NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 Flight Day 3 Highlights - September 4, 2023
NASA astronauts Steve Bowen and Woody Hoburg as well as UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev began their journey back to Earth from the International Space Station on Sunday, September 3, by closing the hatch to the SpaceX Dragon, named Endeavour, followed by undocking. After nearly 16 hours of transit, Bowen, Hoburg, Alneyadi, and Fedyaev returned to Earth with a parachute-assisted splashdown off the coast of Florida on Monday, September 4. NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 completed an approximately six-month mission living and working aboard the microgravity laboratory to advance scientific knowledge and demonstrate new technologies for future human and robotic exploration flights that pave the way for NASA’s Artemis program.

Between 1968 and 1972, NASA successfully sent 24 men where no human beings had been before or since. The final mission, Apollo 17, flew in December 1972 and closed the final chapter in NASA’s triumphant Apollo Program. Using spectacular NASA high-definition archive footage, mission audio and rare astronaut interviews, this is a unique documentary film that comprehensively chronicles one of the greatest moments in mankind’s history.
Uninterrupted by narration or expert interviews, this documentary immerses the audience inside the action as it happened on the day, over 40 years ago. Journey with astronauts Eugene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt and Ronald Evans through their extensive training and across their 14-day mission to the Moon and back, and share the discoveries with Cernan and Schmitt as they explore the lunar surface for 3 days, while Evans performs experiments and reconnaissance in lunar orbit. The Apollo 17 Experience is an emotive, informative and inspirational tribute to the spirit of human exploration and mankind’s final steps on the Moon.

Shuttle Atlantis STS-132 - Amazing Shuttle Launch Experience
Kennedy Space Center, May 14th, 2010.
I was privileged to travel to the Kennedy Space Center to watch the launch of Atlantis on what was then the "final scheduled" flight of the orbiter (STS-132). This video is my homage to the shuttle program through the in-depth experience of a single orbiter launch. I believe we should be thankful for the Atlantis orbiter, all her astronauts, the countless NASA staff who made her fly, and the American people who created a space vehicle of extraordinary power and grace.
This footage incorporates numerous camera views from the ground, the footage I took during launch, and video and audio from NASA showing the orbiter stack itself during takeoff and flight. I hope you enjoy the experience of launch preparation and the resulting eight-and-a-half-minute exhilarating ride into space.
In places, the timeline of the actual events has been extended to allow viewing of several different viewpoints of the same moment. This creative decision aims to bask in the experience from many angles and celebrate the amazing feat of launching a spacecraft into orbit.
I hope you enjoy the ride!
MORE BACKGROUND
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After this flight, Atlantis was processed and prepared to fly one last time... this time as "on-call" STS-335, which would remain flight-ready, should either of the remaining two orbiters' flights require a rescue mission. Thankfully, such a rescue flight was not needed and Congress appropriated funds to extend the program to allow the "flight ready" Atlantis to launch one last time, becoming the last shuttle mission (STS-135) of the Shuttle Program.
Atlantis now has a permanent home on display at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Errata: A video editing error at the end of the video states the launch was in 2012, rather than the correct year of 2010.
SpaceX DM-2 Flight Day Highlights - May 30, 2020
Almost nine years after the final space shuttle mission, SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida May 30, an American rocket launching from American soil, placing NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken into orbit in the new Crew Dragon spacecraft for their journey to the International Space Station. Some 12 minutes after a spectacular liftoff from Launch Pad 39-A, Crew Dragon separated from the second stage of the Falcon 9 rocket and Hurley and Behnken began monitoring a series of test objectives for the duration of the vehicle’s 19-hour flight to the orbital outpost in the first crewed mission for the Commercial Crew Program. The veteran astronauts are scheduled to oversee an automated docking of Crew Dragon to the station May 31 to join NASA astronaut and Expedition 63 Commander Chris Cassidy of NASA and Russian crewmates Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner.
