Exciting News! Big Announcement! And an update on all our rescued Belgian Draft Horses Ep.38
Episode 38
Busy few weeks again here on the farm! We had some cold weather which brought us to getting the farm winterized and shoring up some things that needed to be fixed like the waterers for the horses. We needed a warm place for the cats and the horses needed a round bale of hay since the pasture is dying off. We seemed to have skipped right over fall and went to winter. It all happened so fast!
There are sunsets that just paint the sky with beautiful colors here in Amarillo. We have had a few amazing sunset during the last few weeks and I was able to capture video and pictures to share with everyone.
Cory did an excavation project last weekend and I was able to capture some footage of that aspect of our business that we are pursuing. He dug a trench and angered some holes.
Also, Included is an update on all the horses and animals around the farm. Exciting news...with Anna if you have been following her story. She's doing so well! Wait till you see her in this video, she's like a completely different horse from when she first arrived here on the farm.

Farrier Day! Experience our first time having the farrier out to the farm for hoof trims Ep.36
Episode 36
We had a very hard time finding a farrier in the Amarillo area to work on our draft horses that were rescued from a livestock yard back in February 2022. Before all the horses arrived at the farm they were still at the livestock yard where a farrier did a hoof trim on the original 6 horses.
When we finally found a farrier to work on the draft horses, they were all overdue for a trim. Most of the horses had a lot of overgrowth and some had cracks.
This was our first experience getting the horses into the horse stock and seeing what happens during farrier service. This was defiantly a challenging situation because the horses were stubborn and didn't want to yield their feet. With them also being senior horses it was difficult for them to stand on 3 legs for an extended period of time due to arthritis.
HUGE thank you to Kimi Posey for taking on our draft horses! We can't thank you enough!

Thank you for watching!

Belgian Draft Horse saved from slaughter-Week 7 progress on Anna & installation of our solar panels.
Episode 35
If you haven't been following our story, Anna was neglected, starved and dumped at a kill pen after working hard her whole life. We rescued her days before she was almost sent to slaughter. This is an update and progress on how Anna is doing since her last vet visit and being here on our farm for 7 weeks. She has come such a long way in her healing journey but still has a ways to go. Check out Anna's story in the links below.

We had an exciting week and there is usually never a dull moment around here! Our solar panels were delivered on Wednesday and installation of our solar system started on Thursday. Texas Solar Solutions is doing the installation and we just can't say enough great things about them! The customer service is phenomenal and the installation process has been the smoothest process ever. Below is a link to their website if anyone is interested in the best solar option with a company that goes above and beyond for their customers.

What is Colic in Horses?
The word “colic” in horse terms simply means abdominal pain. The source of the pain could originate from any location within the horse’s abdomen, from the intestines to an organ such as the stomach or liver. Most commonly, colic occurs due to part of the intestines becoming impacted or from being in an abnormal placement within the abdomen.
Colic is one of the most common emergencies seen in horses, which is why it is very important to understand what it is, the common colic signs, and what to do.

Update on our Rescued Belgian Draft Horse saved from slaughter just over a week ago Ep.30
Episode 30
I apologize for not posting a video sooner and I am working on responding to all of your messages. WE truly appreciate your support! Anna started eating Alfa Pro this weekend which is an alfalfa pellet feed fortified with all the vitamins and minerals a horse would need.
There have been a few questions posted asking if we have an Amazon wish list to help with supplies for the horses. Unfortunately, we do not have a wish list because we purchase all our horse supplies from HF&C Supply Amarillo. The entire staff at HF&C have been extremely helpful to us ever since we got these horses back in February. Whenever we have questions their staff is always available to help in any way we need. They never make us feel rushed and always welcomed when we are in the store. In the winter we have round bales of hay delivered and they usually have it out to us within an hour or that afternoon. Exceptional customer service!
With that being said, HF&C has graciously offered to help us with anyone wanting to send a gift of Alfa-Pro to the horses. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo and they will add those bags to our account. Alfa Pro is $15.75 per 50lb. bag plus tax. AND....
We had a crazy busy few days! My best friend was in town visiting from Chicago. Our farrier, Kimi Posey came out on Saturday to do Aline's hooves (farrier video to follow another day). We have been taking Anna for walks in the paddock to get some exercise everyday and we had a huge storm Monday. SO...this is a quick update video on all the things happening around here the last few days. Anna is doing well and since we have been taking her on walks the swelling is going down in her legs. We just rescued Another Belgian Draft Horse from a kill pen Ep. 26
Episode 26
I know I promised an update video of Charlie this week with his grazing muzzle, but in true Fletcher fashion...I had to change the plan for the week!
I was scrolling through Facebook yesterday and came across this senior Belgian Draft Horse that needed to be saved. She was shipping to Mexico to slaughter on Sunday 8/21/2022. There is a group that came in from an Amish farm in Ohio. If anyone is interested in saving a horse please check out their facebook page (link below). They have a team of Belgian Draft Horse geldings that stick together (Lot 650 & 651). Both are still young (maybe 11 years old) and healthy. Broke to ride and drive. I know I get questions if my horses are for sale...they are not...but the horses on Last Chance Direct Ship Horses page are available and would be a great addition to any farm. They are located in Kemp, Texas. They do offer boarding and shipping for an additional cost.
I really wish I could save more but I am out of room in my barn. If anyone has questions put them in the comments and I will try and help as much as possible to save these beautiful babies.
I never knew what Fletcher Farms Amarillo was going to grow to be...but now we have grown to a point that I want to help as many horses as I can find homes.
We saved Lot 647. She is 18 years old and 17 hands tall. Please subscribe to our channel to see her arrive and for updates on all our rescued animals. Welcome to the Fletcher Farms Amarillo family!

Try not to panic when your horse escapes the pen!
Happy Monday...this is how today is going so far!
I came out to feed everyone this morning and Charlie broke the gate and escaped his pen. If you haven't seen Charlie's story, he's prone to choking when he eats grass because it get stuck in his abnormal esophagus. We started turning him out with a grazing muzzle but apparently he doesn't think he needs it! Luckily, I don't think he was out long because he was just walking to the pasture when I saw him. He is motivated by food so when I screamed breakfast he came back to the barn. He ate his breakfast and drank water with no signs of choking! Thank goodness!

Stubborn horse, let’s try your grazing muzzle so you can go in the pasture with the other horses
Charlie has an abnormal esophagus and we potentially found a solution for him not to eat grass in the pasture. We got him a few different options for grazing muzzles. Due to his condition he is prone to choking when he eats grass. It gets lodged in pockets of his esophagus that don't close properly.
Subscribe to our channel to see what happens next week with Charlies adventure in his new grazing muzzle. If you haven't seen Charlie story see the link below. Also check out the story of all our rescued Belgian Draft Horses.

New animal additions to the farm and ways to keep snakes away from your home Ep.25
Episode 25
I wanted to do a follow up to the “scare in the barn video” I put out a few weeks ago. If you missed the video, we had a rattlesnake in our barn eating a sparrow hawk that had just left the nest. Check out the link below.
https://youtu.be/TaXlX6WS3vA
Not wanting to have another snake situation or encounter, I researched ways to keep snakes out of your barn and away from your house. I wanted to share some of the ways I have found so far to help keep the snakes away along with some of the things we have implemented here on the farm.
Since I’m not a fan of snakes and have been terrified of them my whole life, I wanted to learn what was attracting them to our barn. Snakes prefer an environment that is dark, damp, places with plenty of cover, such as wood piles, unmowed lawns, tall grass and overgrown shrubbery. These are excellent place for snakes to hide. They linger in places where food is available without many predators.
Here on the farm we checked just about every one of those boxes…
Dark barn with plenty of things to hide under
Food source – mice, baby rabbits and birds
Tall grass – weeds around the barn
No predators!
Now we needed a way to keep the snakes out of the barn and away from potentially harming one of the horses, donkeys, goats or chickens.
Here is what we did…

Rescued Belgian Draft Horse Integration, our first time introducing a new horse to the herd Ep.24
Episode 24
How to Plan the Perfect Horse Integration...well...there's no such thing as a perfect horse integration but you can create a plan for a safe introduction.
This was our first time ever integrating horses. A few months back we integrated our donkeys together and really wanted this introduction to go better. Our donkeys fought things out for about a week and we didn't want the same outcome for our newest rescued Belgian Draft horse. I will include a link to the donkey integration video below.
We heard horror stories when it came to integrating a new horse into the herd. Many of those stories included a situation where they have let the new horse out with the others, the situation escalated and got out of control because the other horses saw the new horse as a threat. Some of those stories included horse being chased around, running through the fence, being forced into a corner, kicked or bitten. Moving the new horse to a new place is about creating a safe environment and taking the ‘integration process’ slowly.
We learned through our first horse integration that horses are herd animals and they will work things out how they want them worked out. No matter how much planning you do, the horses need and will establish a pecking order. In this video we show you how we integrated our new horse into the herd. Our biggest challenge and something we are still working on is feeding the horses in the same area. There is an example in this video of that challenging situation.
WE hope you enjoy this video and make sure you subscribe to the channel so you don't miss anything happening around the farm!

I didn’t grow up on a farm, but I sure got here as fast as I could! #shorts #shortvideo #horse #farm
I have always dreamed of rescuing horses and having a farm. When life took us in a different direction, the opportunity presented itself for us to buy a farm. We jumped at the chance and decided to live our dream.
We rescued 6 Belgian draft horses from slaughter along with 3 donkeys. We now also have chickens and goats! Who knows what else life will bring us but I’m sure glad we made this choice to start this farm.
Life is too short to not live your best life and follow your passion.
