Socialist tiktoker wants to be LAZY (Response)
This should be good. A leftist tiktoker thinks it is rational for you to work as little as possible. Let's test that assumption.
Actually, you do. Its called negotiation. The amount of wages you can bargain for depends on the value of your labour. And it increases with the amount of skills you accumulate, as well as your bargaining power over the employer. Now, if your job involves basic skills that most people can do, you will have less control of your wages. But if your skill is rare but still useful to the employer, such as advanced knowledge of mathematics or programming, then you can bargain for much higher wages. So the wage variable isn’t immutable.

Why European Wealth Taxes failed (Ft. Mikail & Layman) | Wealth Tax, Europe, EU
The wealth tax was a really a big failure in Europe. But first, what’s a wealth tax? Net wealth Taxes are recurrent taxes on individual net wealth stocks and they are levied on an annual basis. The number of wealth taxes has fallen as back in 1990, there were 12 OECD countries who used them, but in 2020, only three OECD countries Norway, Spain and Switzerland still levy wealth taxes. So what happened? Well, a number of things. When looking over a 50 year period starting from the mid 1960’s, most countries with a wealth tax saw their revenues remain stable or decline over time. But this is quite surprising since some studies have demonstrated that household net wealth has risen considerably, but this somehow didn’t translate to higher wealth tax revenues. Wealth taxes usually account for both a small portion of tax revenues and GDP, with net wealth taxes being the least common form of taxation within the OECD. Switzerland seems to be the most successful in generating wealth tax revenues, with 3.9% of their revenues coming from the wealth tax. Moreover, Switzerland has relatively low tax thresholds for the wealth tax where one of Switzerland’s canton had a threshold of 55,000 US dollars to qualify for a tax on wealth, in comparison to Norway’s 150,000 Euros per person. BTW, for comparison, the euro and dollar are pretty similar in terms of exchange rates. So, is Switzerland the only country that has managed to avoid the wealth tax curse? Well, I don’t think the Swiss should be that optimistic. Because the country doesn’t levy capital gains taxes and most cantons don’t have inheritance or gift taxes. So these wealth taxes may just be a revenue substitute for the lack of these taxes.

Wokeness and Meritocracy (Big Joel Response) | Elon Musk, Bill Maher, Breadtube, sjw, woke expert
Wokeness. It sucks. Or does it? Usually, when I start a video like this, I define the word in question. But the definition of such a word has been subject to rigorous debate. Or what counts as rigorous debate on the Internet these days. Online progressives in the past few months have questioning the Right and anti-social justice warriors on how they define the term, but have for the most part, not received a satisfactory answer. Some say that is it the belief that certain groups in society are marginalised. But that would describe black civil rights activists in the 1960's as woke, which would be quite a self-own for conservatives. Other more concrete definitions include seeing oppression everywhere even when its not there, prioritising identity politics over everything else, and seeing everything through the lens of intersectionality. In all honesty, I am not remotely impressed by any of these definitions because they massively miss the mark and are way too vague and casts a wide net. That last part might be intentional as I will talk about later. Anyway, despite these lackluster definitions, the eloquent Libertarian Youtuber and my friend, MentisWaves has a more satisfactory answer. Quote: ' An aggressive push for diversity/equity/inclusion, usually based on the belief that outcomes which lack these things are indicative of discrimination and/or unfair social treatment". Emphasis on aggressive push. Please feel free to check out his video on wokeness and it's definition in the description and pinned comment below.
Now, the aggressive push can refer to a terminally online mob putting pressure on an employer to fire someone who had a 5 year old tweet that is considered racist, boycotting companies who aren't progressive enough for them and pushing for hate speech laws that put you in prison if you say something that is considered bigoted to a so-called marginalised group. Other components of this more solid definition of wokeness include seeing oppression of certain minorities in all aspects of society even when its false, using regressive, illiberal and anti-egalitarian methods in attempts to eliminate alleged oppression, believing in false information and ideas to further stop alleged oppression and downplaying the concerns of people who belong to groups that are considered historical oppressors such as whites and men. Even believing discrimination against these so-called oppressor groups is non-existent, not relevant or deserved. This combination can often contradict reality. Anyway, the online Left has disparaged the Right's attempts at defining the term woke. After all, the negative view of the term is not reflected in its Oxford dictionary version since being alert about discrimination doesn't highlight about the aggressive approach that woke activists have. There is also no serious academic definition for it. Many of the progressive breadtubers have taken victory laps over this, but one leftist in particular has caught my attention. And that is youtuber Big Joel. Our resident woke expert. He does not differ with the rest of the online Left in viewing opposition to so-called woke ideology as ridiculous. And he makes this quite clear in his commentary over an interview of Elon Musk by Late Night comedian Bill Maher.

Can Biden actually reduce Inflation? | Inflation Reduction Act, President Joe Biden, Kyle Kulinski
With a harrowing inflation rate of 6% over the last 12 months in America, calls have been made to deal with the problem of rising prices. One such solution that you may have heard of is the subtlety titled Inflation Reduction Act, which has been proposed and passed by President Joe Biden. The Act itself is a successor to Biden’s previous proposal called Build Back Better which failed to be enacted. And the main aim of the Inflation Reduction Act is to – surprise surprise, reduce inflation. But does it actually achieve this aim? And with the scale of such a policy, it of course has other concerns such as reducing the deficit. In fact, deficit reduction is needed to deal with inflation and is one of the main aims of this bill, this video will focus a lot on measures cutting the deficit and whether they are effective. And even focus on other economic indicators like GDP growth and employment projections.
The Act proposes tax rebates and credits for a variety of green measures, a 15% minimum corporate tax for companies above $1 billion in income, a 1% tax on stock buybacks, raising the supertax on crude oil and imported petroleum to 16.4%, extending deduction limits on pass-through tax losses, allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices, limits the increase in prices of some Medicare-covered drugs, raising the research and development tax credit to $250000 for small businesses, provides $80 million to the IRS for hiring and improving their services and extending the temporary expansion of affordable care act subsidies through 2025 to households 400% above the poverty line. BTW, these temporary expansions don’t seem to be so temporary. But let’s see if Biden’s bill can reduce the deficit.
CBO/PBM: According to the Penn Wharton Budget model, the spending and revenue provisions would reduce deficits by a cumulative $248 billion from 2022 to 2031 while the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the deficit would be reduced by $305 billion. Of course the projected net benefits may take time to occur, with the CBO estimating an initial $20 billion in deficit reduction but no significant reductions til 2026, while Penn Wharton even projects deficit increases until 2026. While the difference in deficits between the 2 estimates is $57 billion over a decade, it represents less than 0.1% of projected revenues so the Pen Wharton and CBO estimates are very close. But the disparity in their estimates mainly arises from the CBO assuming that the minimum corporate tax raises $53 billion more over 10 years.

Hunter Avallone, Jesus & Conservatives | Hunter Avallone, Christmas 200 Sub Special, Capitalism
From the dawn of Youtube, the ideological debate between religion and atheism had been raging on but as it lost relevance over the years, the energy, vigour and intellect invested in this phemenon was converted to Youtube’s new trend. Politics. But in the intersection of religion and politics, there have been heavy accusations of hypocrisy levelled by more left-leaning atheists against Conservatives for their supposed Christian beliefs of helping the poor and downtrodden while advocating for Laizze Faire Economics. These criticisms have been somewhat hilariously personified in the meme of Republican Jesus. And political pundit Hunter Avallone continues the spirit of this secular tradition through this thoughtful tweet.
Of course the first two points are jokes since Jesus wasn’t born because of adultery and Jesus’ parental situation is more akin to an adoption than that of a gay couple. The aesthetics points about Jesus having long hair may not be true since we don’t know what Jesus looked like regardless of the paintings and Jesus would have probably worn the culturally male dress of the time. But his final point is that Jesus commanding “people to care for the underprivileged” is at odds with Laisse Faire Conservatives. As in Christian Conservatives are hypocrites for wanting less government spending on poverty yet follow Jesus who commanded people to help the poor. Hunter would probably also argue that Christian conservatives have been bigoted to historically marginalised minorities such as Black and LGBT Americans or refuse to provide solutions that will solve these groups suffering.

No, Centrism is not "Right Wing" (President Sunday response) | Centrism, Leftism, Conservatism
No, centrism is not Right-wing.
Original Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqSyehQxJH8&t=61s
If you have been in the hellscape that is known as online politics for some time, you are probably familiar with the political left and the political right, as well as what they represent. In short, the political right wants to preserve good institutions of our society, while the political left wants to improve or change bad institutions. That least that’s their stated goals. There are much more complexities than that, but that is the Layman’s definition. Anyway, a middle ground to both sides is referred to as centrism, the theory that the answers to society’s problems are found roughly in the middle of these 2 ideologies. There has been pushback to this, but vocally from one side more than the other. Many online Leftists have condemned centrism with accusations that they in reality support the Right and fascism, intentionally or not. One such leftist is a Youtuber called President Sunday. He also has some disdain for liberalism. Let’s hear him out.
Ok, there is a lot to unpack there. First off, no, the Left-Right political spectrum is not a binary. And even if it were, I am not sure we would get that implication from your own definitions and descriptions of the Left and Right. You have described the Left as advocating for changing, critiquing or replacing old institutions. But what institutions? All institutions? Some institutions? These questions determine the validity of Sunday's framing of the spectrum as a political binary. If he means the Left wants to affect all structures, while the Right wants to keep all structures the same, then the President, then his assessment of centrists and liberals would be a more logical implication of his ideas. But if he means that the Left-wing only wants to change some historical structures at a time, and hence preserve others, then Sunday's statement about centrists would be wrong. The Right being the opposite would focus on preserving some structures that they consider important and will argue in defense of them. Any structures that either the Right or Left disagree on what to do about will become an issue of debate. But they would probably agree on changing some structures, and keeping others, even if this point of agreement is small. Sunday claims that the Left and Right are a binary with no continuum, hence centrists can't meaningly fully be a middle ground. But a centrist can choose to change/critique/replace some structures while deciding to preserve others. Does this make them left-wing? Does this make them right-wing? Or both? A possible Progressive Conservative even. If the centrist is really "right-wing" because they want to preserve some structures, could it also be argued that they are really left-wing because they want to change some structures? The logic that Sunday uses is self-defeating.

British Leftist DEBUNKED on the Windfall Tax | Tory, cost of living crisis, gas prices
Robespierre gets DEBUNKED on the windfall tax with the cost of living crisis. The windfall tax. A one-time tax targeted on companies who made unexpected profits in circumstances that they were not responsible for. In our case, it would be global demand rising after lockdowns start to ease and a Russian invasion of Ukraine leading to Russian oil not being sanctioned. You could probably tell that I am not a fan from the thumbnail, but apparently Maximilien Robespierre is. Who is this Robespierre? Is he the reincarnation of the French statesman who was driven mad and facilitated the Reign of terror and oppressing human rights and freedoms in the name of liberalism, becoming the very thing he was against? No, its actually a modern day Youtuber who uses the same name and profile. A little like me. Anyway, Robespierre is an interesting guy, who put the Young Turks as one of his featured channels and responded to a common friend of the channel Kyle Kulinski who agrees with on many things. But his intellect towers both TYT and Kulinski which shows you can’t judge people by association. So this is sort of a challenge for me. Now let’s begin the video.

Debunking Leftist myths on the model minority & Asians | Adam Ruins Everything, Destiny, racism
Did Asian immigration create the model minority. Destiny (Steve Bonnell), Adam Ruins Everything and Carissa Avallone thinks so as well as various other pundits.
Racism, particularly the systemic kind, has often been a contentious topic in America. The United States’ historical treatment of African Americans through slavery and Jim Crow has been argued to still affect the present-day black community and is responsible for significant racial disparities such as median incomes. Conservatives have responded to this by pointing out that Asian Americans on average have higher household incomes than White Americans. From this, it has been surmised that Asians, a racial group who have also faced systemic discrimination in the past, have overcome this barrier which further indicates that the racial disparities between whites and blacks cannot be explained by racism.
While you don’t hear this everywhere, its getting popular. Even my buddy Layman agreed with Carissa in her livestream about this. So, are Destiny, Carissa Avallone and Adam Ruins Everything correct that Asian immigration to the US is extremely qualified? And how would we check it? Well, Arthur Sakamato and Sharron Xuanren Wang are gifted academics who I would really recommend as their work helped me with a previous video. Though, I probably butchered their names so sorry for that. And for this video, I am using their paper “Deconstructing Hyperselectivity”.
Hyperselectivity refers to immigrants being significantly more likely to possess university/college degrees than non-migrant inhabitants of their own countries of origin. And the current state of Asian immigration to the US has been described as hyperselective. For example, only 5% of the Vietnamese population hold a bachelors degree but more than a quarter of Vietnamese immigrants have a bachelors degree and 51% of Chinese immigrants had graduated from college yet only 4% of adults in China did the same. You can tell from the percentages that Chinese immigrants are extremely hyperselective and more highly educated than the general U.S. population. Though it isn’t explicitly stated in the literature, the implication of hyperselectivity is that Asian immigrants to the US generally possess a higher-class status than the average citizen of their home country, so these hyperselective immigrants have imported middle class-specific values rather than ethnic cultural values of hard work and striving for education. So how valid is the hyperselectivity hypothesis?
It is true that Asian immigrants are disproportionately college educated. However, most of these immigrants obtained their college or University education in the US. The 1.25 generation as defined by Sakamato and Xuanren Wang are Asian immigrants who graduated from High School but came to the US to attend College or University. The 1.5 generation are defined as immigrants but who came to the US at a young age so were primarily educated in America.

Leftist FAILS on gas taxes (Sam Seder response) | Majority Report, Libertarian, Windfall Tax
Sam Seder is debunked on his gas taxes take when looking at Canada as well as the American Windfall Tax.
Hi everyone, I had just been vacationing in Canada for the past few weeks so haven’t been posting much on either Youtube or twitter. But this video of Sam Seder came to my attention on a libertarian policy in Alberta Canada from a Canadian Caller. While in Canada, I made a video response to this on my phone, but the audio quality was horrible so I unlisted it, especially after valid criticism from both aisles of the political spectrum. So I’m extremely sorry about that. So here’s a redo. Anyway, let’s here what Sam says.
Me: So what he's talking about is the Premier of Alberta concerned about price fixing after taking away the gas tax of 13 cents per litre, AKA the gas tax holiday. This proposal was in response to high gas prices and while there was a benefit for Albertans initially relative to even other Canadian provinces, gas prices have risen again for Alberta. Hence, Albertans appear to no longer benefit from the tax cut. As a consequence, the Premier Jason Kenney has gone to the Competition Bureau since he believes there is a possibility of price collusion which is illegal and is trying to find out how to interfere under the Consumer Protection Act. However, what Sam's Canadian caller doesn't tell you about is that gas prices rise and fall for a multitude of factors that doesn't have to do with price gouging, monopoly power or so-called corporate greed. For instance, according to economist Trevor Tombe the tax reduction in diesel is still being passed to consumers as a benefit. So it is unlikely to be a lack of competition or greed.
Me: Well, it did go down temporarily for Alberta as I mentioned before and diesel still fell so there does seem to still be a decent relation between tax and price. Anyway, the cause for why gas prices are still high is unknown for now. But Tombe has theorised that a potentially plausible problem is a shortage of ethanol which is blended with gasoline. Such a shortage raises the cost of ethanol, thus raising business costs for gas stations, and these cost rises are passed onto the consumer. There are are a multitude of other possible factors that go into gas prices as the sector is an extremely volatile market. Not to mention that its pretty competitive as drivers have alternatives, and retail markets know this so will price accordingly. Other factors could be Alberta-specific cost increases or interest rate hikes. If you think Seder has horrible takes but see very few people criticizing him, follow a new subreddit I created called SamSederFails, where we critique his arguments, promote response videos and other material related to him. Feel free to join.

Minneapolis: Economics of Rioting - A Case Study | Insurance, Rioting, Protests,George Floyd,St Paul
Insurance doesn't justify rioting. I will explain the economics of rioting with a case study analysis of Minneapolis in the Saint Paul area. With the death of George Floyd, there were mass protests, sadly it bring with it riots that damaged Minneapolis, specifically the Saint Paul area. With $500 million in damages, 1500 properties and 400 businesses damaged, the riots have significantly damaged Minneapolis. This of course doesn't include riots in other areas of America. Minneapolis had significant economic stats with beinh the 2nd biggest economy in the Midwest, 4th biggest financial hub, 13th biggest US metropolitan economy, and $26000million GDP.

Is the Windfall Tax (UK) a good idea? | Rishi Sunak, Gas prices, inflation, UK, u turn, tory, labour
INFLATION. It sucks. But it has become more prevalent with covid, the supply chain crisis, lockdowns, and a Russian invasion. Particularly with gas prices. But this has been contrasted with record profits made by energy companies leading to widespread outrage.
In response to this record inflation, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak announced a £15 billion package that is partially funded by a £5 billion windfall tax. This package includes a £400 discount to millions of households to pay for energy bills, a one-off £150 disability cost of living payment, pensioners receiving £300 and 8 million low-income households receiving £650. But what is a windfall tax? A Windfall tax is a one-off tax targeted on companies who made unexpected profits in circumstances that they were not responsible for. Like say the invasion of Ukraine leading to Russian oil not being an option, or global demand rising after lockdowns start to ease. The tax will be 25% on top of any current tax that energy companies are paying and will only be applied for the next 12 months. It also cannot be reduced by previous losses or expenditures. The Tory government initially opposed a Windfall tax for concerns on green energy investment and being less reliant on Russia while the Chancellor said he was not naturally attracted to such a tax but would be pragmatic about it. So, I will leave it to you to decide if he flip-flopped.
Regardless, the question remains. Is the windfall tax a good idea? Such a tax has been rarely implemented so there isn’t much to draw from. But there have been windfalls within the United Kingdom in 1981, 1997 and 2011 as well as one in America back in 1980. But he American windfall tax and the 1997 UK tax were on energy companies and have been thoroughly investigated so we will check those out.
According to a study on a 2005 American Wind Tax proposal, it would negatively affect domestic oil production and retirement savings along with limited tax benefits. One of the justifications of the windfall tax is the argument that it won’t distort economic decisions, investments or markets because the profits are unexpected and abnormally high.

Sam Seder blames Capitalism for Baby Formula Shortage| (ft ConnorSays) Seder, Majority Report, WIC
Sam Seder mistakenly blames government programs for the current baby formula shortage on capitalism along with his Majority Report colleagues
The US is currently facing a crisis. And like any good crisis in America, you get to politicize it and demonize your opponents for any dishonest or whimsical reason you could find. I’m just glad Brexit is over. But in all seriousness, there has been a shortage of baby formula which was triggered by the shutdown of an Abbot Nutrition plant in Sturgis. With a 40% company market share and the plant controlling a fifth of the nation’s supply, American households have struggled to find infant formula to the point that 4 infants have sadly been hospitalized with 2 already dead. This is a symptom of a much larger problem where 4 companies that include Abbott and Mead Johnson control roughly 90% of the infant formula market. And it stems from a government nutrition program called Women, Infants and Children or WIC for short. More than half of American infant formula is through WIC with only 2 companies serving nearly 90% of infants. Right now emergency solutions instead of fixing long-term problems are prioritised. These companies actually bid for the contracts, with the lowest bidder getting the contracts lead to massive cost savings but both Abbott and Mead Johnson serve at least 40% of infants. The funny thing is that these companies lose money on formula sold through WIC. This is done through indirect economic effects such as spill overs which I will elaborate on later. There is dispute to whether these contracts led to the monopolies. But one study begs to differ. And…
Sam Seder: "Shut up you White Nationalist Steven Crowder fanboy! It's my turn."

Kyle Kulinski MISREPRESENTS Ron Desantis on Florida bill | Secular Talk, University, survey, students
Kyle Kulinski uses a debunked article to argue that Ron Desantis' Florida bill will force students and professors to reveal their political beliefs.
Salon actually changed their article’s headline because it falsely claimed Ron Desantis’ bill will force students and professors alike to reveal their political beliefs to the Florida state government. The same article that Kyle is reading from. In reality, both professors and students have the choice to participate in the surveys. The funny thing is that both the law and article was written last year June 2021 so wasn’t recent. Its only in the news because it blew up in Left-leaning circles, which I assume Kyle picked up from since this seems pretty new to him. This seems to be a trend since Neil Degrasse Tyson’s exchange with Ben Shapiro on trans issues blew up in online left-wing circles much later than it was originally aired but many on the Left didn’t appear to know that it wasn’t recently released at the time. Anyway, this gone all the way up to novelist Stephen King who later deleted the tweet.

Biden's DERANGED take on guns | Joe Biden, gun control, military, F-15s, US President
Another morning, another reminder that we lost to some gun-toting, illiterate Americans 2 centuries ago and somehow played second fiddle to them for every major conflict in the latter half of the last century. I need something to distract myself. Wait, what’s this?
Biden: And for those brave right-wing Americans who say, its all about keeping America independent and safe, if you want to fight against a country, you need a F-15, you need a something little more than a gun.
Me: Wait, is Biden’s response to guns being necessary to stop government tyranny is that advanced military is enough to squash a rebellion with just guns? Well, this is a common talking point of those who laugh at the notion that the Second Amendment is a check on the government. Regardless, in an event of an armed revolution, the military would have a pretty hard time putting one down. While a tank or fighter plane would be a safe bet against a few Americans with guns, using it on domestic soil is pretty risky. Now using such weaponised vehicles or transport against a few armed revolutionaries is usually considered excessive force, and we all know excessive force by the government isn’t exactly all the rage right now. So let’s set up our scenario by having the armed revolutionaries a large portion of the American population. This is realistic very possible as America have many veterans with significant experience in combat and access to weaponry, and a rather enthusiastic gun culture. Not to mention, that 32% of American adults are gun owners and that there’s 120.5 arms per 100 US residents. If a large proportion of Americans do revolt, this can justify such weaponised modes of transport. But even then, factoring such a large population means a lot of them live in cities and suburbs. Using these powerful weapons in such locations would mean a lot of unnecessary civilian casualties and large-scale property damage. Sure, more right-wing Americans with a greater propensity to rebel in this political climate, often live in less dense rural areas. But F-15s are less effective in more spread out areas. Its much more cost-effective to use an F-15 extremely dense cities with multiple rebels in one location than in rural areas where you have to bomb a Qanon-obsessed rebel in some lone ranch.

Carissa Avallone is WRONG on Trump's Tax Cuts | Hunter Avallone's wife, Toasted, AJW, Deregulation
My friend Toasted debated Carissa Avallone nearly a year ago also known as Hunter Avallone’s wife. Anyway, they discussed multiple issues, one of which was the Trump Tax Cuts which I will be discussing today. There were other topics like systemic racism and I may do a another response on the debate when I do more research. Toasted held his own but Carissa was clearly more experienced. But I may have more experience on this topic. I even made a video on it. A lovely shameless plug. Of course, special thanks to Carissa herself for help on the video since she provided some of the sources that I couldn’t find myself despite hours of research. Now let’s get on with the video.
Unemployment caused by low interest rates: Since she casually referenced many of her sources live, it is understandable that she forgot key elements and details. For example, the source she linked mostly talks about how education was more responsible for the record low unemployment rates but there’s one sentence that low interest rates “arguably” caused the low unemployment rate. Emphasis on arguably.

Leftist tiktoker FAILS on Biden's Billionaire tax | President Joe Biden, Wealth Tax, Rick Scott
Tiktok. The site that keeps on giving. And twitter. The place where I bow my head in shame. Today we are responding to a left-wing tiktoker who is comparing both Biden’s and the quote on quote GOP tax plan. Let’s see if I can avoid an aneurysm unlike that last tiktok I debunked.
Problems with 0.01%: Ok, she only said one sentence but its already pretty misleading and I doubt she knows why. She is talking about a tax proposal from Biden’s 2023 budget that if passed will target households with a net worth of at least $100 million, slash the 0.01%. A 20% tax will be applied to the total income of this 0.01% per year. But what makes this kinda unprecedented is that unrealized capital gains will be taxed. At present, taxes are paid on capital gains when they are sold, but Biden’s proposal would tax these investors even if no profit was made. Forbes has a pretty good explanation for how this works. In their example, if a targeted household’s stock worth $500 rose to $900, they would have to pay a tax based on the difference of $400. This is pretty unfair as argued by both Republicans and Democrats since these investors will not receive any disposable cash to spend but still owe tax payments for money they don’t currently have access to. Proponents of the bill may argue that billionaires are taxed at 8.2% on average thanks to capital gains rates being lower than income taxes, but I would argue that we should lower income taxes at a similar level. Of course, illiquid holdings like business or real estate wouldn’t have to pay the full tax but owe an annual deferral charge. So Biden isn’t completely senile. Forbes also elaborates that as this is a minimum tax of 20%, wealthy households who paid their 20% won’t need to pay additional taxes, but if a wealthy household paid 15% in taxes, they would need to pay a further 5% to reach the 20% threshold.
Regardless of what you think of this policy, there is heavy opposition to the point that it will unlikely pass in congress according to some experts. Democrats have razor thin margins in congress due to scepticism of moderate lawmakers towards the minimum tax. To make matters even worse for Biden, the swing vote Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has called it a tough one and preferred alternatives to taxing wealthy people.

Why GDP sucks | Gross Domestic Product, Human Development Index, Measuring the economy
GDP. It sucks. I made a video on it. It also sucks. So here’s a redo. But what is it? Well, GDP or Gross Domestic Product measures the total output of an economy at a given time period. It was created by Simon Kuznets back in 1934 and even he saw its limitations back in the day. To calculate GDP, you could use the Production method by subtracting the cost of intermediate goods or the income approach which excludes sales taxes, depreciation, and foreign income. But for this video, we’ll keep it simple by using the Expenditure method. This is the sum of consumption, private sector investment, government spending and exports within the economy but takes away imports. Now the first limitation of GDP is that it can’t tell the difference between spending that is beneficial to society and spending that harms it instead.

Amazon vs Visa Beef Explained (UK) | Amazon, Visa, Jeff Bezos, credit card, debit card, Brexit, EU
Amazon. A corporation with the fifth biggest market value in the world. Visa. A business that allows customers to make online transactions in over 200 countries. Both companies have revolutionised technology on a global scale. So what would be a more juicy beef than between these two titans of industry? And in the UK of all places? But why? Well, Amazon made the first move by publicly declaring that their UK branch would stop issuing VISA credit cards due to the high costs. But would still accept debit cards. Amazon’s main complaints is that as time passes, Visa’s prices should be falling. A theoretical reason for this is that Visa should discover new technologies and or methods that will lower their costs of production, hence taking advantage of economies of scale. Economies of scale is the fall in average costs in the long run as a business expands to a larger size which Visa is capable of doing. With the lack of lower costs, Amazon reason that there should be a rise in quality from the supposed high prices which they claim to have not seen. It appears Amazon is thinking about the greater community, since it further points out that the higher prices can increase costs for businesses, leading to cost-push inflationary pressures on prices for consumers. Amazon was also considering dropping Visa’s American branch as a credit card partner.

China, Socialism and Deforestation | Communism, Mao, Great Leap Forward, Climate Change, Capitalism
Chairman Mao wanted China to catch up with the West through socialism in terms of industrial production which in hindsight was overly ambitious but instead led to deforestation. His plans involved collective management of forest resources. It included the following. 42% of Chinese forest areas were nationalised and forests owned by rich landlords were confiscated and distributed to farmers in equal shares. Private ownership was effectively no more and replaced by state ownership or collective ownership. But in 1958, all non-state forests were transferred to People’s Communes which were under the control of centralized governing bodies. These bodies were too large, leading to the mass deforestation that occurred during the Great Leap Forward. It didn’t help that prices were fixed by the government even though demand for timber was high. Thus, this excess demand couldn’t be reduced by prices which led to over-cutting, shortages and wastage. Logs were also under-priced, which solved many social objectives but at the cost of 1.1 billion cubic meters of forest products being supplied unsustainably which significantly China’s resources. Wastage was also rampant. Iron and steel were smelted and forests were cut down to fuel 600,000 furnaces and large deforestation, erosion and siltation were needed for hydropower projects. But an estimated 2967 dams built during 1958 to 1961 had collapsed by 1980 and 3 out of 11 million tonnes of steel produced were discarded as they were considered unfit for use. These actions had high carbon emissions yet had little economic returns due to the wastage, which increased carbon intensity greatly. This was because of the Great Leap Forward, the second of China’s Five-Year plans to improve China’s social and economic development. Climate change. Capitalism.

What is "Trickle-Down Economics"? | Response to CollegeHumor's "if Robin Hood met Republicans"
What is "Trickle-Down Economics"? Well we will find out here in a response to a CollegeHumor video with Robin Hood. There has been a lot of misinformation and strawmanning from the term trickle down economics and I am here to set things straight. A term that has often been used to criticize Republican President Ronald Reagan's economic policy of supply side economics in the 80's. The strawman was that the wealthy would spend leading to the wealth trickling down, hence the name through low taxes and deregulation. Conservatives, libertarians, liberals, Keynesians and leftists have been arguing what we should do about the economy whether through taxes, regulation, nationalisation, privatisation and other methods in politics. Trickle-down economics (political ideology) explained. Supply-side economics argues tax cuts and deregulation will help boost the economy.

Types of Monopolies
Monopolies. They Suck. Considering that they generally charge higher prices, have lower output and produces lower quality products as explained in my Monopoly video. But what are they? Well, monopolies control a huge amount of a market. This means there’s less competition from other firms, which increases their bargaining power over consumers, allowing them to raise prices and be uncompetitive. Monopoly power can also be used to increase barriers to entry for firms who are yet to enter the market. Natural monopolies occur when the most efficient number of firms in the industry is one. This is because the industries where these natural monopolies operate have high fixed costs.
