olympic trials kick off Friday at the University of Oregon, is prove time wasn’t lost at all. It was seized, converted into fuel.
Three years of waiting. Three years of stigmatization. Three years of delayed anointing. It’s now time for the 24-year-old Richardson to snatch the crown she seems destined to wear.
And perhaps because time has been lost, and conservative isn’t her style, Richardson declared for the 100- and the 200-meter at the trials.
Finishing top three in the 100-meter race at the Olympic trials will earn her a spot in Paris and put her on the biggest stage of her sport. If she does the same in the 200, she could attempt to become the first American woman since Florence Griffith-Joyner, aka Flo-Jo, to win the daunting sprint double. In 1988, Flo-Jo followed her 100-meter win by setting the world record in the 200 (21.34 seconds) which still holds today.
It might be optimal for Richardson to focus on the 100, considering the difficulty of Olympic gold in her best event. But as long as she’s waited for this moment, why not go for it? She’s already spent a while on the porch of the superstardom her ability long prophesied.
In June 2021 at the Olympic trials, delayed a year because of COVID-19, she ran the 100-meter dash in 10.86 seconds in the final. Surging from behind with a superstar’s finish, Richardson won by more than a tenth of a second. She’d realized her dreams of making the Olympics.
