We catch a jack crevalle and I had several people tell me that smoked jack crevalle is actually pretty good eating. I have never done a smoked jack catch and cook so I thought might as well! As always, I had a great time fishing in Vero Beach with friends and my brother Alex. I get back home and fillet the small jack crevalle that we caught along with thawing some mahi I had from the florida keys. I put all this fish into the smoker. In addition to the smoked jack crevalle and smoked mahi I also throw in some beef brisket and sausages. So is smoked jack good? Well I have to admit that this catch n cook on how to smoke jack video turned more into a how NOT to smoke jack fishing video. I left too much brine on the fish and it made the smoked jack crevalle VERY salty. The jack crevalle was still edible thou, I end up turning all the smoked mahi into fish dip since it was too salty to eat by itself. The catch and cook is not totally ruined! The smoked fish dip actually turned out great! I will smoke some jack crevalle again and not make the same mistake! This is near the Fort Pierce Inlet here in Florida. We will be fishing off of Chris's boat at the florida inlet using live bait and jigs. For live bait when snook fishing we use mullet and mojarra. On the live bait rods all the snook we catch were on weighted hooks. It seems like the snook were hitting the deeper live baits. We catch snook on some jigs too. I try to make this video as best as possible when explaining how to catch snook by adding some additional text and showing all the lures and rigs we use to catch the snook. It seems like the snook bite was best during a more slack tide than when the tide was running hard. I know you guys want to see some more offshore fishing videos here in Florida but I had a good time on this inshore fishing trip snook fishing. It was a good time with some great friends. I am using squid and clam chunks as bait on my pompano rig. I prefer to use sand fleas but I didn't see any while beach fishing the first day. I have seen people make catch n cook videos with sand fleas, can you believe that?! I catch a lot of sail catfish while beach fishing for pompano. I just want a big pompano! No more catfish! I must have caught 16 catfish with my friend before calling it a day. I was even considering making a catfish catch and cook video but NO I will keep fishing until we get a pompano. Eventually I come back to the beach with my brother Alex and our friend Tyler. This time we take a sand flea and put it on the pompano rig. It doesn't take but 10 minutes to catch the first fish. It's a Jack! At least that is better than a catfish. Then we I least expect it my brother reels in a JUICY Florida pompano of the beautiful beach of Vero Beach. What a great day here on the South Florida Fishing Channel. I hope you learned something on how to catch pompano. Basically keep trying and try out different baits on your pompano rig, cast it out and wait. I fillet the pompano 'accidentally cutting myself' and then start the catch and cook part of this fishing episode. I cook the pompano with butter, oil pepper, salt and some whole garlic cloves. We go to Johns house and prepare to go fishing out of the Fort Pierce Inlet. He lives close to the Fort Pierce inlet so it's a very fast boat ride for us. How convenient! Before running offshore out of Fort Pierce we stop at a marina get fill up on boat fuel. I already had a catch clean and cook on my mind at this point. There's no way we weren't going to catch some fish out of the fort pierce inlet. The weather was much nicer than I expected. We only do bottom fishing out of Fort Pierce. No trolling. While bottom fishing offshore in about 68-80ft of water we catch snapper, trigger fish, kingfish, jack and even some mahi that came swimming by. It's great to see my older friends excited about my South Florida Fishing Channel and I can't wait to plan more fishing trips out of Vero Beach and Fort Pierce with them. Get ready for a lot more catch and cook and fort pierce fishing action. I should be back in south florida soon to fish that crystal clear blue water! In this catch n cook fishing episode I use corn meal to fry the fish. I really like using cornmeal to batter the fish in and then fry. Next time I will use peanut oil instead of canola oil to fry the fish in. This is the last bit of hog left over from the florida wild hog that I shot a few episodes ago. The quarters of the hog I smoked. The first part of this hunting episode I show some flashback shots from the previous florida hunting video that I edited. It's only a bit over a minute long. Then I jump straight into the goulash recipe. This was some of the best florida wild hog that I have ever prepared. The meat was very tender and flavorful. We take my buddys Chris's boat into the fort pierce inlet looking for snook and redfish. This fishing trip actually consists of 2 separate days. On the first day in fort pierce we catch some bluefish and instead of using those bluefish for a catch and cook we use them for jewfish bait. Yes you heard that right! We are using whole bluefish as bait for BIG goliath grouper. I have never caught a big grouper over 100 pounds before. The biggest was 80 pounds so when we hooked into the goliath grouper I was in for a ride! These fish here in south florida are huge! Jewfish can be found all over the world, but this was my first time catching a big one. Unfortunately you are not allowed to keep goliath grouper so they will be released and not used in a catch and cook episode. Imagine how big of a catch clean and cook that would be. We could feed a whole family with grouper on that catch n cook. After catching some big grouper we try to fish for other species using live mullet. We catch some snapper and snook. The snook were undersize so we released them unharmed. However, I caught a redfish that was 23". The perfect size for taking home to the pan. Looks like we are having a catch n cook after all! By about 3-4am the cooking part of this catch and cook starts and we fry up the redfish. The redfish tasted AMAZING. I don't know if it's because I was starving and tired but it was one of the best fried fish I ever had. I liked it much more than snook. In this episode I track the start of red tide in Vero Beach, Florida. (Oct. 15, 2018) until today (Oct. 23). The red tide seems not to be present in the Indian River or Fort Pierce area. So I walk to the beach at waldos driftwood resort and see that the red tide in Vero Beach. I always knew there was a abnormally high risk of red tide in Florida this year but I was really hoping it would have not showed up here on the treasure coast. I saw that south beach was closed. Closed beaches all along the treasure coast. I biked over to the riverside, the Indian River lagoon past my old elementary school beachland elementary school. The river has no dead fish. There is no red tide in the indian river. I go back to south beach that night with my friends and we look at all the dead fish and red tide at the beach. The next day my buddy Chris contacts me to go fishing on his boat in fort pierce. I asked him about red tide in fort pierce and he said there was none. So I drive to fort pierce and go fishing, we caught a great variety of healthy looking fish. Glad to know the ecosystem is still good in fort pierce. I hope sebastian inlet has no red tide either. I haven't gotten an update for my friends there yet. There are still dead fish washing up in Vero Beach Florida as of today (Oct. 23rd 2018). Hopefully this red tide goes away completly in 1-2 weeks. And not stay until 2019! If it doesn't i'll be doing an update video on the red tide in vero beach and Indian river county. Maybe i'll drive up to sebastian inlet and see how the water is there. A lot of people are wondering what is causing the red tide. It's important to find out how to prevent such things from happening so we don't see this red tide in florida in 2019. So technically I guess I can say I am bird hunting in the united kingdom. Or some people call it waterfowl hunting. And not just are we bird hunting or waterfowl hunting (i wonder which sounds more proper). We are also doing a catch and cook. So you will see how we catch n cook duck, pheasant and partridge. For the catch and cook part of this video it will only be a partridge recipe and a pheasant recipe. We didn't bring home any of the ducks in this catch and cook episode. It's also not a catch clean and cook. They cleaned the birds for us so I was not able to capture that on video. PS: they use hot wax to remove the feathers from all the game birds. This is my first time shooting a partridge and pheasant. I didn't have a chance to shoot a duck in Scotland, but that's ok! I have shot duck before. Maybe i'll make a duck catch and cook here in Florida soon. After all this is the South Florida Fishing Channel. Although we are hunting in scotland... maybe I should call this the South Florida Hunting Channel. Haha What I like about this bird catch and cook episode is that Kiri really takes the time to explain how to cook a bird. And in this case it's how to cook a game bird! Which is even more exciting. I never new that bird hunting. Especially the partridge hunting and pheasant hunting in scotland could be so much fun! I am excited to do some more bird hunting in Scotland soon again! This isn't my first trip to Scotland but it is my first time hunting in Scotland. In fact, it's my first time hunting in Europe. On this Scotland hunting trip we are hunting for stag. These are big buck deer with beautiful racks. There is the red stag and other various stags around Europe. We also encounter some roe deer on this hunting trip and make our way through a forest. When I landed in the united kingdom Kiri from Athina Sporting drove me an additional 8 hours to Scotland where we will be looking for deer meat for dinner. On this hunting trip we are primarily stalking deer. We are walking around, looking for patterns on where the deer are and then try to intercept them accordingly. We see a lot of hind, which is basically a female deer. Or a female stag. However, we are only hunting for big male buck stag. I hope you enjoyed this Scotland Stag hunting episode. I get my bow ready and already imagining the deer steaks or wild hog pulled pork sandwiches. Little did I know this was about to become an emotional rollercoaster hunting this public land in florida. This will be more than one florida hunting episode... This is going to become a full blown out emotional hunting movie! This catch and cook begins by driving out to some florida public land where it's deer opening season for bow hunting. We park at camp and head into the public land. Also known as WMA's (wildlife management areas). The first several days of hunting Lee comes out with me to show me around the florida public land. I always enjoy having Lee on the South Florida Fishing Channel. The first few days of hunting public land I didn't see any animals. Saw some raccoons and some fast rabbits that didn't present a shot while bow hunting. But little did I know that there was a wild sow out there getting fatter for me while I was busy bow hunting in this florida movie. Many times in the tree stand I thought about this catch clean cook and if I catch a wild how how will I smoke the wild hog. I already know how to smoke pork so it shouldn't be hard. But it pork the same as how to smoke a hog? I'm sure it is! I finally see some deer while bow hunting but miss my chance. However the florida public lands did not let me down! After 7 hard days of bow hunting and looking for deer, turkey, rabbit and wild hog I was finally blessed with a shot on a pack of wild hogs! It's time to fire up the smoker because we are going to make smoked hog! I finish this hunting movie with a catch clean and cook. I clean the wild hog and quarter the hog. It's a Wildlife management area which is basically public hunting land and a great place to hunt if you don't have a hunting lease or can afford to take a guided hunt on private land. But before hunting on a wildlife management area I head over to Deer Meat for Dinner Ranch and help around before sitting in his tree stand. I see some deer, but no hog. Luckily I have some footage from a few years ago bow hunting public land here in florida. This florida WMA took me 3 days of walking around hog hunting before I finally came face to face with the hog I was going to catch clean and cook. I bet that hog didn't think it would end up on a south florida fishing channel catch and cook episode. Hog shot by arrow is how it went down while bow hunting for hog on this florida WMA. Hunting public land in Florida sure is fun because it presents a pretty big challenge in my opinion because you can't bait the hogs. I had to stalk my first hog bow hunting for many many miles before even knowing this catch clean cook was actually going to happen. I know that some people say Florida hunting isn't as epic as up north, especially the florida wma hunting, but I think that hog hunting no matter where you are is a huge thrill. Just being outside in the fresh air on public land is reason enough to go bow hunting for hog. And it's even sweeter when the day ends with a hog catch and cook. I am using a Char Broil Smoker. This is a Charbroil electric smoker. So I show you how to use a charbroil electric smoker to smoke kingfish and make some smoke fish dip. Oh man it's so good! If I had to recommend a catch and cook this would be the one! I start this catch n cook video by making a brine for the kingfish. We will put the kingfish in the brine for 6-7 hours before smoking the fish. I make the brine 1 part sugar and 1 part salt. Once the kingfish has been in the brine for a few hours we let the fish rest for an hour to let it get to room temperature. In the mean time I am preheating the electric smoker. The charbroil electric smoker has a preheat function that you should use to get the wood chips smoking. I am using apple wood chips for this catch n cook. Once the charbroil electric smoker is smoking it's time to put the kingfish inside the electric smoker. This is how to use a electric smoker! We will smoke the kingfish for about 2 hours at 225 degrees. The internal temperature of the fish should reach 150F. After 2 hours it's time to remove the smoked kingfish from the charbroil smoker. Now it's time to make some smoked fish dip. So after smoking fish I will show you how to make fish dip. After I make the smoked kingfish fish dip I portion some of it out and take my bike and give the smoked fishdip to my neighbors! Kevin picked me up early in the morning and we head to Stan Blum Boat Ramp which is in Fort Pierce, Florida. At the boat ramp I can already smell a fishy catch and cook in the air. I grew up fishing with Kevin out of the Fort Pierce inlet so this is my element. There have been lots of fishing reports of cobia in the area so our goal was 100% to catch cobia and then of course cook cobia! We run offshore and it's already a little rough. We start by using a sabiki rig to catch bait. Don't worry this isn't a bait catch n cook. Then we move to do some bottom fishing at another location. Man do I love south Florida. Well I guess Fort Pierce is more of the treasure coast, but for my fishing channel sake let's call this South Florida. This is the South Florida Fishing Channel after all... We start bottom fishing offshore and quickly catch some kingfish. I was having a blast catching these kingfish and already excited to catch a kingfish. Little did I know I was going to get sea sick offshore. I haven't gotten seasick in over 10 years. But seasickness was going to find me today. Don't worry I don't get seasick until later in this fishing episode. Good think I shot it in 4k HD! heh We move bottom fishing spots again and finally get on the fish. We catch more kingfish and catch cobia. This cobia was a beast! After we catch the cobia I get sea sick but that doesn't stop me from fishing. I gaff another kingfish and pretty happy with this offshore trip. Time for the catch and cook the first ever in 4k HD! I will be saving the kingfish for the next episode. In this catch n cook I will cook cobia and boy did it turn out yummy. Overall, this was an awesome trip but I hope I never get sea sick offshore again! No snook or tarpon that I saw. The next morning I bring some more artificial lures to the beach and sure enough I see some glass minnow baits swimming around by the shore. I still don't see any snook or tarpon thou. I try driving up north to Sebastian to shore fish there. And this time I also have some paddlebaits. So this is 100% snook fishing with artificial lures. When I get to sebastian I see glass minnows everywhere. Birds are diving along the shore and I see tarpon and snook also hitting the glass minnow baits. I am using an artificial swimbait and jump a couple tarpon. The shore fishing is awesome! I also land a nice size snook, but it's not snook season yet so this snook is released. As the day of shore fishing snook fishing comes to an end we spot some baby sea turtles. The turtles were hatching! I record the beginning of a long journey for the little sea turtles. Leaving the beaches of florida to venture offshore and begin growing into big sea turtles. Out of tavernier creek we run and set off offshore trolling using small feathers. It was a slow fishing trip at first and then we run into some skipjack tuna. And then some small peanut mahi. I had my fingers crossed that I wasn't going to let down the first giveaway winner. I better find some more mahi or something. Another couple hours go by and we run into some small blackfin tuna. We catch 2 blackfin tuna and then decided to run back to the reef. Done with offshore trolling we begin our hunt for some snapper. We also find lobster and swim around to do some spearfishing. The first spot we put the hooka rig into the water is a little grassy ledge where I have seen lobster in the past. And yes we catch some lobster. Less than 10 minutes underwater and this catch and cook is already underway. I hope you are ready for a catch clean cook because it's official! We then move spots to find more lobster using the hooka rig, oh I can't wait to show how to boil lobster and how easy it is to boil lobster. I also spot a mutton snapper and mangrove snapper. We decide to call it a day early and stop looking for lobster and spearfishing since we have enough for this catch and cook. The first thing we do when we get to the Bahamas is check into customs. I already see conch everywhere and start to get hungry for this catch clean cook that I know is coming out way. Our first stop in Staniel Cay is the thunderball grotto. This tunderball Grotto has a hole at the top we jumped through and it was a ton of fun! After that we hit a sandbar and swim with sharks. Don't worry they were just friendly nurse sharks! So no danger to swim with the sharks, well.. I guess they could still suck your finger! Then we head back to Staniel Cay for lunch, but it's not the catch and cook yet. Almost! After the almost catch n cook we head to pig island to swim with the pigs. Originally we were supposed to go to the Deer Meat For Dinner ranch but ended up just fishing out of the Jupiter Inlet all day. And ended the day with a nice catch n cook. We start by fishing the Jupiter Inlet for snook. The boats were stacked up and we couldn't produce a bite on live bait bottom fishing. No worries! We run offshore fishing in search of another bottom fishing spot further offshore. We use live bait again and hook into some big nurse sharks. We wanted to catch a snapper but just kept catching those big nurse sharks. We 100% had some decent snapper on, but it seems like the nurse shark got the better of us while bottom fishing. We head back to the Jupiter Inlet for another shot at snook and turning this fishing episode into a catch and cook. We will not fail! At the Jupiter Inlet Chris hooks into a nice Cubera Snapper and saves the day! Now this Cubera Snapper will have a chance to be on a South Florida Fishing Channel catch n cook episode! Email me: Heiko@southfloridafishingchannel.com **** In this video: We start by fixing a few things on chris's boat to get it ready for the 2018 lobster mini season here in fort pierce florida. Normally I would be in Key Largo but I just so happened to be here for mini season and I have to deal with that. There is a lot of drama in the catch and cook. The drama happens way before the catch clean cook due to issues with the boat, issues with the hooka rig which I really wanted to get working since it would be my first time using a third lung. On the opening day of the 2018 mini season we run out of fort pierce inlet in search of the florida spiny lobster. I was so hungry just thinking about all those florida lobster just wanting to get soaked in butter. But we can't get the hooka rig to work. With the third lung out of commission we decide to just freedive for the lobster instead. We are freediving for hours on hours looking under every freaking rock and don't find anything except one short spiny lobster. Grrr so we go home, get some work done and work on fixing the hooka rig so we can make this catch and cook work! The next day we run north out of fort pierce inlet all the way to vero beach. I grew up in vero beach and know some spots where I have seen lobster but the visibility was so bad we went back to the inlet and here we finally are successful diving for lobster on the hooka rig.
